For the past decade, French online phenomenon My Little Paris has divulged the city’s best-kept secrets in fashion, food, housewares, and lifestyle to almost four million subscribers. Now, this creative young team takes us inside their personal homes and workplaces, sharing Paris’s freshest interior inspiration.

The view from an 11th arrondissement apartment reveals slate rooftops and open sky, while a pair of silver Margiela designer boots, plush orange bomber jacket, and hot pink visor pepper the furniture, in fashion-showroom style. The My Little Paris workspace in an old carousel factory in Montmartre has a “dream room” vegetal wall, and rooftop terrace overlooking the Sacré-Coeur. In a relaxed apartment on the edge of the Canal Saint-Martin, an aquamarine wall complements a matching Smeg fridge and coffee mugs, all in the same vibrant, yet soft hue. Bird cages, vinyl records, colourful kimonos, vintage photographs, flashy African wax cushions, and contemporary art all coexist harmoniously.

More than forty spaces ― each brimming with Parisian life ― provide Instagram-ready inspiration for interior decoration, and are rich with ideas for sparking creativity.

Fyodor Savintsev
ID: 17480
Издательство: Fuel

A ‘dacha’ is a country cottage, made of wood, used by Soviet citizens to escape the rigors of the city for rural idyll. Widespread in the countries of the former USSR, this important cultural and architectural form has been largely ignored academically. In Dacha, Fyodor Savintsev documents this particularly Russian phenomenon, his photographs constitute a unique record of a rapidly vanishing fairytale wooden world.

The word ‘dacha’ has been used to describe constructions ranging from grand imperial villas to small sheds. Originally bestowed by the Tsar to reward courtiers, this custom continued following the revolution, with Soviet cooperatives building dachas for their members. Supposedly for the benefit of labourers, in reality they were destined for those favoured by the State, including famous writers, architects and artists – from Pasternak to Prokofiev. The fall of the Soviet Union accelerated their use, as economic uncertainty forced city dwellers towards self-sufficiency. The dacha tradition has survived Revolution, war and the collapse of Communism, becoming an integral part of life in the process.

With an introductory essay, illustrated with archive images by Anna Benn.

A collection of nine contemporary houses designed by one of the most influential and exciting architects of his generation

David Adjaye’s award-winning buildings and urban schemes have met with critical and popular acclaim around the world. Born in Tanzania to Ghanaian parents, David Adjaye enjoyed a wide-ranging education and opened his first office in London in 1994, making his name with a series of innovative houses for artists and creatives.

After twenty years of practice, houses now represent a smaller portion of Adjaye’s work but continue to play a significant role in his output and development as an architect. Here, nine outstanding examples in diverse settings on four continents – from a Victorian suburb in London, to the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a country park outside Nanjing, and a coastal landscape in Ghana – are presented in vivid detail. Each project engages sensitively with its location, pushes the boundaries of spatial invention and challenges received concepts of domestic space in the twenty-first century.

Adjaye’s artistry, his graceful compositions and unexpected materials, are explored in richly detailed photographs and drawings, which celebrate an architect at the height of his creative powers.

Ashley Hicks
ID: 6332
Издательство: Rizzoli

Back in print for the first time in years, this classic of interior-design history showcases the masterful work of David Hicks (1929–1998), who is acknowledged as one of the most important designers of the late twentieth century, in the company of Billy Baldwin and Albert Hadley.

Known for his bold use of color, eclecticism, and geometric designs in carpets and textiles, Hicks turned English decorating on its head in the 1950s and ’60s. His trademark use of electrifying color combinations, and mixing antiques, modern furniture, and abstract paintings became the “in style” for the chic of the day, including Vidal Sassoon and Helena Rubinstein. By the 1970s, David Hicks was a brand; his company was making wallpaper, fabrics, and linens and had outposts in eight countries, including the United States where he worked with the young Mark Hampton, and where his wallpaper was used in the White House. “My greatest contribution as an interior designer has been to show people how to use bold color mixtures, how to use patterned carpets, how to light rooms, and how to mix old with new,” he stated in his 1968 work, David Hicks on Living — With Taste, the last authoritative book on his work. Written by his son, Ashley Hicks, with unprecedented access to Hicks’s archives, personal photographs, journals, and scrapbooks, this book is a vibrantly illustrated celebration of a half century of stunning interiors.

