An extravagant monument to a unique collaboration in the worlds of art and fashion: the Autumn-Winter 2022 collection of the luxury brand AMIRI, created in partnership with the painter Wes Lang.

Rooted in the culture of Los Angeles — the place both designer and artist call home — AMIRI’s Autumn-Winter 2022 collection is an exploration of the city’s aesthetic heritage. Mixing high with low, extravagance with subtlety, the collection reflects the intersection of worlds — rock, skate, luxe, craft, art, glam — that defines Los Angeles style. Throughout the collection, Wes Lang’s painterly interventions introduce elements of subversion and energy to AMIRI’s pieces.

The book meticulously documents the creative process, from the design of key silhouettes to the hand-painting of original works onto individual garments. Hundreds of photographs, taken specially for the book by the artist duo Hart Lëshkina, go behind the scenes in AMIRI’s atelier and Lang’s studio, revealing the collection’s evolution from sketches to clothing and finally to the star-studded runway show, cinematically illuminated with Lang’s artwork, at which the line debuted in the spring of 2022.

About the Author:

Mike Amiri is the founder and creative director for his eponymous AMIRI label, based in Los Angeles. Wes Lang is a painter and sculptor living and working in Los Angeles. Hart Lëshkina are a Los Angeles–based interdisciplinary artist duo working within the fields of art, fashion, and advertising. Dan Thawley is a journalist whose writing has appeared in journals from Vogue to Wallpaper, and the editor in chief of A Magazine Curated By. Andrew Berardini is a writer, art critic, and curator based in Los Angeles.

About the Authors

Amy Herzog is the author of Knit Wear Love and Knit to Flatter and the creator of the Fit to Flatter online series. She teaches courses on Craftsy and in yarn shops countrywide and her sweater designs have been featured in Twist Collective, Knitscene, Interweave Knits, Knitty, and more. She lives in Connecticut.

When law student Atey Ghailan realized that he was doing more sketching than note-taking in class, he decided to pursue a career in art. Atey has written a book that showcases his best and most fascinating work, with details from behind the scenes of his experiences in the art industry so far. Atey’s artistic journey, from doodling in class to Senior Illustrator at Riot Games, California is central to the book. About the Author:

Atey Ghailan is concept artist and illustrator based in Los Angeles, California, where he works full-time for the video games developer and publisher Riot Games. He grew up in Sweden, eventually moving to the US where he worked as a freelance illustrator and concept artist. Atey’s influences include Japanese art and anime films, and animated cartoons. His art is atmospheric, bright, and evocative, filled with warmth and nostalgic lighting.

This book is a tool kit to create new forms. It deals with grid-based design and gives the reader techniques to develop new forms, fonts, logos, and patterns. The concept represents a design process in which individual decisions follow much larger and deeper principles than immediate and spontaneous-intuitive actions.

About the Author:

Christoph Grünberger (*1975) is a German illustrator and designer. He is active in the fields of corporate, interactive and spatial design, with a strong focus on exploring the limits of interaction and desktop applications. Together with Stefan Gandl he is co-author of the book Neubau Modul and collaborated on the exhibition NeubauIsm at gallery MU (Eindhoven/NL) in 2008, which was opened by Wim Crouwel. For the video installation Wutbürger, a co-operation with Andreas Lutz, he received the excellence Award in the Art section at the Japan Media Arts Festival in Toyko in 2015. His works as a freelance designer have been awarded nationally and internationally.

At various times Lowe owned salons on Madison Avenue. She made Jackie Kennedy’s wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses, but, upon arrival at the Auchincloss estate on the big day, the butler directed Lowe to enter via the service entrance (she refused). Throughout her lifetime (c. 1898–1981), her major contributions to American style were unrecognized.
