Fascinated by Buddhist art and Asian spirituality, Alain Bordier has spent more than forty years building a unique collection of religious objects from the Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan). An illustrator renowned for his robotic, metallic and erotic depiction of women, Sorayama is highly regarded by many hardcore fans around the world. He has worked with many notable companies such as Nike, Disney, Lucas Film, Marvel, Samsung and Darkstar skateboards. He is perhaps more widely known for the original Sony AIBO design and the cover art of Aerosmith’s album “Just Push Play”.

A mysterious masked illustrator who began his career designing flyers and album covers in the Japanese indie garage punk scene, Rockin’ Jelly Bean flew to US in 1996 and gained popularity among the Lowbrow art community working with artists such as COOP and KOZIK. His is also well-known for creating artwork for the German film “Killer Condom” (Kondom des Grauens). His psychedelic American-style pinups have won him many cult fans.

Katsuya Terada, a.k.a. Rakugakingu (Doodle King) is a Japanese illustrator who is well known in the US from his work related to Ironman and Hellboy. He likes to doodle a little everywhere he goes and has done many live drawings on walls. His drawing style is heavily influenced by Moebius and Katsuhiro Otomo. He is a versatile genius and has worked in many fields ranging from manga and anime to live-action film and character design. His notable works for character design are Blood: The Last Vampire and Virtua Fighter.

The first monograph on Iraqi artist Hayv Kahraman surveys her figurative work, which mines the marginal space that pertains to diasporic peoples, collective and personal memory, and gender.

The vital practice of Hayv Kahraman produces ethereal figures relating to each other in complex grounds. Hokusai (1760–1849) was an extraordinarily prolific Japanese master artist and printmaker of the ukiyo-e (‘pictures of the floating world’) genre. More than 150 years after his death, his legacy remains as important as any Western painter’s. His work inspired a roll-call of great artists including Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Gauguin, Manet, Degas and Klimt as well as craftsmen and architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright.

A wonderfully illustrated exploration of one of Hokusai's key motifs: Mount Fuji.

Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji and the three volumes of his subsequent One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji show his fascination with a single motif: Mount Fuji. Hokusai's near-obsession with Fuji was part of his hankering after artistic immortality – in Buddhist and Daoist tradition, Fuji was thought to hold the secret to eternal life, as one popular interpretation of its name suggests: 'Fu-shi' ('not death'). Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji was produced from c. 1830 to 1832 when Hokusai was in his seventies and at the height of his career. Among the prints are three of the artist's most famous: The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Fine Wind, Clear Morning and Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit. By the time he created his second great tribute to Mount Fuji, three volumes comprising One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, he was using the artist names Gakyo rojin ('Old Man Crazy to Paint'), and Manji ('Ten Thousand Things', or 'Everything'). Contrasting the mountain's steadfastness and solidity with the ravages of the surrounding elements, Hokusai depicts Fuji through different seasons, weather conditions and settings, and in so doing communicates an important message: while life changes, Fuji stands still.
