Fascinated by Buddhist art and Asian spirituality, Alain Bordier has spent more than forty years building a unique collection of religious objects from the Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan). About the Authors:

An illustrator renowned for his robotic, metallic and erotic depiction of women, Sorayama is highly regarded by many hardcore fans around the world. He is perhaps more widely known for the original Sony AIBO design and the cover art of Aerosmith’s album “Just Push Play”.

A mysterious masked illustrator who began his career designing flyers and album covers in the Japanese indie garage punk scene, Rockin’ Jelly Bean flew to US in 1996 and gained popularity among the Lowbrow art community working with artists such as COOP and KOZIK. His is also well-known for creating artwork for the German film “Killer Condom” (Kondom des Grauens). His psychedelic American-style pinups have won him many cult fans.

Katsuya Terada, a.k.a. Rakugakingu (Doodle King) is a Japanese illustrator who is well known in the US from his work related to Ironman and Hellboy. He likes to doodle a little everywhere he goes and has done many live drawings on walls. His drawing style is heavily influenced by Moebius and Katsuhiro Otomo. He is a versatile genius and has worked in many fields ranging from manga and anime to live-action film and character design. His notable works for character design are Blood: The Last Vampire and Virtua Fighter.

The vital practice of Hayv Kahraman produces ethereal figures relating to each other in complex grounds. This art book showcases depictions of hell in Japanese art from the 12th century to the 19th century.

The single-volume collection focuses primarily on works designated as Japanese National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties and features the various depictions of hell by prominent artists such as Kazunobu Kano, Nichosai, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka and Kyosai Kawanabe. Presented in a style as stunning as the prints it celebrates, this survey of Hiroshige tells the fascinating story of the last great practitioner of ukiyo-e, or "pictures of the floating world." Hiroshige is considered to be the tradition's most poetic artist and his work had a marked influence on Western painting towards the end of the 19th century.

Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, and James Whistler were inspired by Hiroshige's serene depictions of the natural world. Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji and the three volumes of his subsequent One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji show his fascination with a single motif: Mount Fuji. Hokusai's near-obsession with Fuji was part of his hankering after artistic immortality – in Buddhist and Daoist tradition, Fuji was thought to hold the secret to eternal life, as one popular interpretation of its name suggests: 'Fu-shi' ('not death'). Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji was produced from c. 1830 to 1832 when Hokusai was in his seventies and at the height of his career. Among the prints are three of the artist's most famous: The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Fine Wind, Clear Morning and Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit. By the time he created his second great tribute to Mount Fuji, three volumes comprising One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, he was using the artist names Gakyo rojin ('Old Man Crazy to Paint'), and Manji ('Ten Thousand Things', or 'Everything').
