Warren T. Byrd, Jr., Thomas L. Woltz, Stephen Orr, Elzabeth Meyer
ID: 10171
Издательство: Princeton Architectural Press

Award-winning landscape architecture firm Nelson Byrd Woltz is celebrated for projects that, in addition to their sheer beauty, frequently trigger a cascade of positive ecological benefits: depleted landscapes brought back to life by reintroducing native plant species; the resurgence of local animals; and the restoration of damaged ecosystems made possible through unconventional, cross-disciplinary collaborations with scientists, sociologists, artists, biologists, and others who share their dedication to the stewardship of the land. Nelson Byrd Woltz presents twelve examples of the firm s innovative brand of sustainable design.

Divided into four sections, Garden, Community, Park, and Farm, projects range in scope from residential gardens to a large-scale sheep and cattle station along the coast of New Zealand. They include the recently opened Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA; the Asia Trail at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.; the restoration of the Dell at the University of Virginia; Citygarden in St. Louis, MO; private gardens in New York and Connecticut; and the Medlock Ames vineyards in Sonoma, CA. Each project includes a watercolour plan and a materials and plants list. These unforgettable landscapes are both an open invitation to gather together and a much-needed contribution to the health of our cities, farms, and wildlands.

Ingrid Weir

Издательство: Hardie Grant Books

How do you design your life? New Rural: Where to Find It and How to Create It is an interiors book for a new way of living that combines the space and freedom of rural existence with the connections and opportunities of the modern world.

This stunning photo-filled hardback is a guide for those dreaming of moving to the country; inspiration for anyone who craves touches of rural magic and cottage care in their home – wherever that may be; and a window to the distinctive allure of Australia’s vibrant regional towns.

Authored and photographed by interior designer Ingrid Weir, this creative book is much more than a manual or a compilation of pretty interiors. New Rural profiles towns that embody the earthiness and romance of authentic and original rural living (the Hawkesbury Highlands, the Sapphire Coast, Coober Pedy, Kyneton and Satellite Island to name a few), offers guidance on how to find and create it yourself, and detours to subjects such as bringing the outside in, having friends to stay, mixing the old with the new, the importance of texture, and why food eaten outside tastes better.

This is a book about place and space, meaning and connection. It exists at a unique intersection, bringing together Ingrid’s expertise from film and television, interior design and her personal project renovating the old schoolmaster’s house in the gold-rush town of Hill End, New South Wales.

Get lost between these pages and wander through new ways of living.

About the Author:

Ingrid Weir has designed interiors in Mexico, Los Angeles and Sydney for clients including The Macquarie Group, The Sydney Opera House, National Parks and Wildlife, Charter Hall, The Film School and The National Art School.

Trained at Sydney University, she holds a Bachelors in Architecture. With a background in set and costume design, she has worked extensively in film, television and theatre in Australia. As the daughter of film director Peter Weir and production and costume designer Wendy Stites, she grew up in the industry.

Ingrid studied photography at CCAC in San Francisco and The Australian Centre for Photography. She photographed the 2015 Bringing Australians Home campaign for Qantas, which also involved flying around the country and holding photography workshops in capital cities on behalf of the airline.

For the past decade she has owned a country escape in the old gold-rush village/artists colony of Hill End in New South Wales' central west. She divides her time between there and Sydney.

New Town House brings together a collection of some of the more interesting and creative town house projects which have been recently constructed. The focus on recently completed projects allows for an analysis of the challenges of integrating new buildings in existing residential areas.

All of the featured projects share one main characteristic their ability to make the most out of limited spaces in creative ways. Within the basic typology of a flat building between parallel walls, a world of possibilities is opened up: spaces full of light, endless staircases, curtain walls, facades which spread completely out to the street or enclose mysterious gardens and interior patios.

Introduction by Eric P. Nash, Photographs by Andrew Garn
ID: 16103
Издательство: Rizzoli

The definitive book on New York Deco, from the smallest of details to the grandest of buildings.

New York City, arguably the world’s Art Deco capital, is well known for its striking and still iconic towers that were early expressions of the style writ large—most famously the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, both of which still speak so eloquently of the future and the machine age that continues to move us all forward. Art Deco is drawn in steel, in tile, in brass, in bronze, and in stone upon great buildings and small—and in the details, as so engagingly shown here. The reader is brought, for example, into the extraordinary Fred F. French Building at 551 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, a treasure house of the form whose ornate lobby is a wonder of sparkling seduction in all directions: racing above is a fan palm and fleur de lis–decorated architrave, and golden Assyrian equestrian archers on a field of onyx take aim while stunning chandeliers set with crystal feathers and bronze shoot out their own thin arrows of illumination. Beyond the famous, we are invited to consider little-seen stunners beside the Grand Concourse in the Bronx or upon the face of an apartment house in Brooklyn Heights. Featuring both the legendary and the little known, on display here, through all-new photography, is Art Deco New York as never seen before.

About the Author:

Andrew Garn is a Fulbright-winning photographer and author of New York by Neighborhood. Eric P. Nash is the author of SoHo New York and was a researcher for the New York Times for twenty-five years, where he wrote more than 100 articles.
