Luciano Giubbilei is known for his award-winning gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and for his beautiful and serene garden designs for private houses across the world.
Since 2012 he has been working on an experimental flower bed in the famous garden of Great Dixter in East Sussex, in close collaboration with the Head Gardener, Fergus Garrett. In this elegant new book, Giubbilei explains the development of his style over the last few years, and describes the philosophy by which he works.
The first part of the book explores Giubbilei’s work at Great Dixter across the four seasons. The second part examines his love of craft and traditionally made objects, and – through visits to and discussion with craftsmen in the UK and beyond – considers the contribution such work makes to his garden design.
The final part constitutes a wider investigation of Giubbilei’s influences under the broad themes of water, colour and texture, revealing exactly what it is about the world that inspires him and how that is manifested in his designs, with specific reference to his gardens for the Chelsea Flower Show in 2014 and the Venice Biennale in 2015.
With new photography throughout and full plant lists, this book will appeal to garden lovers everywhere, as well as those seeking a deeper understanding of the creative process behind making a garden.

Human beings have been transforming Mediterranean landscapes into art for at least 30,000 years. Millennia of human negotiations with the land prove that to "tread lightly" on the earth need not be at odds with our interface with nature.
Today's landscape architects, designers, land artists, sculptors, and gardeners are taking inspiration from age-old materials, skills, and sites to produce landscape designs and art that celebrate living in this multifaceted region. All involve a strongly graphic vision of the landscape; are site-generated; and observe the logic of place as determined by climate, geology, flora and fauna, architecture, and land use.
Contemporary landscape designers and land artists from Nicole de V‚sian to Fernando Caruncho, Heidi Gildemeister to Paolo Pejrone, Andy Goldsworthy to Gilles Cl‚ment, and Jacqueline Morabito to Ian Hamilton Finlay are featured.

The latest era of gardens expands margins and displays structured geometrical sectors. New materials including Corten steel or aluminium are used for borders, and emphasis is given to grasses, succulents and bushes instead of flowers and thick foliage.

Made Wijaya has been delighting us with his books and gardens for thirty years. Written in his usual witty style, and with a winning mix of information and inspiration, this book will be seized on by owners and designers of all types of garden around the world.
Wijaya is best known for his romantic Balinese garden designs and for his books and films on the architecture and culture of Bali. His modern gardens in Mumbai, his work with the best modern bungalow architects in Singapore during the 1990s and his design for the Asian Garden section of the Naples Botanical Garden in Florida are highly influential.
Since publication of Wijaya’s book Tropical Garden Design, a new wave of modern gardens has gripped the tropical world – in particular, the tropical Asian world where Wijaya works and lives. This book is a stunning documentation of that new wave and of its historical antecedents.
Wijaya presents the work and design philosophies of the best modern tropical landscape designers over the past century, and dissects the various styles – from Brazilian modern, through Hawaiian to New Asian – that have influenced garden design. He also offers invaluable guidance on practical matters such as water features, pavings, lighting, furniture and artworks.
Having designed over 600 gardens and fifty houses in the tropical world, Made Wijaya is a recognized authority on tropical gardens and architecture. He has written several books, including Tropical Garden Design and Architecture of Bali, both of which were published by Thames & Hudson.
"More Hidden Gardens" tells the story of the restoration of six very different gardens around the UK to their original state. Each garden has its own story to tell - from Croome Park, Laurence "Capability" Brown's first full commission, to Greenway, home to the family of Walter Raleigh and Agatha Christie, to Boveridge Park, designed in the 1920s and now a home to 30 children with extreme learning difficulties. Through archaeology and historical documents, the restorers aim to rediscover the lost beauty and hidden stories of these enchanting gardens. Specially-commissioned photographs chart the progress fo the gardeners as they uncover the original paintings and restore the gardens to their former glory
In the North African land of Morocco, every dar-dwelling, religious institution, or commercial building is organized around an interior, walled courtyard that provides privacy from the bustle of urban streets and an outdoor space for social interaction and tranquil meditation. Over the course of centuries, ornamental schemes have evolved to incorporate not only native plant life but also intricate water features and patterned tile work known as zellij, all of central significance to the Moroccan culture and climate.
Vitally important for providing shade and catching breezes in an arid landscape, Moroccan gardens are designed and cultivated with vibrant color and aromatic plants. Author Achva Benzinberg Stein explores the three main types of gardens — the simple and elegant paved patio form of the ouest ed-dar, the more elaborately planted riyad, and the agdal, an open, cultivated landscape. Striking color photographs, including numerous aerial views, show gardens and courtyards in Marrakech, Fez, and elsewhere.
Rotterdam’s West 8 is not only one of the largest, but also one of the best-known and most active design firms working in Europe today in the field of "urban design and landscape architecture." The phrase suggests the firm’s strongly interdisciplinary orientation between landscape architecture and town planning. Its projects are provocative, avant-garde in the typically Dutch manner, and not afraid of contact with popular culture. They were created in close collaboration with such architects as Richard Rogers, Steven Holl, Dominique Perrault, Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano, and many others. The founder and director of the firm and its most highly visible figure is Adriaan Geuze, who is the author of this book.
Classics such as the Swiss Expo.02 park in Yverdon-les-Bains and Chiswick Park in London stand alongside current projects including Moscow Luxury Village, One North Park in Singapore, the Jubilee Gardens in London and Madrid Rio, the spectacular design for the city centre of the Spanish capital.
