The Day of the Dead is a comprehensive, visual compilation of all forms of artistic material celebrating the world-famous annual Mexican festival. According to Mexican tradition, one day in the year belongs exclusively to the dead, a day on which they are granted celestial permission to visit friends and relatives on earth. In modern Mexico, festivities for the dead are idiosyncratic. Blending pre-Christian and Christian elements, celebrations for All Saints' and All Souls are unique in the Catholic world. Mexicans are as tormented by the idea of mortality as other nations, yet they honour and receive the departed with good cheer, visual splendour and imagination. Families welcome the returning souls with flowers, incense, candles and special foods. This is not a sombre occasion, but a time of feasting and reunion.

This anthology considers how the Day of the Dead has been celebrated in visual art and culture, from the traditional and iconic illustrations of skulls and singing skeletons by seminal lithographer José Guadalupe Posada to the paper cuts of Aaron Velasco Pacheco and representations of the festival by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo and in the folk art of the Linares family.

Curated by Julian Rothenstein and written by Chloë Sayer, an independent scholar and curator, specializing in Mexican art and culture, this is a must-have book for anyone interested in this extraordinary cultural event and its artistic representation.

"The Mexican...is familiar with death, jokes about it, caresses it, sleeps with it, celebrates it; it is one of his favourite toys and his most steadfast love." Octavio Paz, El laberinto de la soledad, (The Labyrinth of Solitude, 1961).

The first comprehensive overview of Chloé’s collections presented through catwalk photography, published in collaboration with Chloé to celebrate the house’s 70th anniversary in 2022.

Founded by Egyptian-born Gaby Aghion in 1952, Chloé pioneered luxury ready-to-wear that was all about ease and femininity, offering an elegant haute bohemian style for the modern, liberated Parisienne. Resolutely contemporary, the house spotted and hired a young Karl Lagerfeld as early as the 1960s: he stayed for over two decades, achieving fame and recognition worldwide through his Chloé work, before Stella McCartney (and her then assistant Phoebe Philo) succeeded him straight out of fashion school.

This definitive publication opens with a concise history of the house of Chloé before exploring the collections themselves, which are organized chronologically. Each new era in Chloé’s history opens with a brief overview and biography of the new designer, while individual collections are introduced by a short text unveiling their influences and highlights, and illustrated with carefully curated catwalk images. A rich reference section, including an extensive index, concludes the book.

After ChanelDiorLouis VuittonYves Saint LaurentPradaVivienne Westwood and Versace, Chloé is the eighth in the Catwalk Series of high-end, cloth-bound books that offer an unrivalled overview of the collections of the world’s top fashion houses through original catwalk photography.

In the 1990s, queer youth, outcasts and artists, flocked to San Francisco to find one another and to experiment with art, self-expression, style, and gender. Rent was affordable, paving the way for queer bars, clubs, tattoo shops, galleries, cafes, bookstores, and women-owned businesses to emerge. A new wave of feminism embraced gender bending, and butch/femme culture flourished. The Mission District was the center of this queer cultural renaissance, and the feeling of community was palpable. Chloe Sherman was both a member of this community and an ardent visual chronicler. Her documentary photographic work on 35mm film stems from a commitment to capturing the vibrancy, tenderness, individuality, resilience, and joy within this subculture that was derided by mainstream society. Distilling the spirit of the time, her debut monograph is a candid portrait of a vibrant era that connects current and future generations to the pulse of San Francisco at a pivotal chapter in queer history.

Chloe Sherman (*1969, New York City) arrived in San Francisco in 1991 and earned her BFA in Photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in magazines such as Rolling Stone and Interview. Her documentary photography is deeply influenced by her fine arts training.

This first full-career monograph, featuring two decades of iconic fashion and celebrity editorial photographs, reveals the enormous influence and impact that Richardson has made on contemporary style, culture, and photography.

Since Terry Richardson first rose to prominence in the 1990s, he was shocked and intrigued the world with his singular view and signature style of bold lighting, hypersexualized styling, and striking, off-kilter glamour. From glossy, high-end fashion photographs to raw in-studio portraits, Richardson’s work has had an unmistakable impact on contemporary visual culture.

This much-anticipated monograph is the first to cover Richardson’s complete career to date. It chronicles more than twenty years of photographs, advertising campaigns, and editorial work, revealing the evolution of Richardson’s style, an unexpected mix of glamour and rawness.

This two-volume set, which is separated into Richardson’s fashion photography and celebrity portraiture, features more than 600 photographs and includes early, rarely seen magazine work from now-defunct publications; iconic and influential work for magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The Face, i-D, Vice, and Interview; advertising work for brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Chloé, and A.P.C.; and very intimate studio portraits.

This compilation is an intriguing look at the mark Richardson’s work has made on fashion, photography, and pop culture, and it captures his edgy, provocative style in a book that is as unusual and unforgettable as the photographer himself.

