A cookbook of simple, delicious, empowering recipes from the man who really knows what men like

Matt Hranek, the bestselling author of A Man & His WatchNegroni, and other books, has a direct line to a certain kind of male reader. He knows just what they like, what they aspire to, the things that interest them. And as a real lover of life, especially food and drink, he even knows what his readers want to eat: When Matt recently posted a selfie with steak, thousands of fans took the same picture. Now he’s poised to create an even deeper bond with his readers, old and new, with his first cookbook.

A Man & His Kitchen is like an invitation to Matt’s storied country retreat, the Wm Brown Farm in upstate New York, to learn how to cook the hundred-plus recipes he considers his greatest hits — simple, straightforward, and, most of all, delicious dishes to feed yourself, your family, and your friends. There’s nothing precious here, nothing trendy, just really good classic food that, at the end of the day, is all anyone wants to eat: Lobster Rolls, Vinegar-Braised Short Ribs, Roast Chicken with Potatoes, Gravlax, Chopped Radicchio Salad with Anchovy Vinaigrette, Moules Marinières, Paccheri with Shrimp, American Diner–Style Omelet, Porcini Risotto, and that steak — two, actually, Grilled Rib-Eye Steak for One and a Steak au Poivre with Parsley Salad. And just enough desserts to have in your back pocket, including Berry Galette, Flourless Chocolate Cake, and notes on the importance of keeping a stash of Klondike bars in the freezer.

Along the way, Hranek shares everything: what he keeps in his pantry, how he outfits his kitchen, shopping strategies (never come home from a trip without a few local ingredients; look for classic cookware at flea markets and tag sales), his no-waste philosophy for trimmings and leftovers, and dozens and dozens of pro tips (leave the skin on potatoes for better-tasting home fries; mix salad dressing in a jar and shake like hell for perfect emulsification; scissors are the easiest way to cut homemade pizza and focaccia).

With its beautiful photographs and elegant look, A Man & His Kitchen is a stunning book, perfect for any man interested in cooking, no matter what level of expertise—because the real gift of this book is Matt’s enthusiastic voice, encouraging us all to become passionate, attentive, and confident cooks.

A century ago the cocktail achieved perfection when, according to legend, Count Camillo Negroni asked his bartender in Florence to stiffen an Americano by replacing the soda water with gin. The world never looked back. With its cosmically simple 1:1:1 ratio, its balance of bitter and sweet, its pleasant kick, its aura of sophistication, the Negroni has bewitched cocktail lovers ever since. Perhaps none more so than Matt Hranek, who intones this love song to his favorite drink and offers a curated collection of recipes, both the classic and dozens of variations, deviations, and delicious reinterpretations.

In 2019, the Negroni turned 100 years old, and it's more popular than ever. The drink's classic proportions are equal parts Campari, gin, and sweet vermouth, making it an easy cocktail to order and to make on your own. The Negroni will give readers insight into the drink's origins in Italy (it started as a twist on the Americano), and the tools to make over 20 simple variations from drink experts and bartenders around the world. Here's the Negroni Frappé from the famed bar Dante in New York City; the Negroni Spagliato from Bar Basso in Milan, where the gin is replaced with prosecco; and the author's own version, which goes heavier on the gin and lighter on the vermouth. Included will be details on garnish, bitters, tools, glassware; a section on the importance of the vermouth used; interviews with bartenders from around the world; where to get the best Negroni; and so much more. Beautiful original photography of the drinks along with archival imagery of famous Negroni lovers--like Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles--and vintage liquor ads make this gorgeous book an irresistible gift for anyone who loves to enjoy a Negroni.

Sophisticated, evocative, and delicious, the martini will never go out of style. Appearing in countless movies — for example, any one of the Bond films — it’s one of the most popular and well-known cocktails of all time. Making a martini is simplicity personified, the classic recipe requiring just two ingredients (not counting the garnish): gin and vermouth. And now man-about-town Matt Hranek is here to tell us everything we need to know about the iconic cocktail. Like Hranek’s The NegroniThe Martini will give readers insight into the drink’s nineteenth-century-origins, as well as the tools for making 35 simple variations of the drink — a combination of recipes from the author, recipes from experts/bartenders around the world, and iconic versions that any martini fanatic needs to have on hand.

