‘… the book is the perfect symbol of everything Ford has achieved … even more
collectable and powerful than anything that ever came down a runway’
– The Financial Times

Read it and weep’ – The Evening Standard

Foreword by Anna Wintour

Tom Ford is the design genius who took the helm at Gucci for ten years.

This lavish volume is a complete catalogue of his design work for both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. It chronicles not only Ford’s clothing and accessories designs for both houses but also explores Ford’s grand vision for the complete design of a brand, including architecture, store design and advertising.

In the past decade, he transformed Gucci into one of the sexiest fashion brands in the world. His designs have increased sales at Gucci tenfold and have helped build that brand into the luxury goods conglomerate that it is today.

Tom Ford features more than 200 photographs by Richard Avedon, Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Terry Richardson, Craig McDean, Todd Eberle, and numerous other photographers including many previously unpublished images.

Published to coincide with his departure from Gucci, this book has been created with Ford’s full co-operation and every page reflects his exceptional taste. It is Ford’s testament to a career of singular moments reinventing the boundaries of style and sensuality.

Maison Martin Margiela, Contribution by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Susannah Frankel, Andree Putman and Vanessa Beecroft
ID: 7964
Издательство: Rizzoli

Graduating from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s, Martin Margiela (and his contemporaries in the Antwerp Six) transformed global fashion with his aggressive restatement of traditional fashion design and a polemical approach to luxury trends. Working first with the house of Gaultier, Margiela absorbed the radical design of Japanese deconstruction, making it wholly his own with the founding of his own label in 1988. Margiela propounds a singular, enigmatic look, moving beyond the recognizable tropes of deconstruction - a monochromatic palette, outsized garments, non-traditional fabrics, exposed seams, or roughly appliquéd details - to develop a fully considered worldview, one with elegance, mystery, and menace in equal measure.

This book provides an inside look at the design process from a craftsman who creates pieces prized for their originality, delicacy, and daring. In the spirit of Margiela’s garments, the book is a work of art in itself, designed exclusively by Margiela and complete with silver inks, ribbon markers, a variety of lush paper types, twelve booklets, and an embroidered white-linen cover. This book provides a window onto the intimate, handmade world of a unique designer.

About the Author

Martin Margiela, born in 1957 in Leuven, Belgium, is the principal designer of his own Paris-based fashion house.

A major survey of the Japanese designers, artisans, manufacturers and technologies that have shaped the world of modern design

A dedication to craft and the finest production quality have been an integral part of culture and day-to-day life in Japan for centuries. For the Japanese, the concept of design is not limited to functionality or materiality, but wholly connected with ancient culture and rituals. In this sense, a chair is much more than what you sit on, a cup more than what you drink from: these objects are to be reflected upon, to be touched and cherished.

As mass manufacturing became widespread in the post-war period, fascinating cross-cultural exchanges began to take place between Japan and the West. These gave rise not only to timeless objects of great beauty and utility, but innovations in materials, form and technology. Far beyond the icons of Japanese design – the perfectly weighted Kikkoman soy sauce bottle, Yanagi’s butterfly stool, the Sony Walkman – the products and objects that have emerged from the country over the past seven decades, few of which have been widely exported, serve to delight and draw admiration. In recent years, a new generation of designers – Nendo, Yoshioka – have taken Japanese creativity into entirely new territory, reconceptualizing the very meaning of design.

No attempt has been made to present a complete overview of Japanese design, until now. Showcasing over eighty designers, hundreds of objects, and contributions from both Japanese and Western design experts, this volume will become the definitive work on the subject for many years to come.

Contents List:

Foreword by Maasaki Kanai • Introduction: The Craft of Japanese Design • The Design Titans • The Designers and Everyday Icons: Tables & Chairs • Essay by Naomi Pollock • Food & Drink • Essay by Makoto Shimazaki • On&Off • Essay by Shinji Hamada • Posters & Packaging • Warp & Weft • Essay by Matilda McQuaid • Lifestyle & Leisure • A–Z of Designers

An irresistible look into more than 300 years of fashion through an exquisite collection of designer dresses

What woman can resist imagining herself in a beautiful designer dress? Here, for the first time ever, are 100 fabulous gowns from the permanent collection of the renowned Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, each of which is a reminder of the ways fashion reflects the broader culture that created it.

Featuring designs by Paul Poiret, Coco Chanel, Madame Grès, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, and many others, this one-of-a-kind collection presents a stunning variety of garments. Ranging from the buttoned-up gowns of the late 17th century to the cutting-edge designs of the early 21st, the dresses reflect the sensibilities and excesses of each era while providing a vivid picture of how styles have changed — sometimes radically — over the years. A late 1600s wool dress with a surprising splash of silver thread; a large-bustled red satin dress from the 1800s; a short, shimmery 1920s dancing dress; a glamorous 1950s cocktail dress; and a 1960s minidress — each tells a story about its period and serves as a testament to the enduring ingenuity of the fashion designer’s art.

Images of the dresses are accompanied by informative text and enhanced by close-up details as well as runway photos, fashion plates, works of art, and portraits of designers. A glossary of related terms is also included.

This inspiring book chronicles the most influential ideas that underpin design thinking. These all-important concepts have not only shaped the evolution of design throughout its history, but also continue to exert an enormous influence on contemporary design practice. Written by two renowned design experts, it provides a concise history of the subject, while offering a fascinating resource to dip into for the general reader.
