Jinny Blom
ID: 18548
Издательство: Frances Lincoln

‘The most romantic, creative person in garden design I know.’ Piet Oudolf

Prolific designer Jinny Blom embraces a wide variety of styles, from large garden spaces to formal walled gardensand contemporary installations. What defines her work is her skill with plants and her ability to create a garden that responds to the history of the site and the wider landscape. The gardens Jinny creates are as different as their owners and their locations.

In this book, Jinny shares her insight into the creative process she has developed while designing more than 250 gardens around the world. The Thoughtful Gardener contains modern takes on traditional forms, and is split into six sections: seeing, understanding, structuring, harmonising, rooting, and liberating.

All of Jinny's gardens share a commitment to beautiful craftsmanship and considered planting. Structure and detail are important, and receive close attention. The styles vary considerably – logical, calm, beautiful, romantic, naturalistic, formal, sometimes spare – but the principles remain firm. Jinny designs for the long term, with consideration for the environment; these gardens are built to last.

Reflecting Jinny‘s highly individual character, there is plenty of wit and quirkiness alongside the expert knowledge, and it will appeal to the widest audience of garden lovers. Thoughtful and beautiful, yet practical and informative, this book marries artistry with functionality.

Go low-maintenance and no-mow while supporting nature and biodiversity by planting a mini wildflower meadow with guidance from Tiny & Wild.

The word “meadow” might conjure an image of a broad, expansive prairie covering acres of land, but it doesn’t have to. Meadows don’t have to be big to make a difference in the health of the planet. If you choose the right plants, even a small corner of the yard will do. In Tiny & Wild, you’ll learn how to embrace your wild side and create a low-maintenance miniature wildflower meadow that’s teeming with life.

The perks of creating a wild planting, even on a small scale, are many. Tiny but mighty meadows help mitigate climate change, foster biodiversity, sequester carbon, and calm the senses. With as little as a few square feet of space, you can create a beautiful, naturalistic planting that supports a diversity of plants, pollinators, and a plethora of other living things, not to mention its visual appeal to human eyes. Author and landscape designer Graham Laird Gardner helps you find inspiration in natural spaces so you can successfully site, design, plant, and care for your own small-scale meadow.

Whether you live in the city or in suburbia, perfect places for a mini meadow are everywhere:

- A small corner of the yard
- The pocket-sized area between the house and driveway
- Along a property line
- Flanking the front walk
- Around your mailbox
- Tucked next to the front stoop
- At the center of the vegetable garden
- In a raised bed
- Containers, deck boxes, and patio pots
- In the sliver of land between the sidewalk and the street

The plant lists and charts in Tiny & Wild share the best plants to include in your micro prairie, and Graham offers plenty of practical advice on planting your meadow from seed, transplants, or mature plants, depending on your budget, the site, and your timeline. Plus, learn how to care for your wildflower planting, including tips for watering, plant care, and weed management.

Discover how small spaces can make a big difference in Tiny & Wild.

With the progress of urbanisation worldwide, the conflict between architecture and green areas in the urban context is becoming increasingly pressing. The concept of integrated landscape arises as an important approach to increase green areas while not occupying valuable inner city lands, and thus finds its way in more and more cities around the world.

The book focuses on the theme of integrated landscape, addressing its two main categories respectively: green walls and rooftop gardens. Thirty-nine cutting-edge projects are selected to present the latest trends in landscape design. Graham Cleary, executive of Green Roofs Australasia and an accredited green roof professional, is invited to be chief editor of the book, in which integrated landscape design is discussed in detail, while technical key issues such as plant selection, irrigation systems and maintenance are involved.

About the Author
Graham Cleary founded Natural Habitats in 1978 in Auckland as a fledgling design build company under the mentorship of the city’s then only Landscape Architect.

Graham has worked on and led many outstanding landscape projects in the South Pacific, including resorts, golf courses, commercial projects and exquisite private estates & homes. Under his leadership, Natural Habitats has grown to be the leading provider of integrated landscape management within Australasia. Graham demonstrates coherent leadership of multi-disciplinary teams in order to achieve the innovative, high-quality outcomes that Natural Habitats is renowned for.

Graham is also at the forefront of thinking on the use of natural systems to mitigate urban development issues. He played an essential role in Natural Habitats pioneering green roofs and wall technology within New Zealand.

Graham has served as consultant and advisor to numerous landscape design and environmental groups. He is a founding member of Landscaping New Zealand, an accredited Green Roof Professional, an executive of Green Roofs Australasia, an associate of KEA, part of the Great Barrier Trust, a member of Forest & Bird and of the Native Forest Restoration Trust.

Text by Lucia Impelluso, Photographs by Dario Fusaro
ID: 16605
Издательство: Rizzoli

A stunning collection of photographs celebrating the excellence of the Italian Renaissance period through palaces and gardens built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

The book illustrates nine locations of extraordinary artistic and architectural interest, conceived by prominent Italian families and dynasties as urban villas or country houses centered around the pursuit of entertainment and leisure. These lavishly decorated and frescoed palaces are adorned with handcrafted furniture and works of art and surrounded by gardens that retain their original layout to this day -- a very rare feature.

An historical text introduces each property, giving an overview of its origins. The villas have been specially photographed for this book by Dario Fusaro, with views of both the palace interiors and their grounds, as well as the gardens, glimpses of the halls, details of the furnishings, and a focus on the frescoes, where still preserved. Explanatory text offers insights on the most interesting frescoes, such as those of Veronese at Villa Barbaro. For the first time, Fusaro also employs a drone with the purpose of capturing the architectural structure and elements of each Italian Renaissance garden, from above and as a whole.

This all-access volume is essential for fans and readers interested in Italian art, for those who love to travel through Italy in search of places of artistic interest, and for those seeking out green tourist destinations.

About the Authors:

Lucia Impelluso is an historian of architecture and an expert in the study of historical gardens. Her publications on gardens have been translated into multiple languages and awarded important prizes both in Italy and France. Dario Fusaro is one of the most important photographers of gardens in Italy.

Herbert Dreiseitl, Dieter Grau

Working with urban water presents one of the most fundamental and rewarding challenges in our cities today.

After realizing Asia is heavily in need of flood protection and improvement of water quality and urban quality, we feel delighted to present our ideas for those issues in this book. After the three editions of Waterscapes, we made a conscious decision to publish our most current work now in an English/Chinese bilingual version for Asia.

As the urbanisation process has reached an enormous speed, the consideration of clean water, blue sky and quality of life for people in dense cities has reached utmost importance. This has to be seen also in the light of harsh competition between cities and their abilities to attract investment and talent.

About the Author

Herbert Dreiseitl, born in 1955, is a sculptor, water artist and landscape architect. After his studies, he founded Atelier Dreiseitl in Überlingen on Lake Constance in 1980. He has realized numerous projects in the fields of stormwater management, water art and landscape architecture. He is active in lecturing worldwide and his work is widely published. He is guest professor at NUS Singapore and director at Ramboll LCL.