Included are the author’s own version, always with gin (never vodka), served ice cold and dry with a twist of lemon (or, on very rare occasions, like when he is hungry, an olive); the Martinez (circa 1849), named for the city of Martinez about 25 miles northeast of San Francisco, where some say this all began; a lime martini, a nod to Hranek’s father, who loved a gin and tonic; and New York City legend Russ & Daughters Cafe’s own martinis, “The Lower East Side” and “The Smoked Martini.” There will be details on ingredients, methods (to shake or to stir?), garnish, equipment, glassware; where to get the best martini around the world, and more. Beautiful original and archival photography make this an irresistible gift for anyone who loves to enjoy a martini.

Celebrate That Special Bond Between Men and Cars, and the Stories That Connect Them

Discover actor and director Ed Burns talking about his 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, a model he’d been dreaming about since his days pumping gas. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, whose favorite cars are trucks — he loves the wow factor of an International CV Series 6.6. Or Jay Leno on his 1955 Buick Roadmaster, big enough for him to sleep in while trying to make it as a comic. Filled with stunning photographs of the whole cars and of the exquisite details that make car lovers’ hearts beat just a little faster, as well as more than 80 personal stories, it’s a joy for every reader who knows that a car is never just a car.

Man-about-town and NYC men's style fixture Matt Hranek is back with his second book, A Man & His Car.

Here is a beautiful homage to an object of men's obsession, told in firsthand and original interviews. Jay Leno, a major car collector and the host of Jay Leno's Garage, shares the story of his oldest car, a 1955 Buick Roadmaster that he bought for $350, which he literally slept in before getting his break in L.A. Kevin Costner reveals that he got so attached to the iconic Shelby Mustang he drove in the movie Bull Durham, he bought it for his own personal collection. Franz von Holzhausen, chief designer at Tesla, who worked hand in hand with Elon Musk to design the Tesla Model S prototype, says that his love of cars started when he was two (as evidenced by a picture of him sitting in a high chair drawing a car). And as for Snoop Dogg and his 1965 Cadillac "Snoop DeVille" convertible -- do we even need to explain?

A Man & His Car includes visits to some of the most exclusive collections in the world -- from that of the Petersen Automotive Museum to those of car manufacturers from Fiat to Ford -- giving us access to Steve McQueen's favorite car, a 1956 Jaguar XKSS; the 1971 DeTomaso Pantera that Elvis purchased for his then-girlfriend Linda Thompson (and which has two bullet holes in the steering wheel and one in the driver's-side floorpan from when, after an altercation with Thompson, Presley fired three rounds into the interior when the car wouldn't start); and a super-rare, 24-karat-gold-plated 1980 DeLorean DMC-12, a model that was sold exclusively to American Express Gold Card members through the 1980 American Express catalog, for an astronomical $85,000 (equivalent to more than $250,000 today). Exquisite photos of each car accompany each story, and since cars naturally hold more detail than watches, there will be more photos in this book -- of the cars head-on, of their hood ornaments and wheels, and of course full-body shots. With Hranek's storytelling, the cars become more than just vehicles for transportation and status symbols; they represent pop-culture moments, pioneering achievements, heirlooms, friendships, and more.

Paul Newman wore his Rolex Daytona every single day for 35 years until his death in 2008. The iconic timepiece, probably the single most sought-after watch in the world, is now in the possession of his daughter Clea, who wears it every day in his memory. Franklin Roosevelt wore an elegant gold Tiffany watch, gifted to him by a friend on his birthday, to the famous Yalta Conference where he shook the hands of Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill. JFK’s Omega worn to his presidential inauguration, Ralph Lauren’s watch purchased from Andy Warhol’s personal collection, Sir Edmund Hillary’s Rolex worn during the first-ever summit of Mt. Everest . . . these and many more compose the stories of the world’s most coveted watches captured in A Man and His Watch. Matthew Hranek, a watch collector and NYC men’s style fixture, has travelled the world conducting firsthand interviews and diving into exclusive collections to gather the never-before-told stories of 76 watches, completed with stunning original photography of every single piece.

Through these intimate accounts and Hranek’s storytelling, the watches become more than just timepieces and status symbols; they represent historical moments, pioneering achievements, heirlooms, family mementos, gifts of affection, and lifelong friendships.

“I’ve paged through stacks of books on the history of watches. . . . But I hadn’t come across a book that actually moved me until I picked up A Man and His Watch. The volume is filled with heartfelt stories.”
