Divine the future with the ancient forgotten gods of Lovecraft with the Cthulhu Dark Arts Tarot box set.

Established by H.P. Lovecraft in the span of a few short stories, the Cthulhu Mythos has been incorporated into popular culture and contemporary fantasy production, including HBO’s hit series Lovecraft Country. Made by connoisseurs and lovers of Lovecraft, including scholar Maxime Le Dain, Abrams is honored to present the first tarot deck solely dedicated to this special universe.

This complete tarot contains 78 illustrated cards, including 22 major and 56 minor arcana.
All decks will be packaged with a 32-page booklet that will help with the interpretation of each card.
The illustrations of the Cthulhu Dark Arts Tarot were made by Førtifem. First entirely drawn by hand, each illustration was scanned and then colored using a computer. To ensure that the finished product honors the quality of the illustrations, as well as the greatness of the Cthulhu Mythos, they are printed on high-quality paper.

The format (3.35" x 6.50") chosen for this Cthulhu Mythos–inspired tarot is much larger than the usual divinatory tarot decks, including the Tarot of Marseille. This format is close to one of the oldest tarot decks, the “Visconti-Sforza” created by the artist Bonifacio Bembo between 1428 and 1447.

About the Authors:

Maxime Le Dain is a highly regarded and world-renowned scholar of the Lovecraft mythos. Førtifem is design/illustration duo Adrian Havet and Jesse Daubertes, whose graphics have been employed by Rammstein, Slipknot, Trivium, HBO, and Cartier. Adrien Havet and Jesse Daubertes started their careers as graphic designers before combining forces — and a shared love of illustration — under the name Førtifem.

Since 2012, they have developed a four-handed style that borrows from the strength of tattoo lines, as well as from the meticulousness of old engravings. Lovers of extreme music, they share their time between creating visuals for bands (Rammstein, Slipknot, Trivium, Emperor, Alcest, Carpenter Brut) and for books and brands (HBO, Ubisoft, Cartier, Affligem, Le Monde). Their personal drawings have been exhibited in Paris, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. They are based in Paris and work from home.

A hilarious, cannabis-fueled parody of fine art in a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.

Here Petrus Christus's A Goldsmith in his Shop is reimagined as if the artist and his subjects had been enjoying a toke, with the shopkeeper peddling something even more valuable than gold. It's a subversive wink in puzzle form: Inhale the art and exhale the stresses of the day!

Make simple and fun paper craft models with this easy origami book and paper kit.

The ancient art of origami originated in Japan, where it is steeped in traditional values. The 20 models presented in this kit include many with strong symbolic meanings, such as the carp, the frog and the crane, which symbolize longevity, good luck and perseverance. Also included in this kit are paper models which have practical uses, such as a bag in which to store spices or powdered medications, the masu box for containing small gifts, and uniquely shaped notes with elaborate closures. The more playful side of origami is represented as well: the stylized sumo wrestler with realistic moves has entertained Japanese children for centuries, and the paper Samurai hat is fun to play with.

Origami is an ideal activity for children since paper folding develops dexterity and creativity. Origami is also a craft based on a few fundamental 3D folding techniques, so Japanese Origami for Beginners Kit is a useful starting point for fans of all ages and abilities. Although this book is aimed at origami beginners, it contains projects suitable for origami fans of all ages and abilities and is the perfect book for all those who enjoy making things with their hands.

This book opens with an illustrated history of origami that highlights the masters and evolution of this pastime and art form up until the present day. A glossary of important origami folding symbols shows you how to follow the diagrams, which are commonly used to indicate how to fold origami models. Easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions follow for each of the 20 models. For those who prefer to see the models folded, this kit includes complete video instructions on a free DVD. It also has 72 high-quality origami folding papers, all decorated with a wide selection of traditional Japanese designs and patterns.

All of the folds are simple enough to be origami-for-kids projects and are a great way to learn origami. None of the projects require paint or glue; so just grab the included origami paper and start folding right away!

This memory game offers a stunning look at contemporary collage work from 30 artists and features a breathtaking mix of techniques. The styles range from wildly playful and colorful to vintage looking collages.

Find two matching cards of the same artist which can be recognised by the same style in collage art.

Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.

Collage art allowed artists to engage with existing materials, to which they could assign new contexts in order to create a brand new artwork. Ranging from newspapers and magazines to maps, tickets, propaganda, photographs, ribbons, postage stamps, paint, text and found objects, the elements of Collage participate in a handy creative process of putting artworks together and even breaking them apart, in an artistic exploration unto the unknown.

The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty.

The Magician, Death, and the Moon. Surrealism meets Symbolism in Salvador Dalí’s tarot deck

Dalí poses as the Magician, his wife Gala becomes the Empress, and the death of Julius Caesar is reinterpreted as the Ten of Swords in the artist’s extraordinary custom tarot deck. First published in a 1984 limited edition that has since long sold out, this lush box set brings back all 78 cards, each dazzling in color, along with a companion book on the making-of and practical instructions.

Legend has it that when preparing props for the James Bond film Live and Let Die, producer Albert Broccoli commissioned Surrealist maestro Salvador Dalí to create a custom deck of tarot cards. Inspired by his wife Gala, who nurtured his interest in mysticism, Dalí eagerly got to work, and continued the project of his own accord when the contractual deal fell through.

The work was published in a limited art edition in 1984 that has since long sold out, making Dalí the first renowned painter to create a completely new set of cards. Drawing on Western masterpieces from antiquity to modernity (including some of his own), Dalí seamlessly combined his knowledge of the arcane with his unmistakable wit. The result is a surreal kaleidoscope of European art history.

TASCHEN resurrects all 78 cards in a fresh celebration of Dalí’s inimitable custom set, complete with a booklet by renowned German tarot author Johannes Fiebig offering:

- an introduction to Dalí’s life and the project’s making-of
- a comprehensive explanation of each card’s composition, its meaning, and practical advice
- step-by-step instructions on how to perform readings
- a jargon-free approach simplifying tarot for the newcomer

The author:

Johannes Fiebig, born in Cologne in 1953, is one of the most successful authors on Tarot and a leading expert of the psychological interpretation of symbols and oracles. His main field of interest focuses on the use of Tarot and other symbolic languages as humanistic, psychological tools.
