Antiques in Italian Interiors showcases a marvellous range of antiques - from small works of art to rare decorative objects to period furniture - housed in some of the most beautiful private residences in Italy.

Antiques in Italian Interiors, Volume II presents a collection of extravagant Italian interiors that house marvelous collections of artwork and antiques.

Following the success of the previous volume in the series (published by Verba Volant in 2005), this new book will open the doors to more private residences belonging to merchant princes, collectors, and royalty. The fifteen interiors selected by art historian Roberto Valeriani and architectural photographer Mario Ciampi are located throughout the Italian peninsula.

In the capital city the Galleria Colonna, with its opulent halls and parlors, contains a celebrated art collection that belongs to a prestigious Roman family. Embellished with frescos dating to the seventeenth century, the princely baroque spaces boast masterpieces from the fifteenth to eighteenth century. Albuquerque-based Antoine Predock is generally acknowledged as the premier architect practicing in the Southwest, although he also has projects in Denmark, France, Spain, and Morocco.

He is known for a philosophical ethos that does not privilege architecture over environment, but fosters a relationship in which a building is analogous to the landscape in which it is set. Predock's use of such natural materials as adobe and sand-colored stone demonstrate an appreciation for local historical precedent as well as a concern for environmental soundness; however, he is in the vanguard in his use of the most technologically advanced methods of construction. Drawing from the pulse of the land, Predock's work embraces uniqueness of site, referencing local history, culture, myths, and people.

This monograph features his latest work, including Highland Ponds, in Aspen; Austin City Hall, in Texas; the Tacoma Art Museum; and Shadow House, in Santa Fe, among others. Antoine Predock has taught at universities in Italy and Argentina, as well as at Harvard University, Southern California Institute of Architecture, and UCLA. He has won many awards for his work, including the Rome Prize of the American Academy in Rome, National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), and the Gran Premio Internacional de Arquitectura de Buenos Aires.

Spanish architect and designer Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) is an important and influential figure in the history of contemporary Spanish art. His use of colour, application of different materials and introduction of movement in his constructions were an innovation in the realm of architecture. In his journal, Gaudí freely expressed his own feelings on art, “the colours used in architecture have to be intense, logical and fertile.”

The author, Jeremy Roe, is interested in a wide range of photography and architectural detail. This interest drives the author and enables him to reveal the context of the art of Barcelona while he guides us through an introduction to Antoni Gaudí, master of some of the most famous constructions, design objects and greatest works in Spanish architecture. This volume throws light upon an art expression to be found clad in the garments of Moroccan architecture. This work provides keys to the understanding of geometrical arabesques. This art of a rare and precious mastery was elaborated through the determined efforts of generations of anonymous artists. A brief historical survey defines the specificity of Islamic art in Morocco.

Three principal styles of decorative architecture are studied: calligraphy, floral arabesque, and geometrical arabesque. Illustrations and photographs of some of the most beautiful sites of Morocco (monuments, royal palaces and cities) are a pleasure for the eye.
