About the Authors:

Stanley Donwood is an artist and writer who has collaborated with Radiohead since the release of their single ‘My Iron Lung’ in 1994. Having met frontman Thom Yorke at the University of Exeter, he has gone on to create all the band’s artwork to date. In addition to his work for Radiohead, Donwood maintains a website, ‘Slowly Downward’, of his stories and other writings, and has exhibited in London, Sydney, Los Angeles and elsewhere.
Thom Yorke is an English musician and the singer and main songwriter of the band Radiohead.

Alex Steinweiss (1917–2011) invented the album cover as we know it. In 1940, as Columbia Records young new art director, he pitched an idea: Why not replace the standard plain brown wrapper with an eye-catching illustration? Over the next three decades, Steinweiss made thousands of original artworks for classical, jazz, and popular record covers for Columbia, Decca, London, and Everest; as well as logos, labels, advertising material, even his own typeface, the Steinweiss Scrawl. About the Author:

Terry Burrows is an author, musician and producer. Best known as a cult performer under the alias Yukio Yung, Burrows has recorded with The Chrysanthemums, Asmus Tietchens and the duo Push-Button Pleasure. He is also a prolific author of more than 80 books relating to music history, tuition and technology, popular psychology and history.

The book opens in January 1969, the beginning of The Beatles’ last year as a band. The Beatles (The White Album) is at number one in the charts and the foursome gather in London for a new project. Over 21 days, first at Twickenham Film Studios and then at their own brand-new Apple Studios, with cameras and tape recorders documenting every day’s work and conversations, the band rehearse a huge number of songs, culminating in their final concert, which famously takes place on the rooftop of their own office building, bringing central London to a halt.

The Beatles: Get Back tells the story of those sessions through transcripts of the band’s candid conversations. Drawing on over 120 hours of sound recordings, leading music writer John Harris edits the richly captivating text to give us a fly-on-the-wall experience of being there in the studios.
