Ce livre montre comment les artisans ont utilisé les marbres anciens dans le mobilier : dessus de commodes, plateaux de tables et de consoles, cheminées en marbre. Outre le marbre dans le meuble, son utilisation dans la décoration, l’architecture, la mosaïque, les objets d’art, les statues et l’art religieux est largement abordée.
Une partie technique traite des connaissances nécessaires à l’expertise d’un marbre ancien, son identification et son entretien, et montre un exemple de restauration d’un plateau de marbre.
