The nude has always particularly captivated artists and viewers, with the depiction of the human body a classic exercise in all forms of fine art. This fascination in no way waned with the arrival of a new art form – photography. In fact, it has undoubtedly contributed both to the exploration of human anatomy and morphology as well as to the collective erotic imagination. Taken from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, a selection of more than 300 photographs guides the reader through countless variations in the depiction of the nude, each with their own aesthetic, political, social, artistic and formal implications, through the works of major photographers. The volume concludes with an index of artists and biographies of the main photographers.

Larry Fink

Издательство: Schirmer/Mosel Verlag

Vanity Fair parties have become a legend of their own. Larry Fink, famous for a keen, uniquely sensual documentary eye, has been the official photographer of these events. His look is clear and honestly searing; his flashlight is married to the instant in devilishly expressive ways. He shows the main celebrities of the glamorous movie world anxiously at leisure.

VICE’s irreverence and determination not to kowtow to advertisers has led to an aesthetic that began simply as unique but has grown into a culture that has defined an entire epoch of underground photography. Whether it’s ex-cons showing how to make a shiv-proof vest out of National Geographics or the homeless garbage eaters in Bangladesh posing for a hipster fashion shoot, VICE is never satisfied with simply presenting a well-composed photograph. There’s always a story and that is precisely why VICE photography is as respected as it is imitated.

The book will be divided into five parts. "Vice Photographers" will juxtapose the work of established names (see above) against up-and-comers like Jamie Warren, Jerry Hsu and Patrick O’Dell. After interviews with and portfolios from seven of each group, we’ll turn to "Vice’s Photojournalism" highlights. These images will be culled both from the magazine’s editorial content over the years and from the photo issues VICE has put out annually since April 2001. The third section will be "Vice Fashion," which includes shoots like "Anna Wintour, You’re Wrong" wherein VICE featured overweight women in seductive poses, or the "Sex Issue’s" fashion shoot that had every well-dressed model fornicating with the next. The final two sections are a collage of previously published VICE favorites and new stuff discovered since the last photo issue.

The result is an eye-popping anthology that beautifully illustrates the best of recent alternative photography from around the world.

The vivid voices that speak from these pages are not those of historians or scholars. They are the voices of ordinary men and women who experienced - and helped to win - the most devastating war in history, in which between 50 and 60 million lives were lost.

Focusing on the citizens of four towns - Luverne, Minnesota; Sacramento, California; Waterbury, Connecticut; Mobile, Alabama; - The War follows more than forty people from 1941 to 1945. Woven largely from their memories, the compelling, unflinching narrative unfolds month by bloody month, with the outcome always in doubt. All the iconic events are here, from Pearl Harbor to the liberation of the concentration camps - but we also move among prisoners of war and Japanese American internees, defense workers and schoolchildren, and families who struggled simply to stay together while their men were shipped off to Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa.

Enriched by maps and hundreds of photographs, including many never published before, this is an intimate, profoundly affecting chronicle of the war that shaped our world.

The world of watches is in transition; so-called smart watches are playing a larger role. However, classic timepieces with mechanical movement will not disappear from people’s wrists, because the ticking of a mechanical watch has been and will continue to be the heartbeat of human culture. After the success of The Watch Book in 2015, the new follow-up volume, just as beautifully done, is a must-have. Informative text and many pictures highlight 22 additional watch brands and show their unique features and quirks. However, this book includes a much broader spectrum of timepieces than the previous volume: along with many watches that fall into the “affordable luxury” segment, there are timepieces from the chronometric crème de la crème. Along with long-standing traditional brands, the book profiles newer ones whose unusual designs and exclusive technical developments have contributed to the history of the watch.

This volume also includes a helpful glossary of important terms, making The Watch Book II an absolute must for both timepiece experts and collectors and those new to the world of watch artistry.

