Featuring innovative home offices that are inventive, accessible, and often wonderfully serene, this book is a rich source of ideas and inspirations embracing the call to work from home!

Pavilions, sheds, studios, extensions — call them what you will, architects around the globe are experimenting with attached or detached workplaces and creating imaginative ateliers that strain the limits of “miniature”; one is just 100 square feet. It is a worldwide adventure in architectural experimentation and originality.

Organized organically, much like the eco-sensitive structures shown here that only very lightly touch the land, the book allows a reader to meander happily into and out of ideas and space-sensitive solutions for writers, painters, accountants, ceramicists, and individuals of all stripes in need of spaces to think, to work, and to wonder. From a scholar’s library study in upstate New York that reduces an enclosed shelter down to its most spartan modernist roots to a weathered steel-clad extension in London humorously dubbed “Brexit Bunker,” featured examples are splendidly diverse expressions of the creative use of space toward an end of inspiration and productivity.

We can work, study, and dream at a pace that responds to our individual needs in places that inspire us and fill us with delight — that is the goal…and the lesson to be learned here.

Diane Keaton, Photographs by Lisa Romerein
ID: 16086
Видавництво: Rizzoli

At once a style guide, an inspirational tome, and a how-to volume on creating one’s home, this book will serve as a go-to reference for all those seeking to spur their own creativity as they embark on the creation of home. When Diane Keaton decided that she wanted to build her own home from the ground up, she took the advice of her dear friend, film director Nancy Meyers, and took to the boards of Pinterest to find inspiration. There she discovered the practical and the fantastical, elements and styles long adored and ones that she never knew she was drawn to. Keaton’s dream house was officially under way and this book that resulted is a compelling account of her that house, from idea to realization in brick, stone, and wood.

The House that Pinterest Built defines what home and house mean to the celebrated movie star, who is known for her love affair with houses and design. Filled with ideas that reveal a personal yet engaging aesthetic, this volume includes compelling photos from Keaton’s past homes and those she admires, as well as a multitude of details from every corner of those spaces and objects that excite and inspire the house designer and dreamer — dramatic staircases and magical light fixtures, film stills and book covers, pottery and art — drawn from the visual treasure trove known as Pinterest and Keaton’s private collection, as she creates and designs her newest house.

Rich imagery is accompanied by Keaton’s ideas for selecting furniture, kitchen layout, and bedroom design; she talks about the importance of lighting in the bathroom and why the living room needs to be reimagined. Beyond the interior, she explores curb appeal and environmental sensitivity, always with an eye to making home the way it should be — a place of tranquility, a place where one is restored and where one returns to dream again and again. The book culminates in the dream realized, the house she has imagined, designed, and made, now shared with the world for the first time in all-new photography.

If you want to explore. If you love to see. If you’re looking to look; this book is an example of a home made from the gifts of other people’s addictive yearnings for the perfect home, with the perfect landscape and the perfect interior. It illustrates my choices of your choices. Who knows, you might find one of your pins here. You might smile. You might shake your head and say, ‘This isn’t what I had in mind.’ You might think: ‘Hey that’s my kitchen. She copied my kitchen.’ But the truth is, as much as I tried, I could never entirely recreate the light filled photograph of a kitchen that led the way to the journey that brought me here. No one can.” – Diane Keaton

Foreword by Kate Markert, Contributions by Wilfred Zeisler and Megan J. Martinelli and Jason Speck
ID: 15716
Видавництво: Rizzoli

A celebration of philanthropist Marjorie Merriweather Post’s passions for her residences and personal collections, reflecting centuries of some of the finest treasures in the world.

Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887–1973) was an extraordinary person, not only for being the head of a major corporation but also for overseeing elegant and well-run residences and amassing collections of astounding beauty. Including portraiture, imperial Russian tableware, Fabergé creations, stunning garments and jewelry, books, and rare objects in gold, silver, and porcelain, Post’s works of art were acquired with intelligence and acuity. She was inspired by past royal and aristocratic patrons as well as countries that she admired: France, Russia, England, and Austria.

This publication illustrates the evolution of Post’s collections and her interactions with dealers, artists, artisans, and architects. The backdrops for her treasures — residences in New York, the Adirondacks, Palm Beach, and Washington, D.C. — are depicted with period and newly commissioned photography. Recent scholarship focusing on the highlights of her trove of exquisite objects sheds new light on Post’s legacy as a twentieth-century collector.

