Everyday Scenes from a Parallel World is a celebration of the beauty of the scenes and backgrounds in anime and manga.

This unusual book turns the spotlight exclusively on the scenes and background illustrations. With only a few ordinary characters in these scenes, attention here is focused on the beauty of the illustrated backgrounds.

These background artworks feature familiar scenes from daily life: nostalgic townscapes, detailed cityscapes, intricate architecture, rooms that look like doll houses, etc. They are extremely realistic and detailed -- almost like photographs -- but at the same time give readers the sense that we are looking at images of a parallel world.

The works featured are by 39 well-known, mostly Japanese creators, illustrators, and animators. Some creators featured have made their entire careers specializing in drawing backgrounds. Frequently overlooked, this book finally gives them the recognition they deserve. Additionally, a section that explains drawing techniques and materials is included. The profiles of creators with messages from each, descriptions of each creator's techniques and preferred materials are written in both Japanese and English text.

This stunning collection will appeal to all art lovers and is sure to bring creators massive inspiration, too.

Víctor Escandell
ID: 15109
Издательство: Hoaki

This richly illustrated new book by Victor Escandell is devoted exclusively to the infinite creative possibilities of drawing and painting in black and white. Traditional and current materials, techniques and applications (Indian ink, pencil, pen, bamboo, water-soluble graphite, different types of felt-tip pens for various supports, grattage) are described clearly so that readers can experiment with what they have learned and develop their creativity with a range of materials. Each chapter deals with a specific technique and contains useful information such as methods used, types of material and illustrated examples, including interesting anecdotes about the origin of the technique, tricks of the trade and references to other classic and contemporary authors. Everything is illustrated with photographs of the final result and images of the process to make sure readers don't get lost along the way. Different black-and-white mixed techniques are also presented in a specific chapter while the last chapter examines applications beyond paper (textiles, glass, vinyl). Víctor Escandell is also comfortable working with gouache, ink, charcoal, pen and pencil. In his hands, these tools take on a new dimension while everyday products such as salt, bleach and even a hair dryer become essential companions on this adventure. With this book, the apparently simple and limited combination of black and white acquires a new level of expressiveness and drama.

About the Author:

Renowned illustrator Víctor Escandell was born in Ibiza and graduated in Graphic Design from the prestigious Massana School of Barcelona. He has worked for companies such as MacCann-Erickson, TBWA, Bassat & Ogilvy and most of the Spanish national newspapers. In 2007 his work was selected for the exhibition of Catalan illustrators at the Frankfurt Book Fair. He is the author of The Resourceful Artist, A Wonderful World of Animals, Dinosaurs and Sweet Monsters of the World, all published by Promopress.

Marti Cormand

Издательство: Promopress

This original work introduces readers to the drawing and painting techniques of the hyperrealist movement, a style applied to painting whose techniques aspire to photographic exactitude in drawing.

From the first action before viewing the piece – the search for information and reference images – to different drawing and sculpture techniques, the book offers a step-by-step explanation of the creative process and shows readers how to illustrate in black and white and with colored pencils, how to work with watercolors and oil, how to create a trompe l’oeil and how to create a realistic-looking 3D model. Readers will find all the techniques and suggestions they need to make their own hyperrealist creations, all explained in a pleasant and fun way.

It is an original and creative way to introduce different drawing techniques that will awaken the artist inside of us all and whose results will strike most readers as surprising given the degree of realism achieved, as if they were photographs. The book includes references to contemporary artists who have used each of the techniques described, curiosities in the world of art and other tricks of the trade.

Sharp angles, strange forms, lurid colours, and distorted perspectives are classic hallmarks of Expressionism, the twentieth-century movement that prioritized emotion over objective reality.

Though particularly present in Germany and Austria, the movement's approach flourished internationally and is today hailed as one of the most influential shifts in art history.

With leading groups Die Brucke (The Bridge) and Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), and key players such as Wassily Kandinsky, Egon Schiele, and Emil Nolde, the Expressionists disowned Impressionism, which they regarded as "man lowered to the position of a gramophone record of the outer world, to depict instead a raw and visceral experience of life as it was felt, rather than seen on the surface. Their paintings brim with emotive force conveyed in particular through intense and non-naturalistic colour palettes, loose brushwork, and thick textures.

Covering the group's stylistic tendencies, influences, and most important protagonists, this introductory book explores the Expressionist panorama of moods, ideas, and emotions and their abiding quest for deep authenticity.

About the series:

Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Genre series features:

- a detailed illustrated introduction plus a timeline of the most important political, cultural and social events that took place during that period
- a selection of the most important works of the epoch, each of which is presented on a 2-page spread with a full-page image and with an interpretation of
the respective work, plus a portrait and brief biography of the artist
- approximately 100 colour illustrations with explanatory captions

Author Diane Keaton, Foreword by Ralph Lauren
ID: 18294
Издательство: Rizzoli

A fashion icon in her own right, Keaton amusingly revisits and reflects on some of her favorite and not-so-favorite fashion moments over the decades, from childhood homemade outfits to red carpet ensembles and street style experiments she tried from the 1960s until today.

Since she could remember, Keaton has been fascinated by clothing and style. As a little girl, she would pick out patterns and request that her mother make her custom outfits. This was the beginning of a love affair with clothes and looks, and sometimes, fashion. From the outset of her acting career in the 1970s, the legendary star has experimented and thought outside the lines of what a Hollywood icon should wear and still became lauded as a style icon by VogueWThe Hollywood Reporter, and countless fashion websites. Keaton’s style is at once timeless, experimental, bold, effortless, androgynous, quirky, and utterly and distinctly her own.

