This is the catalogue of the important exhibition dedicated to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo, which focuses on female empowerment in various domains from the 1960s onward.

This catalogue accompanies the exhibition Women in Balance at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence. The project arose as a tribute to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo, who guided the Salvatore Ferragamo company from 1960 until her death in 2018.

The volume aims to tell the story of the women who balanced their roles as mothers and wives with their work during the years of the Italian “economic miracle” and beyond. The story of Wanda Ferragamo’s life is accompanied by the voices of women from diverse fields who embodied their time and helped to shape it.

Focus is placed on women who have been pioneers in their fields (politics, literature, photography, cinema, art, music, business, science, and technology). This catalogue seeks to trigger reflections on gender relations in contemporary society and the balance needed to reconcile women’s private lives with their passions and professional aspirations.

About the Author:

Stefania Ricci studied art history at the University of Florence. She has been the director of Museo Salvatore Ferragamo since 1995 and of Fondazione Ferragamo since March 2013. Elvira Valleri has a degree in humanities and a PhD from the European University. Her research focuses on contemporary history and autobiography and biography from a gender perspective.

Photographs by Cathleen Naundorf, Foreword by Jerome Neutres
ID: 16302
Видавництво: Rizzoli

A spellbinding journey into the world of Chanel haute couture, captured by one of fashion's most acclaimed photographers.

In exclusive shoots with the house of Chanel, photographer Cathleen Naundorf gained rare access to their haute couture collections--which entail thousands of hours of handwork, crafting, and embellishing. The result: a book of ethereal, cinematic photographs of gowns against theatrical backdrops that capture the ensembles' exquisiteness and the magical allure of haute couture. This is what sartorial dreams are made of.

For more than two decades, Naundorf has used her expert photographic skills to pay homage to the haute couture aesthetic. Combining her experiences in travel, art, and photojournalism, Naundorf elaborately arranges each detail of her images using storyboards and extensively researches the lighting for every image. Captured with analogue large-format cameras, each photograph is a singular vision suggesting romance, surrealism, exoticism, and above all else, fantasy.

About the Authors:

Cathleen Naundorf is a fashion and travel photographer whose photographs have been published by Condé Nast and Harper's Bazaar. Her artwork is exhibited internationally, including at Hamiltons Gallery in London, Edwynn Houk Gallery in New York, and Holden Luntz Gallery in Palm Beach. It is featured in the collections of the Musée Rodin, Victoria & Albert Museum, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Jérôme Neutres is the director for strategy and development of the Réunion des Musées Nationaux and the Grand Palais, and the president of the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris. He is the author of essays and books on literature and the arts.

Yohji Yamamoto, contribution by Jean Nouvel and Wim Wenders and Charlotte Rampling and Takeshi Kitano
ID: 12694
Видавництво: Rizzoli

On January 21, 1971, couturier Yves Saint Laurent presented his Spring-Summer haute couture collection. Inspired by the garments of the war years, the collection included short dresses, platform shoes, square shoulders, and exaggerated makeup. The show caused an outrage among the public, the critics, and the press alike, earning it the title of “Paris’s ugliest collection.” Nevertheless, the haute couture designs of the runway made their way to the boulevards, giving full sway to the “retro” trend that quickly conquered the streets.

Yves Saint Laurent: The Scandal Collection, 1971 offers a behind-the-scenes look at the influential collection that “drew fire in the fashion world” — from the collection’s inspiration to the press coverage that followed. Beautifully illustrated and documented with well-researched essays, this book is enriched with personal interviews and archival photographs of the show, the models, the designs, and the textile and print samples, as well as sketches and international press clippings.

About the Authors:

Olivier Saillard is the director of the Palais Galliera, Museum of Fashion, and the curator of the Yves Saint Laurent 1971: The Scandal Collection exhibition.
Dominique Veillon is a historian.

Author Thierry Gillier, Text by Nicole Phelps
ID: 16462
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The first monograph on the contemporary French fashion brand Zadig & Voltaire, published on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

Synonymous with an effortless rock and roll style, Zadig & Voltaire is a Paris-based French fashion brand founded by Thierry Gillier in 1997. With the brand’s name and ethos inspired by the 1747 philosophical novella Zadig, or The Book of Fate, by the French philosopher Voltaire, Gillier seeks to infuse the house with the optimism and modernity that permeates the story. Informed by a modern approach to luxury, the brand’s signature designs blur the boundaries between masculine and feminine, exuding a rebellious spirit and sense of modern cool.

This highly anticipated debut monograph presents Zadig & Voltaire’s history through its most memorable collections, advertising campaigns, and iconic moments. Illustrated with evocative photographs captured by some of the most renowned names in fashion photography, such as Inez & Vinoodh and Olivier Zahm, readers discover the influences and inspirations behind Gillier’s unique vision. Featuring three different types of paper — uncoated for black-and-white photographs; coated for images of design objects; and tipped-in inserts that reproduce the complete text of Zadig across 64 pages, this exceptional piece of bookmaking is a must-have addition to the libraries of fashion aficionados everywhere.

100 Ideas that Changed Fashion chronicles the most influential fashion ideas through which womenswear has evolved, offering a unique and engaging perspective on the subject.

Charting the movements, developments and ideas that transformed the way women dress, the book gives a unique perspective on the history of twentieth-century fashion. But rather than just documenting these changes in fashion, it crucially explains why they happened.

From the invention of the bias cut and the stiletto heel to the designers who changed the way we think about clothes, the book is entertaining, intelligent and a visual feast.

Harriet Worsley studied fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, where today she teaches fashion communication and fashion journalism. She worked as a fashion and interiors journalist before starting a career in garden design. Her previous publications include 'Decades of Fashion and Classics of Fashion'.
