After the Fall. Architecture in a new Economic Climate

TASCHEN's Architecture Now! 7 features an arching overview of today's architecture, from modern to radically avant-garde. As with previous books in the series, Architecture Now! 7 includes a broad variety of projects from around the world, as well as some works of art that have a direct relation to architecture, from the likes of Giacomo Costa or Shinro Ohtake. It also explores how the recent economic downturn has led to fewer large-scale projects but has also stimulated creative thinking, as architects find new ways to work imaginatively inside budget constraints. Large-scale works include the futuristic Chinese Central TV Tower in Beijing (OMA) and the Burj Khalifa (SOM), the world's tallest tower and centerpiece of the Gulf region's most prestigious urban development to date.

For anyone interested in the zeitgeist and building design in the 21st century, Architecture Now! 7 is an essential work of reference. Easy-to-navigate illustrated A–Z entries include current and recent projects, biographies, contact information, and websites.

Open house. Tour the world's most exceptional recent homes

The third instalment in our popular Architecture Now! Houses series includes 60 of the most dramatic new residences around the world. See the extraordinary House Turtle designed by the artists Carsten Höller and Marcel Odenbach in Biriwa, Ghana; visit Tadao Ando’s dramatic House in Monterrey, Mexico, or take off to see the Flight of Birds House in the Azores by Bernardo Rodrigues. Open the door into these private worlds, designed by some of the most talented architects of the moment. But even if the budget for such extravagance is lacking, curiosity will surely see you delving into Architecture Now! Houses 3.

Richard Ross (Photographer)

For the past several years - and with seemingly limitless access - photographer Richard Ross has been making unsettling and thought-provoking pictures of architectural spaces that exert power over the individuals within them. From a Montessori preschool to churches, mosques and diverse civic spaces including a Swedish courtroom, the Iraqi National Assembly hall and the United Nations, the images in Architecture of Authority build to ever harsher manifestations of power: an interrogation room at Guantanamo, segregation cells at Abu Ghraib, and finally, a capital punishment death chamber.Though visually cool, this work deals with hot-button issues - from the surveillance that increasingly intrudes on post-9/11 life to the abuse of power and the erosion of individual liberty. The connections among the various architectures are striking, as Ross points out: "The Santa Barbara Mission confessional and the LAPD robbery homicide interrogation rooms are the same intimate proportions. Both are made to solicit a confession in exchange for some form of redemption.

Monsa (Editor)
ID: 4807
Видавництво: Monsa

This book is an extraordinary collection of exciting and diverse architectural sustainable projects. Monsa explores the critical line between how we built and the natural environment with a combination of sustainable star architects and heretofore unknown practitioners. Basically, sustainable design means being smart about how we use the energy, water and construction materials in order to be successful in comfort and without being unnecessarily harmful with the environment and, of course, the contem-porary view of modern architecture.

The process of creating good sustainable architec-ture is about thinking better buildings that are easier on the environment, with green materials, less expensive over the long term and more enjoyable to use.

Green & Sustainable teaches us that when the creative processes are used in combination with social, cultural and environmental systems, modern architecture meets without hesitation the artistic and sensible necessities of present days without compromising the requirements of our future generations. A perfect read and an essential reference for anyone interested in how the architecture and design aesthetic connects with environmental sustainability.