About the Author:

Kate Markert is the executive director of Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens. Wilfried Zeisler is the chief curator at Hillwood. Megan J. Martinelli is the associate curator of textiles, apparel, jewelry, and accessories at Hillwood. Jason G. Speck is Hillwood’s head of archives and special collections.

Author Robert O'Byrne, Photographs by Luke White
ID: 18046
Видавництво: Rizzoli

A unique presentation of Irish country house interiors, combining well-preserved historic estates with adventurous contemporary restorations, celebrating some of the most characterful houses in Ireland.

Forgoing the criteria of stateliness and opulence, this book is an exploration of the most captivating and unusual interiors in Ireland. Whether in the transformation of a derelict estate, the preservation of an historic hunting lodge, or the re-creation of a Gothic fantasy, each of the homes in this extraordinary book reflects a renewed vitality in the contemporary approach to Irish country houses.

Rich in detail and varied in scope, the houses reveal a refreshing dynamism in their decoration by equally diverse owners — from the ornate refurbishment of a castle by a Mexican financier to the bold palette of a contemporary artist’s renovation to an Elizabethan Revival house. The sparse interiors of a mansion in Westmeath reflect its painstaking restoration by descendants of the original owners, and at Coollattin — Ireland’s largest country house, part restored, part still in disrepair — the building’s baroque splendor is amplified by its raw, unfinished state.

Accompanying photography of the houses made specially for the book, the author guides readers through fifteen exceptional spaces, elucidating the remarkable aspects of each — and in doing so celebrates the unexpected eclecticism and reinvigorated spirit of Ireland’s historic interiors.

He is the author of more than a dozen books, a former columnist for Apollo magazine, and has written for both The Burlington Magazine and the Irish Arts Review. Multi-award-winning interior designer Natale takes readers deeper than ever before into his intricate approach to layering — the process of curating and editing elements to create warm, welcoming interiors.

Told in Natale’s refreshing, personable style and accompanied by rich visuals, The Layered Interior is a celebration of the design elements that give a home character, such as vintage and contemporary furniture and lighting, artworks, ornaments, and accents thoughtfully combined with color and pattern — from the lush feel of a burgundy velvet chair to the dynamic effect of an Art Deco rug and the way wallpaper can transform a room. Featured residences include a modern palazzo on Queensland’s Brisbane River full of arches, red and gilt elements, and glorious patterned wallpaper; a Melbourne city mansion that is all sumptuous hues and dark, moody opulence; a penthouse on Sydney Harbour blending soft pink tones and sculptural curves; and another penthouse in Melbourne’s exclusive Toorak suburb that channels a dazzling Dynasty vibe.

Maura McEvoy, Basha Burwell, Kathleen Hackett
ID: 17091
Видавництво: Vendome Press

The authors of the highly successful The Maine House continue their quest to record and celebrate the authentic Maine houses of their childhoods—a Maine that is in danger of vanishing

Spend any amount of time in Maine—a weekend, a summer, a lifetime—and its impression lasts forever. When The Maine House was published in 2021, the reception was astonishing. Over four printings and across the world, The Maine House sounded a rallying cry, summed up perfectly in one of dozens of reviews, that it “crafts a plea to preserve a living history belonging to individual, family, and state; a visual call to recognize these homey structures and others like them as ‘extraordinary gifts.’” The Maine House II moves beyond the authors’ cri de coeur; they’re on a mission. Through 30 homes—inland, inshore, and on islands—McEvoy, Burwell, and Hackett highlight the beauty and importance of preservation, restoration, thoughtful renovation, and low–impact living in the place they love the most. From visionaries who saw home in a post–and–beam barn, a lighthouse, a former hotel, and a boat shed to families resolutely leaving generational homes largely untouched (some continuing to live off the grid) and still others honoring vernacular architecture by living with it in surprising ways, The Maine House II captures the myriad ways one can live in this singular place—in the present—while preserving the past and ensuring its future.

About the Author:

Photographer Maura McEvoy has spent every summer of her life on the Maine coast. Her work has appeared in House Beautiful, Town & Country, Condé Nast Traveler, Outside Magazine, and Martha Stewart Living, among many other publications. She lives in Wells Beach, Maine, and Brooklyn, New York.

Born and raised in Maine, Basha Burwell is a stylist and art director for such diverse clients as L.L. Bean, Garnet, and Misha & Puff. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Brooklin, Maine.

Kathleen Hackett spends her summers in Maine. Her books include At the Artisan’s Table and Brooklyn Interiors, and she contributes to Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and Veranda. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, and Rockport Village, Maine.
