Italian design has an extraordinary reputation worldwide, but is there such a thing as an Italian aesthetic? In the worlds of fashion, cars, buildings and furniture, the answer is a resounding yes. For decades, Italian designers and architects have been applauded for their elegance, originality, and perfection. Names such as Studio Archea, Paolo Deganello, Alessandro Mendini, and Ettore Sottsass are synonymous with a fascinating formal vocabulary and are known far beyond the borders of their native country. Italian Interior Design presents 34 remarkable interiors, each created within the past decade, by some of Italy's most admired designers. Illustrated with brilliant photographs, sketches, plans and including a highly informative text, this guide to the best in Italian design offers a window into a culture that places a high value on beauty, simplicity, and utility.
This new series about the diversity of regional interior design starts with two volumes, one about French, and the other about Italian interiors.
Both titles open the doors to the inner worlds of these two European countries to reflect how they inhabit the private and public realms. They are showing the similarities as well as the differences between and within both countries in terms of their interior styles. The typical is preserved and blended with the contemporary. Each book is a compilation of interior inspiration, from classic to contemporary looks.

Edith Wharton’s Italian Villas and Their Gardens, a seminal work on garden design, is a testament to the passionate connoisseurship of one of America’s greatest writers. A comprehensive look at the history and character of Italian garden architecture and ornamentation, the book explores more than seventy-five villas, capturing what Wharton calls their "garden-magic" and illuminating the intimate relationship between the house, its formal gardens, and the surrounding countryside. This beautiful hardcover facsimile is carefully reproduced from the first edition published in 1904 and features all of the original plates, including twenty-six illustrations by Maxfield Parrish, as well as décollage edges. It is published in association with The Mount Press. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the book support the restoration of The Mount, the Massachusetts estate designed and built by Wharton based on the principles articulated in this book and in The Decoration of Houses. Elegantly written and informed by Wharton’s sensitivity and wit, Italian Villas and Their Gardens is a work that belongs on the shelf of every lover of gardens and good taste.
A thirty-year career has made Jacques Garcia a worldwide name in interior design in the French tradition. In Paris, chic crowds flock to his celebrated Hétel Costes and Ladurée tearoom, and to his many fin-de-siécle brasseries. Garcia's designs also grace the interiors of the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée de la Vie Romantique-and his most recent tour de force is the restoration of Paris' Hétel Mansart. Garcia's most ambitious project to date, the refurbishment of the Chéteau du Champ de Bataille in Normandy, attracts visitors from across the globe and has become a monument to his art and celebrity.
This new edition of the 1999 book is a continuing tribute to the restoration of the chéteau and to its magnificent gardens, seen here for the first time. Sumptuously illustrated and updated to include Garcia's latest creations, this new edition provides the reader with a privileged view of true French style.
Famous not only for his passion for antiquities but also for his much-lauded and internationally famous interior design work, Jacques Garcia purchased the imposing Château du Champ de Bataille twenty years ago in a state of virtual ruin and lovingly restored it to its former splendour. The chateau is now a treasure house of seventeenth and eighteenth-century architecture, furniture, and garden design, to which Garcia brought his considerable expertise gained from numerous restoration projects including rooms at Versailles and the Louvre. Every detail from the library with its collection of priceless books to the grand dining room with its rare collection of Sèvres porcelain to the hall of taxidermy has been carefully studied and interpreted through the prism of Jacques Garcia's extraordinary eye and inimitable style. This superbly illustrated volume documents the meticulous research and epic restoration undertaken by Jacques Garcia.
Informed by history and imbued with the exquisite beauty of the château and its priceless collection of paintings, sculptures, porcelain, silver, and furniture, Garcia's masterpiece will be a revelation to specialists on French art and a delight and inspiration to anyone interested in interior decoration and restoration.

Japandi is the newest and hottest trend in interiors: a harmonious combination of functionality, comfort, and the minimalist look that characterizes Scandinavian design with the purest elegance of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Japandi harmoniously blends Scandinavian hygge with wabi-sabi, a concept derived from Zen Buddhism that advocates peaceful sobriety and invites us to admire the beauty hidden in slight imperfections in nature. This first major survey of Japandi style will introduce the reader to the fundamentals and to iconic objects that will transform an interior into a Japandi-inspired retreat.
Chapter one of the book examines the converging principles that have contributed to the emergence of Japandi Style such as functionality, neutral colors, the importance of organic materials, and the thoughtful simplicity of shapes. Chapter two presents some of the most emblematic works of Japandi Style, and the design studios behind them. Chapter three gives examples of how to decorate and furnish rooms - the living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, winter garden, or home office - in Japandi Style.
