With “McMansions” increasingly giving way to “tiny” houses, the desire to downsize and be more ecologically and economically prudent is a concept many are beginning to embrace. Focusing on dwelling spaces all under 1,000 square feet, Tiny Houses by Mimi Zeiger aims to challenge readers to take a look at their own homes and consider how much space they actively use.

Ranging from tree houses to floating houses, Tiny Houses features an international collection of over thirty modular and prefab homes, each one embodying “microgreen living”, defined as the creation of tiny homes where people challenge themselves to live “greener” lives. By using a thoughtful application of green living principles, renewable resources for construction, and clever ingenuity, these homes exemplify sustainable living at its best.

How Living Spaces Reduced to the Max Can Maximize the Quality of Life

The desire for as much space as possible on as little room as necessary is neither automatically connected to an alternative lifestyle nor is it a protest against our luxury-oriented society. Sometimes it simply makes life easier, more comfortable, and more economical. The “Tiny House Movement” lifestyle trend, which began in the United States, has spread throughout the entire world, intensified by the construction and financial crisis.

This title presents contemporary projects from around the world that take on the simple yet challenging task to develop enthralling room concepts and spatial solutions for the efficient use of the smallest living spaces. The furnishings need to be carefully designed and compact to make the most of the available space, such as a bench that can be converted into a bed. These mini interiors investigate the possibility of providing a better setting for everyday living based on what is necessary, what is desired, and what is possible.

From the content:

_Opod Tube Housing in Hong Kong, China (James Law Cybertecture)
_Riviera Cabin in La Spezia, Italy (llabb)
_The Yays – Crane Apartment in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (Studio Edward van Vliet)
_Bazillion in Vilnius, Lithuania (YCL studio)
_Cornelia Tiny House in Malibu, CA, USA (New Frontier Tiny Homes)

Fascinating interior design solutions for the smallest living spaces.

With well-thought-out planning, cleverly organized floor plans, as well as intelligent and compact furniture concepts, a great amount of space can be created in very small apartments and houses. The limited floor area promotes a focus on the essentials, which can make life at home easier, more comfortable, and, of course, more economical. All selected projects investigate the possibilities of optimizing limited settings based on what is necessary, what is desired, and what is possible.

In Yugoslavia’s “Third Way” architecture, Brutalism meets the fantastical

Squeezed between the two rival Cold War blocs, Yugoslav architecture consistently adhered to a modernist trajectory. As a founding nation of the Non-Aligned Movement, Yugoslavia became a major exporter of modernist architecture to Africa and the Middle East in a postcolonial world. By merging a variety of local traditions and contemporary international influences in the context of a unique Yugoslav brand of socialism, often described as the “Third Way,” local architects produced a veritable “parallel universe” of modern architecture during the 45 years of the country’s existence. This remarkable body of work has sparked recurrent international interest, yet a rigorous interpretative study never materialized in the United States until now.

Published in conjunction with a major exhibition on the architectural production of Yugoslavia between 1948 and 1980, this is the first publication to showcase an understudied but important body of modernist architecture. Featuring new scholarship and previously unpublished archival materials, this richly illustrated publication sheds light on key ideological concepts of Yugoslav architecture, urbanism and society by delving into the exceptional projects and key figures of the era, among them Bogdan Bogdanovic, Zoran Bojovic, Drago Galic, Janko Konstantinov, Georgi Konstantinovski, Niko Kralj, Boris Magaš, Juraj Neidhardt, Jože Plecnik, Svetlana Kana Radevic, Edvard Ravnikar, Vjenceslav Richter, Milica Šteric, Ivan Štraus and Zlatko Ugljen.

Jacques Moulin, Yves Carlier, Francis Hammond

Издательство: Flammarion

Exceptional new photography brings readers behind the scenes of the Trianons and Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet at Versailles ― including areas usually closed to the public.

Life in the Château de Versailles was dense with pomp and circumstance, and the royals often craved a quiet moment with friends and lovers far from the din of the court. Hidden away from the palace on the grounds nearby, the kings built the Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, and the Queen’s Hamlet, where they could slip away to entertain their inner circle. This book explores every aspect of life at these private outbuildings, from the furnishings and gardens to the history and inhabitants.

In 1687, Sun King Louis XIV conceived of the Grand Trianon and its exceptional parterres and fountains as a seamless link between court and garden ― a private retreat where he could withdraw with his family and escape the heavy hand of protocol. Louis XV commissioned the Petit Trianon, a neoclassical masterpiece with four unique facades, and its famous menagerie and botanical gardens. Louis XVI bestowed the Petit Trianon on Marie Antoinette; in her gardens and picturesque hamlet and farm, the queen’s presence is more tangible here than anywhere else at Versailles.

This handsome volume with newly commissioned photography is both a historical testimony and an intimate visit on the grounds of the palace of Versailles.

About the Author:

Jacques Moulin is the chief architect for numerous French heritage sites, including Versailles. Francis Hammond has contributed to many books, including Versailles: A Private Invitation, Historic Houses of Paris, and A Day at Versailles. Yves Carlier, general curator at Versailles and specialist in sixteenth- to nineteenth-century French decorative arts and design, wrote A Day at Versailles.

Henry Bourne, Robin Muir, Pilar Viladas, Jane Withers
ID: 17259
Издательство: Rizzoli

Henry Bourne’s photographs of the residences and workspaces of a who’s who of creative people open windows onto the groundbreaking design approaches and trends of the last three decades.

For nearly thirty years, Bourne has been photographing the residences and studios of, or those designed by, some of the world’s most important artists, architects, designers, and innovators. Culture and society are constantly evolving, and changes, both aesthetic and sociological, are reflected in our physical surroundings. Spaces and portraits in this volume range from the Upstate New York studio of artist Richard Prince, Vincent Van Duysen’s early apartment in Antwerp, and Marc Newson’s residences (his modern former bachelor pad as well as the more textured apartment he shares with Charlotte Stockdale today) to the joyfully chaotic London atelier of artist Paula Rego, the Villa Volpi by architect Tomaso Buzzi near Rome, the London studio of artists Tim Noble and Sue Webster— before and after its sleek renovation, designed by architect David Adjaye.

Creative director Peter Saville’s sleek London apartment captures the essence of the 1990s, while the homes of both architect Zaha Hadid and minimalist master John Pawson are self-portraits in design. This book is a collection of mainly personal spaces and portraits of luminaries at the turn of the twenty-first century, depicting the contradictory yet stimulating language of contemporary design: stylish and functional, maximalist and minimalist, opulent and understated.

About the Authors:

Henry Bourne is a photographer known for his work in portraiture, architecture, and still life. He is a regular contributor to numerous publications including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, T: The New York Times Style Magazine and The World of Interiors.

Robin Muir is a photographic historian, curator, and a contributing editor at British Vogue.

Pilar Viladas is a design writer, editor, and consultant. She has worked at T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Architectural Digest, and other magazines.
