About the Author

Geoff MacCormack, David Bowie’s lifelong friend, joined Bowie’s 1973 world tour as an additional back-up vocalist and percussionist, and later as a ‘Diamond Dog’ in '74 and what would be known as ‘The Young Americans Soul Tour’. He also worked on the six albums from Aladdin Sane to Station to Station. After three years of touring, recording and travelling with Bowie, MacCormack started an award winning (Gold Clio, Ivor Novello) music production partnership with Simon Goldenberg who he met, coincidentally, in The Three Tuns pub, home of Bowie’s earlier ‘Arts Lab’. For over 20 years, they wrote music for high-end advertising, films and TV. Geoff now manages the use and sale of his photographs of David Bowie around the world and has exhibited in St Petersburg, the USA and the UK, including the hugely successful ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll with Me’ exhibition at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery from September 2020 through to May 2022.

Jimmy Page, OBE, is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time, and one of the most important record producers and songwriters in rock history. Page first picked up a guitar aged 12 and performed with Neil Christian and the Crusaders as soon as he left school. He honed his craft as a session musician in London and, by the mid-Sixties, was one of the most sought-after guitarists in Britain. He was a member of the Yardbirds from 1966-1968 and then, in late 1968, founded Led Zeppelin, one of rock’s most successful and enduring bands, who have sold more than 300 million records to date.

Following Led Zeppelin, in the 1980s Page went on to produce a film soundtrack, Death Wish II, toured with Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck on the fundraising A.R.M.S. tour, formed bands the Firm and Coverdale Page, and released a solo album, Outrider. Anderson moves seamlessly between the music world and the fine-art world while maintaining her stronghold in both. A true polymath, her interest in new media made her an early pioneer of harnessing technology for artistic purposes long before the technology boom of the last ten years. Regardless of the medium, however, it is exploration of language (and how it seeps into the image) and storytelling that is her métier.

A few years ago, Anderson began poring through her extensive archive of nearly forty years of work, which includes scores of documentation, notebooks, and sketchbooks. In the process, she rediscovered important work and looked at well-known projects with a new lens. In this landmark volume, the artist brings together the most comprehensive collection of her artwork to date, some of which has never before been seen or published. Spanning drawing, multimedia installations, performance, and new projects using augmented reality, the extensive volume traverses four decades of her groundbreaking art. Each chapter includes commentary written by Anderson herself, offering an intimate understanding of her work through the artist’s own words.

She has exhibited widely around the world, including at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; the Musée d’art contemporain, Lyon, France; Fondazione Tramontano Arte, Naples; the Park Avenue Armory, New York; and MASS MoCa, North Adams, Massachusetts.
