Alberto Pinto is among the most celebrated interior designers at work today.

Here he turns his eye to the wonders of the East and a series of interiors inspired by the colors and textures of Morocco, Byzantium, India, and beyond. Included in this book are interiors in Europe, North America, and North Africa belonging to the jet set and modern elite. Each interior celebrates opulence, whether with fine damasks and silks, intricate tilework, or glittering objets dart.

Included are other visual stage sets for living that are as breathtaking as they are original-vast terraces over sumptuous gardens, shimmering swimming pools open to the sea and sky, filtered light bouncing off floor-to-ceiling mirrors reflecting an infinity of precious woods in an exquisite parquet floor. Pinto designs spaces to delight the senses, and the publication of Orientalism will usher in a new era of sensuality in interior design

This volume throws light upon an art expression to be found clad in the garments of Moroccan architecture. This work provides keys to the understanding of geometrical arabesques. This art of a rare and precious mastery was elaborated through the determined efforts of generations of anonymous artists. A brief historical survey defines the specificity of Islamic art in Morocco.

Three principal styles of decorative architecture are studied: calligraphy, floral arabesque, and geometrical arabesque. Illustrations and photographs of some of the most beautiful sites of Morocco (monuments, royal palaces and cities) are a pleasure for the eye.

This book shows the progression of Interior Design of the Arabian countries. In contrast to many countries modeled according to the Western traditions, the Arabian culture is closely tied to religious and social values. The current discussion regarding contemporary architecture broaches the subject of the importance of tradition and deals with the Arabian identity. The architects have various viewpoints on the subject: Besides those who represent an international and global architectural language, there are also numerous planners that incorporate historical elements such as arches, domes and columns into their designs and interpret them in a contemporary fashion. Arabian Design presents the projects of renowned offices and young architects and shows the exciting process, in which a new, modern presence is developing out of tradition and ideas for the future are resulting. all projects are listed in alphabetic order of the designers and architects. Plans of the projects are shown as far as available. An index of contact information of the designer and architects is enclosed.

Great Leap Forward: Contemporary Architecture in China

The past five years have seen a revolution in Chinese architecture - the emergence of independent designers, and a number of new stars - and above all new and interesting buildings that are not the product of direct Western influence. These developments have laid the groundwork for indigenous modernity that differentiates itself from outside schools as well as eschewing the temptation to put a "Chinese-style" roof on ordinary office blocks. The fact that Beijing has been chosen to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games has been more than a catalyst for the development of high-quality contemporary architecture in China. Major foreign firms like OMA/Rem Koolhaas or Herzog & de Meuron are participating in the design of buildings that will have functions during the Games, but Chinese architects, too, have been mobilized in this massive effort to prepare the country for an unprecedented level of worldwide attention.

Architects featured: Atelier Deshaus, FCJZ Atelier Feichang Jianzhu, AZL Atelier Zhanglei, EDGE Design Institute, Fake Design, Herzog & de Meuron, HHF Architects, Arata Isozaki, Jiakun Architects, Kengo Kuma, Li Xiaodong Atelier, MAD, MADA s.p.a.m., Michael Maltzan, Toshiko Mori, NODE – Architecture, OMA/Rem Koolhaas, Pei Zhu, URBANUS Architecture & Design, Wang Hui, Zhu Xiaofeng/Scenic Architecture

A great part of the history of Morocco relates to tradition, ranging from oral culture to architecture, including various arts illumination, calligraphy, sculpture, tattooing..., - and crafts cabinet-making, ironwork, pottery, weaving, gold work...-; a tradition which handed down from one generation to the next satisfies the aspirations of each period, while embracing the opposition between ancient and modern . It should be said that Moroccan art, by gradually developing its forms and materials, became a model, therefore avoiding the tradition/modernity opposition as well as the era of simulation.

Nowadays there is hardly an interior design publication which does not contain at least one article on Feng Shui, the one-thousand-year-old Chinese tradition of the harmonious arrangement of sacred buildings, graves, palaces and streets.

The universal value systems of Buddhism and Zen and the principles these involve, such as an affinity with nature and life energy, have left a deep impression on Western lifestyle and have had an important influence on today's trends in design and architecture.

This volume attempts, with its selection of particularly interesting and concise examples, to present the inexhaustible variety of Asian living and lifestyles.

This is a sweeping portrait of China, its people, and its history since 1949. It is presented as seen by China's most prominent photographers and edited by Pulitzer-winning photojournalist Liu Heung Shing. This book brings together a vast selection of images by Chinese photographers since 1949, giving readers a visual journey across the great People's Republic; edited by esteemed photojournalist Liu Heung Shing, longtime "Associated Press" correspondent and "Time" magazine contributor. In post-Mao China, late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping urged his one billion countrymen to "seek truth from facts." Taking its cue from Deng's overture, China today is the leading economic story of the 21st century. The process by which China navigated the path from periphery to a central position in world affairs dominates the debate about Asia and China's relationship to the western world. Pulitzer-winning photojournalist Liu Heung Shing charts the visual history of sixty years of the People's Republic (1949 to 2008), and along the way aims to illustrate its humanistic course. Via work by 88 Chinese photographers, this collection of images shows how the Chinese people have blossomed in spite of enduring previous decades of extraordinary hardship. When China opened the curtain at the summer Olympics in 2008 and the world's focus fell upon Beijing, these photographs served to map out the remarkable road the Chinese had travelled to rejoin the rest of the world. To help place the images in context, also included is a chronology listing all the major political events in China.

Bridges, the least known and understood of China's many wonders, are one of its most striking and resilient feats of architectural prowess. Chinese Bridges brings together a thorough look at these marvels from one of the world's leading experts on Chinese culture and historical geography, Ronald G. Knapp.
While many consider bridges to be merely utilitarian, the bridges of China move beyond that stereotype, as many are undeniably dramatic, even majestic and daring. Chinese Bridges illustrates in detail 20 well-preserved ancient bridges, along with descriptions and essays on the distinctive architectural elements shared by the various designs. For the first time in an English-language book, Chinese Bridges records scores of newly discovered bridges across China's vast landscape, illustrated with over 400 color photographs, as well as woodblock prints, historic images, paintings and line drawings

Ronald G. Knapp has been carrying out research on cultural and historical geography in China's countryside since 1965. Currently SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York, New Paltz, he is the author or contributing editor of more than a dozen books, including the award-winning Chinese Houses: The Architectural Heritage of a Nation.

A. Chester Ong, born in the Philippines and currently based in Hong Kong, has photographed widely throughout Asia. His photography appears in magazines, exhibitions, as well as books, including China Modern, Chinese Houses and China Living.
