European Folk contains examples of the design of everyday textiles and costumes used throughout Europe, and especially central and eastern Europe. Typical design elements include bold checks and stripes, colourful flowers and figurative elements associated with rural life and seasons of the year. Also included in this book are examples of crochet, lace and embroidery.

This is the third book in the new PEPIN Fashion, Textiles & Patterns series. This series consists of large-format, stunningly illustrated volumes on a wide range of styles. Each volume in the series will include concise, authoritative texts as well as information about technical aspects and a wealth of inspiration and visual resource material. The illustrations include photographs of clothes, historical images (including fashion plates), cutting schemes, decorative details and reproductions of fabric designs. Each volume includes a CD with ready-to-use files.

This beautiful volume features 103 superb pieces of European furniture dating from the Renaissance to the late nineteenth century from the collection of The Metropolitan Museum. Examples by many outstanding European designer-craftsmen, such as Andre-Charles Boulle, Thomas Chippendale, David Roentgen, and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, are included, as well as important works by unknown makers. In detailed texts, which incorporate new archival and technical information, the authors discuss the history and significance of each piece. An introduction by Danielle Kisluk-Grosheide presents the history of the Museum's distinguished furniture collection. Colour reproductions of the furniture are presented in overall views and many details, all of which were made specifically for this book. Three hundred fifty-eight additional colour images are included on a CD-ROM at the back of the book.

Danielle O. Kisluk-Grosheide and Wolfram Koeppe are Curators and William Rieder is Curator and Administrator in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The sheer range and complexity of the subject of European furniture makes it impossible to adequately evaluate in anything less than this detailed and lavishly illustrated work.

Europe in the nineteenth century was a region of great political and industrial change, so it was inevitable that the period would be responsible for a wide variety of different styles. The European furniture scene at this time was dominated by France, where the aspirations of the two Napoleons to recreate France's earlier grandeur helped to promote French fashions all over Europe. In addition, other influences filtered into Europe from Turkey, Africa, and the Far and Middle East, having a notable impact on design and decoration throughout the century.

Although this period saw the advent of mass production, it was a highly creative era - often leading to bizzare results, as designers vied to produce new styles. Each decade also witnessed the manufacture of the excellently crafted and beautifully designed pieces which are so sought after and appreciated today.

The original edition of this book has become a standard reference work for auctioneers, dealers and collectors alike. Now significantly revised and expanded, with over 300 new colour illustrations, this classic work discusses the complexities of European furniture produced between 1830 and 1910, providing information and insight as well as a visual record of some of the best examples of the period.

The starting point of an event is usually the desire to create something remarkable for a special occasion.

Different disciplines like architecture, light and sound are brought into continually new areas of experience, which makes every event an one-of-a-kind happening. Also the requirements for decor and furniture for such events rise and the creative potential is huge. Nowadays big companies improve their corporate identity by celebrating marketing events and parties. Those events have become a major aspect of business communication: they create customer loyalty and strengthen the "we-feeling" of the company's team.

This book shows a selection of outstanding projects which can be perceived as a unified whole and have been consistently realized in their form and content. An index with contact information of the respective event agencies is enclosed.

Few publications illustrate so comprehensively what American men, women and children wore in the 1940s than the Sears catalogs of those years, when the company's fashions typified the tastes of the American mainstream. This book is a compilation of 122 fully illustrated and captioned pages selected and reproduced from rare copies of Sears catalogs of the World War II era. Over 120 large-format pages have been carefully reprinted on high-quality glossy stock. They reveal in sharp detail the broad range of clothing fashions available during a period when wartime gasoline rationing made mail-order shopping reach new heights of popularity. Hundreds of accurately detailed drawings depict articles of clothing and personal accessories, including hats, overcoats and shoes, suits and dresses, sportswear, undergarments, corsetry, neckties, rainwear and more. Styles for children range from play clothes to "Sunday best." Men's clothing reflects the conservatism in male fashions during the period. Women's wear ranges from slacks, newly popular with women in the work force, to dresses with plenty of "Oomph"! Here is a richly revealing document that historians of costume and readers interested in fashion, social history and Americana will find endlessly fascinating. JoAnne Olian, curator of the Costume Collection at the Museum of the City of New York, has written an introduction that appraises the fashions of the 1940s and the many ways in which they reflected the times.

Over 130 fully illustrated pages from Sears catalogs offer historically accurate images of what men, women, and children wore throughout 1930s. Hundreds of illustrations reflect the era's mood of economic austerity and its departure from the flamboyance of Twenties fashions in favor of lower hemlines and garments made from more traditional, affordable materials.

Experimental Formats & Packaging examines exciting design problems, such as how to make a book that does not look like a book, and how to create packaging that can be taken into new design dimensions while still fulfilling its essential, functional role.

While both formats and packaging are notoriously difficult areas in which to be innovative and revolutionary, the authors have brought together examples that combine awareness of process and materials and creativity without compromising other methods of communication. Over 100 illustrated case studies reveal the ideas and philosophies behind each project, while an extensive directory of materials and processes, plus a range of basic box templates, provides an invaluable grounding to encourage a more experimental approach to design.

Experimental Formats and Packaging combines the content of two highly successful titles in one great value book.