This is the celebrated film star’s ode to her unforgettable fashion moments examined through Keaton’s self-deprecating, charming voice, as she comments on her favorite looks and her biggest fashion faux pas. Images includes photos of a young Keaton sporting her mother’s homemade ensembles, stylish snapshots from the 1960s and iconic 1970s looks highlighting her signature Annie Hall style, red carpet moments, magazine editorials, street-style shots, and selfies from the 1980s until present day. Striking fashion photographs by renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Ruven Afanador, and Ron Gallela are accompanied by anecdotes about Keaton’s inspiring style from her longtime friends, collaborators, and fashion designers, including Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kris Jenner, Nancy Myers, Blake Lively, and Thom Browne. Truly entertaining and stylish, this is the book fashion lovers and fans of the inimitable actor have been waiting for.

The Swiss artist Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) was born in Lausanne, but spent much of his working life in France. Closely associated with Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard, and a fellow member of the avant-garde group Les Nabis, Vallotton has nonetheless sometimes been overshadowed by his more famous contemporaries. Although he produced some of his most important work in Paris in the 1890s, his original and innovative approach persisted throughout his career.

Texts by leading authorities look at Vallotton's life, work and reception. Generously illustrated throughout with the finest exemplars of the artist's paintings and prints, this book accompanies a new presentation of Vallotton's oeuvre that aims to re-evaluate his output and legacy, and includes works never seen in public before.

Exhibition organised by the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in collaboration with Fondation Félix Vallotton, Lausanne.

Ubiquitous in the music world, Fender® guitars and amplifiers are also icons in popular culture, their shapes and sounds instantly recognizable. Authoritatively written and lavishly illustrated, Fender 75 Years is the officially licensed anniversary celebration of the company and its legendary instruments.

Originating in Leo Fender’s modest radio and amplifier repair shop in Fullerton, California, Fender Musical Instrument Corporation went on to become the world’s preeminent name in musical instruments. Today, Fender’s guitars, amplifiers, and script logo are recognizable even to those with only a casual interest in music.

All the innovations and landmark models are here, as well as legendary players who became synonymous with Fender instruments across musical genres.

The Jazz Bass® and Precision Bass® also feature, as do Fender’s acoustic guitars and workhorse amplifiers like the Bassman®, Twin Reverb®, and Princeton®, to name a few.

Along the way, readers get in-depth scoops on the relationships dozens of players have enjoyed with Fender: rock ’n’ roll pioneers like Hank Marvin and James Burton; classic-rock icons like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton; blues legends Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Buddy Guy; alt-rock gods J Mascis and Kurt Cobain; more recent guitar heroes like Courtney Barnett, beabadoobee, and H.E.R. …the list goes on. Juliette Aristides
ID: 13300
Издательство: Monacelli Press

Figure Drawing Atelier offers a comprehensive, contemporary twist to the very traditional Atelier approach to the methods that instruct artists on the techniques they need to successfully draw and ultimately paint the figure.

The book offers art instruction, practical and progressive lessons on drawing the figure, and high-quality, sketchbook paper in a beautiful package that includes blank pages for sketching and copying. Artists will then have a record of their process, like with a sketchbook, which many artists like to document and save.

In this elegant and inspiring workbook, master contemporary artist and author Juliette Aristides breaks down the figure drawing process into small, manageable lessons; presents them progressively; introduces time-tested principles and techniques in the Atelier tradition that are easily accessible; and shares the language and context necessary to understand the artistic process and create superior, well-crafted drawings.

Atelier education is centered on the belief that working in a studio, not sitting in the lecture hall, is the best place to learn about art. Every artist needs to learn to master figure drawing. Ateliers have produced the greatest artists of all time -- and now that educational model is experiencing a renaissance. These studios, a return to classical art training, are based on the nineteenth-century model of teaching artists by pairing them with a master artist over a period of years. Students begin by copying masterworks, then gradually progress to painting as their skills develop.

Figure Drawing Atelier is like having an atelier in a book -- and the master is Juliette Aristides, a classically trained artist and best-selling art-instruction author with almost rock-star popularity in the contemporary world of representational art. On every page, Aristides uses the works of Old Masters and today's most respected realist artists to demonstrate and teach the principles of realistic figure drawing and painting, taking students to step by step through the learning curve yet allowing them to work at their own pace. Unique and inspiring, this book offers a serious art course for serious art students.

About the Author:

Juliette Aristides is an extraordinary artist with a deep and well-rounded education in and solid commitment to the atelier movement. She studied at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and various private ateliers. She is currently the instructor of the Aristides Classical Atelier at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, Washington. In 2003, Juliette was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant. Her work can be seen at the John Pence Gallery in San Francisco and the Art Renewal Center Living Masters Gallery. She is the author of acclaimed bestsellers Lessons in Classical PaintingLessons in Classical Drawing and Classical Painting Atelier.

Figure Drawing for Artists: Making Every Mark Count is not a typical drawing instruction book; it explains the two-step process behind juggernauts like DreamWorks, WB and Disney.

Though there are many books on drawing the human figure, none teach how to draw a figure from the first few marks of the quick sketch to the last virtuosic stroke of the finished masterpiece, let alone through a convincing, easy-to-understand method.

That changes now!

In Figure Drawing for Artists: Making Every Mark Count, award-winning fine artist Steve Huston shows beginners and pros alike the two foundational concepts behind the greatest masterpieces in art and how to use them as the basis for their own success.

Embark on a drawing journey and discover how these twin pillars of support are behind everything from the Venus De Milo, to Michelangelo's Sibyl, to George Bellow's Stag at Sharkey's, and how they're the fundamental tools for animation studios around the world. Not to mention how the best comic book artists since the beginnings of the art form use them whether they know it or not.

Figure Drawing for Artists: Making Every Mark Count sketches out the same two-step method taught to the artists of DreamWorks, Warner Brothers, and Disney Animation, so pick up a pencil and get drawing.
