Richard Hambleton (1954–2017) was a Canadian artist known for his pioneering street art. He was a surviving member of a group that emerged from the New York City art scene during the booming art market of the 1980s, which also included his close friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

As a conceptual artist, Hambleton’s early work installations titled “Image Mass Murder” from 1976–1979 were secretly placed onto streets in over 15 cities, depicting chalk-body outlines and blood-splattered crime scenes of what appeared to be “victims.” This theme of a prevailing violence, fear, and morbid curiosity elicited surprise and anxiety from its unsuspecting viewers. In the early 1980s, Hambleton created his most iconic “Shadow Man” works — artfully splattered ominous shadowy figures on unexpected street corners, walls, and alleys that startled viewers into a visceral awareness that the city was still a dangerous place.

About the Authors:

He has organized over thirty exhibitions worldwide and written more than twenty books and a number of articles on ritual art from Congo. Marc has lectured worldwide at universities, museums, and symposia, and co-organized, in 2001, the first-ever exhibition of ritual art from the "Kongo Kingdom" in China, held at the National Museum of China in Beijing. Together with Mr. Henry Lu, he has organized more than twenty-five exhibitions about African art in the Greater China region.

Henry C.C. Lu is based in Hong Kong. He is a merchant, collector, curator, and organizer of cultural events.

Lewis Ho is a photographer based in Hong Kong, member of the HKIPP (Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers).

Paul Louis is a Brussels-based photographer, renowned for his captivating captures of "Ritual Figures in Congo" and "Masks in Congo."

This is the first monograph on the great American artist's work as a sculptor.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition held at the Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova for the 2013 Venice Biennale, the monograph exhaustively illustrates the sculptures Lichtenstein created between 1968 and 1997, the year of his death. From his first ceramic works down to large-scale public ones, the volume seeks to trace the artistic process leading from draughts and drawings to collages, maquettes, metal sculptures and large-scale urban installations. It also seeks to explore Lichtenstein's work on industrial manufacturing methods and techniques, by providing important information about the workshops the artist collaborated with during his career.

The book is intended to offer a comprehensive overview of the artist's experimental use of methods of industrial production, along with a selection of interviews and texts on his two-dimensional sculptures.

The art historian, critic and theoretician Germano Celant has curated exhibitions throughout the world and authored over a hundred books and catalogues.