Fashion’s leading shoemaker, Manolo Blahnik is one of the handful of designers whose name is synonymous with their product. His success has lasted from setting up as a shoe designer in a Chelsea boutique in the 1970s to the present day, with American Vogue’s Anna Wintour declaring ‘The truth is, I wear no other shoes except his’.

Blahnik has collaborated with many leading fashion designers – from Ossie Clark at the start of his career and John Galliano at Dior at its height – but Blahnik’s greatest achievement is to have made footwear, previously subservient to the overall concept of a look, the most important of all accessories. His many covers and features in the pages of Vogue reveal that wearing a pair of ‘Manolos’ is to be utterly transformed; in Blahnik’s dreamy, handmade creations, a woman can reinvent her personality. She is a Lolita in his Mary-Janes and a red carpet diva in his satin mules. Or as Madonna once put it, with characteristic bluntness: ‘His shoes are wonderful, and they last longer than sex.’

Alexander (Lee) McQueen was - for the 15 years that he stood at its helm - British fashion's most significant figure.

Alexander McQueen extraordinary career, which took him from humble beginnings as an apprentice on Savile Row to the creative directorship of his own global brand, is a story of hard work, ambition and visionary brilliance.

Leading photographers such as Mario Testino and Corinne Day photographed his stunning designs for Vogue, and through them, Alexander McQueen's career is presented - from the controversy of his early shows to the elegiac perfection of his last - with a particular emphasis on the evolution of his signature style: immaculate tailoring, slashed fabric, historical references and beauty in the macabre.

The book shows that McQueen's own ambition was fully realised: 'I want to be the purveyor of a certain silhouette or a way of cutting so that, when I'm dead and gone, people will know that the Twenty-first Century was started by Alexander McQueen'.

Vogue, the international fashion bible, has charted the careers of designers through the decades. Its unique archive of photographs, taken by the leading photographers of the day from Cecil Beaton to Mario Testino, and original illustrations, together with its stable of highly respected fashion writers, make Vogue the most authoritative and prestigious source of reference on fashion. With a circulation of over 160,000 and a readership of over 1,400,000, no brand is better positioned to present a library on the great fashion designers of the modern age.

This handsome volume chronicles the rise of the fashion house Chloé, a crucible of creativity for some of fashion’s most notable designers.

The fashion brand Chloé may be sixty years old, but she still exudes a youthful elegance and femininity. As the first high-end Paris fashion house to sell exclusively ready-to-wear clothing, Chloé has since redefined its look for the modern woman with flattering colors, quality materials, and a series of must-have It bags.

Chloé started in 1952 when Gaby Aghion invented the revolutionary idea of luxury prêt-à-porter, taking the craftsmanship of haute couture and making it available to a wider audience. Her focus on the beautiful yet wearable gave the line currency with chic young women. Born in Egypt in 1921 and moving to Paris when she was in her twenties, Aghion dressed some of the most fashionable and powerful women of her day, including Jackie O, Grace Kelly, and Brigitte Bardot. Her vision has always been maintained through the company’s extensive career.

The company’s lively and fresh energy has been sustained through the decades partly because it seeks out new talent, including then-28-year-old designer Karl Lagerfeld, who started with the company in 1966.

The book explores his career at Chloé, along with Martine Sitbon (in 1988), Stella McCartney, who joined Chloé when she was 26 (in 1997), and Phoebe Philo, who was responsible for Chloé’s major reinvention from 2001 to 2006, where she is credited for bringing a sensual and personal touch to the line. It is currently helmed by Clare Waight Keller, who previously reinvigorated the fashion line Pringle of Scotland. Chloé, in short, is the modern woman—refined and redefined.

New London Style takes a fresh look into the homes of the most exciting young creatives in the city, from the music, fashion, design and art worlds. This new wave is injecting funkiness and bright ideas into highly individual and inspirational interiors.

A great number of these ideas begin in the intimacy of their own homes but have come to attract international attention, so a glimpse into these interiors reveals a world of creativity.

The twenty-eight houses are in the grooviest, on-the-edge neighbourhoods – from Shoreditch to Notting Hill, Camberwell to Clerkenwell – and reflect the cosmopolitan melting pot that influences London’s design trends – whether in a mews house, a derelict pub, or even a church.

Textiles owe their development to religion, commerce, exchange and travel, and their vibrant and creative preservation to tenacious regionalism. Artists and designers from India, Mali, Madagascar, Morocco, Burkina Faso and Nigeria have reinvigorated art and fashion by using the fabrics and graphic elements they find on the streets of London, Paris and New York and other cities.

Extraordinary technological developments, from colour-changing, light-sensitive camouflage to emergency shelters of cement-impregnated fabric bonded to an inflatable plastic, are included here alongside the simply beautiful, such as Eley Kishimoto’s patterns that point to the historical exchange of ideas between the East and the West, or the astonishing colour transmutations of Morphotex.
