You are your stuff! This book is about embracing everything you own and showing it off on your walls. Whatever your taste, it's about celebrating the beautiful, the eccentric, the simple. In a world where trends and styles are dictated to us, Sarah Bagner, better known as Supermarket Sarah, encourages readers to believe in their own styles and ideas. Here Sarah travels the globe, visiting cosmopolitan locations in Tokyo, London and Stockholm, offering up inspiration and variety as she illustrates novel ways in which people use their own walls to display themselves and their "treasures." She visits the homes and studios of designers and collectors, viewing the displays of minimalists and hoarders. The walls range from the quirky to the romantic, from vintage to brand new. Whatever is displayed, and however it is displayed, everything has a meaning for its owner. From collections of supermarket receipts, records and toys, to chandeliers and antlers, whatever it may be, Sarah loves a story. Items only have the value that you put on them and Wonder Walls explores the ideas and thoughts behind people's objects and why these objects, when adorning a wall, help us discover ourselves. The walls featured here are all revealing, amusing and thought-provoking, and will inspire you to look at your own collections with a fresh eye.

Nature's greatest resource. Modern wood architecture from Tierra del Fuego to North Cape

Wood is renewable and sustainable, solid and attractive. Wood can be bent and shaped to the most modern of designs. It is the material of the moment for contemporary architecture and this new volume allows readers to get a glimpse of the most exciting and dynamic new uses of wood in architecture from all over the world. Like earthen architecture, the use of wood is almost as ancient as building itself. The columns of Greek temples are stylized trees. Today’s wooden buildings do all kinds of surprising things, and most of all, they are as “green” as they come.

In modern architecture, wood plays an especially central role, and the significance of this wonderfully diverse raw material in the design of sophisticated buildings and interiors continues to increase. New materials and innovative processing techniques enable the production of absolutely precise wood building materials that possess considerably improved technical and optical charasteristics. Consequently, the expanded application spectrum allows the manufacture of extremely intricate construction as well as solid components in uprecedented dimensions. Its employment in interior decorating is just as feasible as its function as a weatherproofing facade skin. Its appearance can be rough and raw, but also sophisticated and clean. It allows a sensual perception that turns almost all nuances, from harsh, almost cool, to warm and cozy, into perceptible experience. This bookpresents remarkable objects from the realm of private living space, public buildings and religious structures. Along with well-designed hotels, restaurants and bars, they form the latest currents of a modern international wood-building culture.

Timber housing has always been found in areas that have forests, but as a material, wood is no longer the reserve of log cabins or other vernacular dwellings. Today's wood houses are found not only in the woods but also in the city, and housing types range from the traditional to the experimental. Wood Houses celebrates this diversity. In the introduction, the author explores a number of important themes, such as the development of vernacular traditions in timber housing, timber frame construction, environmental benefits and concerns associated with the material, use of wood in an urban setting and fire prevention. The book is then divided into five themed chapters. Projects from around the world, selected because they exemplify innovative uses of this popular material, are illustrated with photographs and architectural drawings.

Wood has been a traditional construction material for centuries all over the world, as it still is in many places today.

Now there is a growing interest in using wood in modern residential architecture. Architects today are drawn to it for a variety of reasons including its sustainability, versatility, economy, and natural beauty. As a result, this environmentally sustainable material is becoming increasingly significant in today's domestic architecture. Wood, intrinsically beautiful in all of its forms, can be used in practically any part of the construction from a heavy structural frame to finely detailed cabinetry, and from flooring to roof shingles.

These volumes document wood used in different buildings and constructions. Each house profile is illustrated with the architect's own plans and elevations and also numerous full color interior and exterior photographs that highlight the natural appeal of wood.

Wood presents a comprehensive survey of international wood architecture highlighting the incredible versatility of this building material and the environmentally friendly possibilities of using it in residential construction and design. Wood as a material evokes alternate images of warm comfort or sleek cool modern design, and its many special characteristics are explored through the selected projects, interiors, and furniture detailed in this book.

Wood provides a unique opportunity to examine contemporary wooden architecture as a global phenomenon rich in cross-cultural influences and universality. It also illustrates the diversity in the use of this material in different climates, cultures, and countries.

The book is divided into four main chapters: a short historical introduction; a compilation of different projects shown as a whole, and typologically catalogued according to the use of wood; a compilation of interior designs, arranged like the different spaces of a house and combined with wood furniture; and a catalogue of the most commonly used woods and their properties.