About the Author:

Ashley Hicks is a British author, architect, interior and furniture designer, and photographer. He is the son of Lady Pamela Hicks and the legendary decorator David Hicks.

ID: 17206
Издательство: Rizzoli

One of today’s most celebrated and influential design firms creates eclectic, inspired, and quietly virtuosic interiors across the style spectrum — from bohemian glamour to country charm, sophisticated modern, and historically informed — for clients as individual in taste as Anna Wintour and Jessica Chastain.

Here the Carriers showcase homes that express their clients’ personalities and dreams, through the practical filters of lifestyle and place—and reveal the design principles behind them. Their range spans a historic, art-filled New York duplex, replete with period vestiges, to an updated Mediterranean-style Southern California house with an art deco–era core, and a refreshed Connecticut lakeside retreat with glass expanses that capture the views. Discrete touches throughout lift the overall effect. For example, a cashmere-covered sofa transforms a library into a space not only for reading but also for contemplation while vibrant, orange leather lining turns kitchen cabinets from a necessity into an incredible luxury. This stunning book will appeal to design fans interested in chic, livable spaces.

James Burke, Molly Mandell

Издательство: Abrams

Desert by Design celebrates the interior worlds that exist in Earth’s most arid climes and, more importantly, the creative minds who inhabit them

It is an ode to these landscapes — their sounds, smells, flora, and fauna — filled with equal parts mystery and beauty and a glimpse into the projects and lives of those who have chosen to call them home. Deserts are known to be sensitive ecosystems where adaptability and resilience become common currency, requiring humans to live within the environment rather than apart from it. The result is a people who are inspired by challenge and who constantly create and innovate, a notion that set in for Marfa, Texas-based desert dwellers Molly Mandell and James Burke as they took off on a quest to identify thirty incredible spaces across the globe. By area, deserts make up a third of the planet’s landmass, so Mandell and Burke had a lot of ground to cover. They made their way through the southwestern United States, down to Mexico and Argentina, and across the pond to Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, and the Canary Islands. They traveled to Rajasthan, India, and to a micro-desert in New Zealand. They visited high desert and low desert, urban desert and rural desert, sandy desert and scrubby desert. They photographed everything from iconic properties inhabited by Yves Saint Laurent, César Manrique, and Donald Judd to thoughtfully curated, centuries-old adobe structures and modern, groundbreaking ones, all the while interviewing the choreographers, hoteliers, sculptors, environmentalists, chefs, audio engineers, and preservationists who bring them to life.

Desert by Design — its genuine, beautiful, and unexpected approach—is decidedly not your average interiors book. From tips for cultivating the intimate and unpretentious environment that is synonymous with the desert to images that evoke mindful living, it is both an homage to this unique and dynamic climate — its most extraordinary places and memorable personalities — and a manual for adopting elements of this lifestyle, no matter our location. Yes, this publication is for desert people, those who reside in it or who simply resonate with it. But it likewise exists for all of us who are seeking authentic design inspiration or courage to take the path less traveled, regardless of where we hang our hats.

About the Authors:

Molly Mandell and James Burke are arts and culture writers, photographers, and producers. Their work has appeared in the likes of Kinfolk, where Mandell was formerly an editor, Wallpaper*MonocleVogue Mexico, and the Los Angeles Times. In 2018, Mandell and Burke authored their first book, Made in Cuba, and served as the editor and art director and the copy editor, respectively, for Nathan Williams’s The Eye. More recently, they have comprised the editorial team for the platform Creative Voyage and acted as creative directors for burgeoning hospitality concepts around the globe. When not on the road, the duo resides in the artistic enclave of Marfa, Texas, where they are actively developing a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary residency program based in the Chihuahuan Desert and the land where Mexico and the United States meet.
