Rachel Siegfried

Издательство: Filbert Press

Growing flowers for cutting brings the pleasures of the season indoors and cuts out the air miles associated with many shop-bought blooms. This book turns the spotlight on the best perennials and woody plants which return year after year with little effort or waste, offer valuable habitats to garden wildlife and bring a natural quality to arrangements.

Rachel Siegfried, owner of Green & Gorgeous flower farm, began her career as an estate gardener and in this book she shares her selection of 128 rigorously trialled plants and her garden-led philosophy that together bring such exceptional results. Cut flower classics such as peonies and dahlias rub shoulders with daisies, climbers, grasses and fruit blossom. Her exquisite arrangements capture the essence each plant making the most of characterful stem twists and branching tendrils – testament to years of expert botanical observation and hands in the soil.

Beautiful photographs, many by Eva Nemeth, capture the seasonal diversity and natural ease that are such a hallmark of this thoroughly contemporary approach to cut flowers. Whether your goal is to have something to pick from your garden each week of the year or start a cut flower business, the inspiration to get started and expert advice you need is here.

About the Author:

Rachel Siegfried has worked in horticulture for 25 years and has experience in design, landscaping , nursery work and productive horticulture. In 2008 she founded Green and Gorgeous, a flower farm and floral design studio in Oxfordshire. Here, she and her partner Ashley Pearson grow hundreds of varieties, carefully selected for their cut flower credentials, on four acres of land. The flowers they produce are sold directly to the public through their farm shop, used for wedding work and as teaching material in their popular workshops. Rachel’s gardening background brings a unique perspective which puts seasonality and sustainability front and centre of her work.

Arthur Parkinson
ID: 16866
Издательство: Kyle Books

Arthur Parkinson's town garden is like a path of pots, a tiny, exposed stage on bricks. Despite its small size, a flower-filled jungle in Venetian tones is grown here each year, in defiance of urbanisation. The plants act like drapes, closing gently as their growth engulfs the front door, from either side of the path, to the buzz of precious bees.

This is gardening done entirely in pots, yet on a grand scale that will inspire anyone who wants their doorstep or patio to be a glamorous and lively canvas that nurtures them visually and mentally. From jewel scatterings of crocus, flocks of parrot tulips and scented sweet peas to galaxies of single dahlias, towering giraffes of amaryllises grown inside for winter and endless vases of cut blooms through the seasons.

With his bantam hens at his feet, Arthur shares his life, knowledge, flair and influences for planting creatively, all of which combine to create a space that's rich in ever-changing colour and life.

‘The Flower Yard is simply gorgeous. Inspirational, sumptuous and packed with refreshingly down-to-earth advice. I love this book.’ Nigel Slater

Издательство: Marsilio Arte

Concealed, protected and hidden: these are the gardens of Venice, protagonists of the illustrated volume published by Marsilio Arte and edited by Toto Bergamo Rossi, director of the Venetian Heritage association with Marco Bay, landscape architect. The texts signed by the two authors of the book, accompanied by the evocative shots of Marco Valmarana, guide the reader to the discovery of these green gems, privileged places where nature, art and history are intertwined.

The spring flowering, the summer opulence, the colors of autumn, the fog and the winter frost are captured in a new way in a series of photos full of details and emotions, which reveal the secret Venetian green through the seasons.

John Burns

A gardener with a secret oasis on a Parisian rooftop. An artist making faux flowers to brighten Manhattan apartments. A family of ranchers rewilding the American outback.

Anchored around the idea of nature as nourishment, The Kinfolk Garden explores lush gardens and plant-filled homes around the world and introduces the inspiring people who coax them into bloom. Through visits to friends old and new, the Kinfolk team learns the secrets to a good garden, and what good a garden can do for our self-care, creativity and communities.

David L. Culp
ID: 16792
Издательство: Timber Press

Brandywine Cottage is David Culp’s beloved two-acre Pennsylvania garden where he mastered the design technique of layering — interplanting many different species in the same area so that as one plant passes its peak, another takes over. The result is a nonstop parade of color that begins with a tapestry of heirloom daffodils and hellebores in spring and ends with a jewel-like blend of Asian wildflowers at the onset of winter.

The Layered Garden shows you how to recreate Culp’s majestic display. It starts with a basic lesson in layering — how to choose the correct plants by understanding how they grow and change throughout the seasons, how to design a layered garden, and how to maintain it. To illustrate how layering works, Culp takes you on a personal tour through each part of his celebrated garden: the woodland garden, the perennial border, the kitchen garden, the shrubbery, and the walled garden. The book culminates with a chapter dedicated to signature plants for all four seasons.

“Gardenmaking, in its finest form, is a celebration of life and of love. David and his book epitomize this.” —Lauren Springer Ogden

The definitive overview of the most iconic and influential Japanese gardens of the 20th century and beyond

A major survey and the first book of its kind, The Modern Japanese Garden is set to become the definitive book on the subject. Featuring gardens from Tokyo, Kyoto and Fujisawa to Osaka, Okayama, Fukuoka and beyond, this impressive overview includes major analysis of key works of interest through detailed garden profiles; insights into some of the most renowned Japanese garden designers across history; and a thoughtful exploration of the essential themes and developments in Japanese garden design.

Roughly divided between pre- and post-1945 Japanese garden design, the book examines post-war shifts in attitudes towards the contemporary garden as they moved from status symbols and expressions of influence to spaces of healing and mediation. A short history of the Japanese garden, from pre-Shinto stone arrangements to the last years of the 19th century, sits alongside analysis of the contemporary gardens of Japan’s corporate buildings, museums, hotels and public spaces. Garden profiles – offering a comprehensive overview of the most iconic and influential gardens in Japan – include a mix of landscape- and smaller-scale gardens, including many recently completed examples.

Interspersed throughout are short interludes, covering everything from the ancient garden of Ryoan-ji in Kyoto to the aesthetic lexicon of Japanese garden design, while essays from a number of high-profile contributors – Kengo Kuma, Mira Locher, Tim Richardson and Masuno Shunmyo – meditate on particular themes.
