This catalogue of the Palladio and His Legacy exhibition, centred on original drawings and books by the most significant and influential architect in the western world, Andrea Palladio (1508-80), examines his personal development and architecture, his influence on others achieved through his I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura, the subsequent dissemination of his teachings through translations and pattern books in Britain and America, and the influence of Palladianism on architecture in the New World.
The promulgation of Palladian principles resulted in new and original interpretations that took firm hold in America, influencing both grand formal buildings and smaller utilitarian structures. The drawings are supported by numerous architectural models. Three large examples - the Pantheon, Villa Rotunda, and Jefferson's unrealized design for the White House - programmatically illustrate the journey from Rome to America. Smaller models along with rare architectural texts and pattern books, through which Palladio's ideas were primarily transmitted, reinforce the themes of the book.
In the tradition of Addison Mizner, Maurice Fatio, John Volk, and Howard Major - the early architects of Palm Beach’s great estates and public buildings of the Gilded Age - the architecture of Jeffery W. Smith stands resplendent as a testament to the refined elegance of another time, and is as well a promise of the grandeur that the future holds.
Hailed by Town & Country as “the most adept young historicist working in Palm Beach today,” preeminent Palm Beach architect Jeffery Smith is a paragon of exquisite design sense, as is clearly evident in the houses featured here. Smith’s work - a continuation of the classical Mediterranean style characteristic of the town that has come to be known as the “American Riviera” - is showcased in Palm Beach Splendor in seventeen of his most recent projects, in magnificent full-colour photographs featuring interiors by such well-known designers as Peter Marino and David Easton.

Ne parle-t-on pas à son propos de seconde peau ?

A must-have for gardeners and garden lovers
“If you have a garden and a library, then you have everything you need,” said Cicero in ancient times. Gardens are places of peace and meditation that invite you to dream. With their vivid greens, flowers in every color of the rainbow, and inviting shade trees, gardens exert a special pull on us and offer an escape from everyday stress. Paradise Found – Gardens of Enchantment shows the world’s most beautiful gardens, from English gardens and romantic rose gardens to enchanting nature gardens. The evocative photographs and excellent plant portraits by Clive Nichols, a master of using light to create mood, are equally moving and inspiring. Classic garden stories and quotes accompany the reader through this volume on a visual stroll through nature.
CLIVE NICHOLS is one of the world’s best-known garden and plant photographers and has received many awards for his work. His photos have appeared in countless magazines, books, and calendars. It has been the French revolution that has paved the way for an inventive and creative spirit in the arts, architecture, literature, and music that enhanced the development of science and technology of the future.
Even a few years back, on the 200th anniversary of the revolution, the city presented more breath-taking monuments to modern architecture, which rival any in Europe.
This book presents new and innovative projects by architects, who on the one hand, bear witness to the desire to combine environmentalism with the urban needs and, on the other, to the diversity of influence and changes needed in the architectural outlook.
All projects will be listed in alphabetical order to the architects and designers, presented in a very clear layout. As far as available floor plans will give additional insights.
Take a journey through the world’s most romantic city, traveling from color to magnificent color with this beguiling book.