 - Renowned watch expert and historian Gisbert L. Brunner shares his expansive knowledge with us once more
 - This volume picks up where the previous one left off
 - A can’t-miss gift for watch collectors and connoisseurs

A series of panoramic photographs were taken of an alpine view from the balcony of a mountain lodge called the Rechenau, near Kiefersfelden in Bavaria. Maryam and Rolf Sachs focused their camera on two majestic mountain peaks, ‘Der Zahme Kaiser’ (The Tame Emperor) on the left and ‘Der Wilde Kaiser’ (The Wild Emperor) on the right, that lie over the German border in Austria. The discipline for the project was rigorous, throughout 2004 the camera, which was housed in a purpose built shelter shot over 50,000 photographs, each taken every 10 and half minutes. The pictures succeed in capturing nature’s ever changing moods.

Rolf Sachs studied business management and is a renowned London-based furniture and object designer. Maryam Sachs who holds a Masters in International Affairs, has published anthologies such as ‘Der Mond’ (the moon) and ‘Der Kuss (the kiss).

Horst, Edward Steichen, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, François Halard, Helmut Newton, Stephen Meisel, Snowdon, Toni Frissell, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, and Annie Leibovitz. Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel is an icon of fashion, and can lay claim to having invented the look of the 20th century.

At the height of the Belle Époque, she stripped women of their corsets and feathers, bobbed their hair, put them in bathing suits and sent them out to get tanned in the sun. She introduced the little black dress; trousers for women; costume jewelry; the exquisitely comfortable suit that became her trademark. Early in the Roaring Twenties, Chanel made the first ever couture perfume – No. 5 – presenting it in the famous little square-cut flagon that, inspired by Picasso and Cubism, became the arch symbol of the Art Deco style. No. 5 remains the most popular scent ever created. Chanel knew instinctively that the road to success lay in being absolutely at one with her own time. And what a time! The era of Picasso, Diaghilev, Stravinsky, Cocteau, Jean Renoir,Visconti – all of whom ‘Coco’ knew and collaborated with, even as she matched their modernist innovations by liberating women from the prison of 19th-century fashion and creating a whole new concept of elegance. Chanel went everywhere and knew everyone and, as this sumptuously illustrated volume clearly shows, her life and accomplishment – even her chronic failure in love – constitute one of the great stories of the modern age.

Her life is eminently suited to the lavish visual treatment of this handsome volume, which features more than 600 illustrations from an extraordinary collection amassed over the years by Edmonde Charles-Roux, Chanel’s official biographer and close friend. An authoritative and practised writer, Charles-Roux has used careful research and vivid eyewitness accounts to set the pictures in their context of time and place. She makes Chanel live again!

Limited and numbered XXL photo book in a large format

Michael Poliza is more than a seasoned globetrotter who has travelled through almost 170 countries. He is also a collector of the world, always on the lookout for breathtaking landscapes, remote regions, and intact nature reserves. With his camera ever on hand, Poliza does not only want to experience the beauty of the planet, but also to make it accessible to all.

In his two great books, Africa and Eyes over Africa, as well as his single volumes on South Africa, Kenya, and Namibia, Poliza opened our eyes to the diversity of the African continent. In AntArctic, the WWF ambassador created a sensitive double portrait of the polar regions. And in his characteristic aerial photographs, he even opened up new perspectives on well-known places like Mallorca.

In this new limited edition, The World, Poliza opens his digital treasure chest to reveal previously unpublished images from all seven continents. Like a true photographic world tour, we travel with him to Australia and New Zealand, to Vietnam and Myanmar, to the west of the USA and north to Canada, to the Galapagos Islands and Bolivia, across the Antarctic and the many lands of Africa. No matter how different the regions he explores, the photographer always captures extraordinary images, instilling both the beauty of our planet and an urgent need to protect the natural world.

Life has always shown Michael Poliza new paths: from actor to entrepreneur, from professional photographer to travel designer. After a career in the IT industry, Poliza launched a three-year multimedia expedition on a ship around the world. In 2002, he settled in Cape Town, travelled across Africa, and quickly became a world-renowned nature and landscape photographer. When he is not out and about, he lives in Hamburg, from where he organizes adventure trips with Michael Poliza Private Travel. The World is the WWF ambassador’s tenth book with teNeues. Sophy Roberts is an award-winning writer based in West Dorset, England. She holds two degrees from Oxford University, and an MSc in Journalism from Columbia University.
