Peter Marino, with an introduction by Pilar Viladas and additional texts by Sam Lubell
ID: 18381
Издательство: Phaidon

An exclusive look inside world-renowned architect Peter Marino’s private, residential projects

In this stunning new collection, internationally acclaimed architect Peter Marino shares a look inside his private, residential projects. In contrast to the architecture and design for his luxury commercial clients – including Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co. – the residences featured are ones where Marino was allowed almost unlimited creative freedom in both the architectural planning and interior design.

Through ten chapters (nine completed residences and a tenth chapter of in-progress houses) with more than 200 images, this book provides a behind-the-scenes look into Marino’s remarkable range of work across the globe with residences in: Southampton and Sagaponack, New York; Aspen, Colorado; Miami, Florida; Summerlin, Nevada; Malibu, California; Faqra, Lebanon; the Dominican Republic; Ramatuelle and St. Barts, France; Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos; and Skorpios, Greece. This is the first book on Peter Marino’s residential architecture, and readers can gain insight into his practice and approach to residential design through a preface by Marino himself, an introduction by Pilar Viladas, and profiles of each residence by Sam Lubell.

Pharmacies constitute a special form of commercial architecture. The market for medicines, which is heavily regulated in most countries, has led to a veritable competition of the atmosphere of space: since where product and price can no longer provide a competitive advantage, customer loyalty must be created with other means. In addition to professional competence and familiarity with the customers, that becomes above all the ambiance. That in turn translates to the modern and hygienic pharmacy, together with a friendly and assuring spatial experience. The selected examples show the design sophistication with which pharmacies today, from a functional as well as atmospheric standpoint, set themselves apart from the historical chemists shelves and the competitors.

From the content:

- Oaza Zdravlja Pharmacy in Belgrade, Serbia (Karim Rashid)
- Pharmacy Teles in Lourosa, Portugal (Plaren)
- DocMorris Apotheke in Limburg, Deutschland (Klaus Bürger Architektur)
- ATC Pharmacy in Kuwait City (Sartoretto Verna)
- Plantation Pharmacy in Charleston, USA (Christoph Rose Architects)

Pharmacies are a special kind of store, because nothing is as important as health. The tightly regulated medicine market is changing, and pharmacists face more and more competition from other healthcare providers as well as within their own profession. As products and priced are generally standardized, pharmacists must win customer loyalty in other ways. In addition to professional competence, friendliness, and an extended range of products and services, the atmosphere of the pharmacy itself takes on a crucial role.

This places particular importance on the interior design, since that is what sets the tone of the consumer experience. This volume presents 75 projects which demonstrate the creative finesse of the pharmacists, architects and designers who face these challenges. The selection includes projects by renowned specialists as well as top designers, who each approach this special design task from different perspectives.

Choreographies of Light

Pitsou Kedem’s spatial arrangements evoke a continuing shift of perspective: A recurring element of the Tel Aviv architect’s buildings is the impressive double-height living room that creates a connection between levels. Guided by fundamental principles of minimalism, the studio was involved in a constant pursuit of purity in order to reveal the essence of a space. After years of simplifying materials to the extent of avoiding all distractions, the architects began to add layers of materials as well as spatial layers. This comprehensive publication retraces the past 20 years of the Studio’s practice. Alongside a photographic archive of its built history in Israel, it features Kedem’s drawings and studies of light perforations from his time at the AA School of Architecture, highlighting his fascination for light as the characterizing element that is at the core of his architectural language.

About the Author:

Pitsou Kedem Architects Studio was founded by Pitsou Kedem (*1970) after graduating from the AA Architectural Association School of Architecture in 2000. Operating for two decades, the studio has planned many projects in Israel, and more recently around the world, often characterized by a contrast between simple and clean outward masses, and complex and rich internal sections.

Published in association with the V&A, a comprehensive history of plywood, from its use in 18th-century furniture to its popularity in the digital age

Plywood is an astonishingly versatile material, made by gluing together layers of cross-grained veneers, creating a pliable board that can be stronger than solid wood. Stylish and practical, plywood offers huge possibilities for experimental design, and it has been used to make a wide range of products, from aeroplanes, boats and automobiles to architecture and furniture. This book traces the history of plywood from its use in 18th-century furniture, through its emergence as an industrial product in the 19th century, to a material celebrated by 20th-century modernists such as Alvar Aalto and Charles and Ray Eames. An ideal material for the digital age, plywood has become popular again in recent years and is widely used in contemporary design and manufacture.

Produced to accompany an exhibition at the V&A, this book is the first comprehensive study of the history of plywood and its myriad applications throughout the ages, unveiling the stories behind objects that surround us and that we often take for granted.
