Minimum Design: An indispensable compendium on important designers of the modern era
An ideal and accessible introduction suitable for students and lovers of design today
Ettore Sottsass was an Italian architect and designer. His work included furniture, jewellery, glass, lighting and office machine design. His work was unique, much of it influenced by a desire to avoid corporate work, believing that to confine himself to the realms of mass-produced consumerist products would stifle his creativity. His design style shifted dramatically during his career, from the modernist typewriters and office furniture commissioned by Olivetti in the 60s to the vibrant and iconic pieces of furniture created for the collection from the Memphis Group, a group of architects and designers that he worked within the 80s and 90s.
Published in the same style as the successful Minimum Architects series, the Minimum Design series includes books about the major figures in the field of design, creators of objects that have become a part of our daily lives. The lamp on our desk, the chair we are sitting on or the glasses we are wearing have a genius behind them to be discovered.
These volumes will introduce in a practical manner the personalities and the works of the world's major designers by way of an historical-critical introduction to the work and life of each individual designer. An accurate selection of the designer's most famous objects arranged in chronological order and a critique of his or her work summarising the most significant reviews published in magazines and newspapers will complete the subject.
A celebration of the enormously popular Italian painter, sculptor and interior decorator
Piero Fornasetti established an enduring reputation as a designer with a style that was all his own – a style based on illusionism, architectural perspectives and a host of personal leitmotifs, such as the sun, playing cards and fishes, from which he spun seemingly endless variations. 'He makes objects speak' said Gio Ponti, his friend and longtime collaborator.
Designers and collectors today celebrate his use of allusion, unsettling images and striking juxtaposition to create unique, whimsical objects. Fornasetti's masterpieces shock, delight and inspire.

Green Design colorfully documents the rising trend to create and market new and innovative products that help consumers downsize and upgrade their lives. Through a carefully chosen selection of green toys, objects, fabrics, paper and alternative energy sources, the photographs and articles in Green Design illustrate what happens when green-minded lifestyles meet well-designed, high quality products. Many of the examples in this book show how successful business plans can flourish when ecological and social responsibility are core considerations.
Though the book features color photographs of all the products mentioned – from American Apparel to Lego to Sonic Fabric to Jimi Wallets to Stupid Sock Creatures – Green Design is not a glorified catalog. It is a well-focused collection of products created by over 50 designers that exemplifies their work and the inspiration behind it.
With articles by writers who have collectively contributed to Wired, Mother Jones, NPR’s All Things Considered, Entertainment Weekly, The Asian Wall Street Journal, Print, The San Francisco Chronicle, I.D., dwell and Photo District News, Green Design is suited for designers implementing aspects of green design and consumers who want to be informed about the products they buy.
Our epoch has found in the painter-king the most formidable accuser of totalitarian thinking, from nuclear energy to the organization of our living environment. He lives up totally to his way of seeing things, against the contradictions of our post-industrial society.
His trump card is his art, the creator of beauty: of natural harmony, peace and joy. The extra-lucid power of his analytical sensitivity makes him the perfect decoder of global culture and its guided information. Hundertwasser reveals the prodigious quality resources of naturist empiricism against the abusive uniformity of rationalist totalitarianism, against the tyranny of ugliness and the iron rule of its straight line.
It is all inscribed in his painting, which is the revelation of sensitivity, the open book of destiny; it translates intuition into images, and those images inspire the major orientations of his thinking and action. When concretized moreover, those orientations fit perfectly into the practical norms of his aesthetic. Based on the empirical, artisan and organic intelligence of man-nature relations, his project for society is a cry of hope in beauty, a sine qua non-condition for human development.

Minimum Design: An indispensable compendium on important designers of the modern era
An ideal and accessible introduction suitable for students and lovers of design today
During his brief but prolific career, Cesare "Joe" Colombo became one of the most inventive figures in contemporary Italian design. His futuristic designs included 'micro-living-worlds'; multi-functional objects that aimed to save space and time and accommodate the needs of modern living spaces. These objects led to his Visiona, the 'habitat for the future' that reinvented seating, storage, lighting and other furnishings that reflected his emphasis on change and the possibilities offered by new technologies. All his items were affordably priced and designed for large-scale production and consumption, making him a major player in the evolution of the iconic 'sixties style' that is still prevalent in interior design trends today.

A major survey of KAWS and his eye-popping work, from collectible art toys to UNIQLO T-shirts, from graffiti to museum exhibitions
Appropriating characters, images and effects from pop culture, the work of KAWS blurs the lines between high and low art, and between art and fashion.
Effectively deploying film and television favourites for his toys, large-scale sculpture and bold, nearly abstract painting, KAWS recasts the familiar colours and forms of popular entertainment in cheeky and often poignantly human terms. Influenced by Andy Warhol and other Pop artists, hard-edge abstract painting and graffiti, KAWS’ work deftly straddles consumer culture and artistic innovation, and his distinctive style is as much at home in his toys as in his monumental sculpture. KAWS: Where the End Starts explores the artist’s prolific career in depth, featuring key paintings, sculptures, drawings, toys and fashion and advertising designs.
This extensive monograph, including contributions from Andrea Karnes, Michael Auping, Dieter Buchhart and Pharrell Williams, reveals critical aspects of KAWS’ formal and conceptual development over the past 20 years, as his career has shifted from graffiti to fine art and collaborations with designers and brands such as Comme des Garçons, SUPREME, Nigo (A Bathing Ape) and Nike.
Published in a hardcover edition with more than 150 color reproductions by the Museum of Modern Art, Fort Worth in conjunction with the major 2016 Fall exhibition on KAWS.
About the Authors:
Brooklyn-based KAWS (born in 1974) is widely considered one of the most relevant artists of his generation. Within the Pop art tradition, he has created a prolific body of influential work, which both engages young people with contemporary art and straddles the worlds of art and design to include both product and graphic design, paintings, murals and sculpture.
Marla Price is Director of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Michael Auping is Chief Curator at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, and the author of books on abstract expressionism, Clyfford Still, and Arshile Gorky.

Essays on his involvement with the Bauhaus School; his late paintings; his photographs, photograms, and photosculptures; and his accomplishments in the field of graphic art are complemented by numerous colour illustrations.
The book also documents the reconstruction of a never completed work,
The Room of Today, which incorporates the most important themes Moholy-Nagy brought to his art. Readers viewing his work for the first time, along with those already possessing a deep appreciation for his art, will celebrate this long-overdue volume.
Dutch designer Marcel Wanders is undeniably one of the most prolific and celebrated international designers today. Marcel Wanders: Behind the Ceiling is the highly anticipated first monograph on the star designer. It charts his provocative body of work and stellar career.
Wanders has garnered fame through his ingenious talent, turning conceptual visions into stunning products and dazzling environments by fusing cutting-edge technology, artistry and a love of the bizarre. Wanders’ designs are characteristically buoyant and imbued with his signature irony and quirky dry wit that evoke imagination; nevertheless, his furniture, lighting, interior designs, tableware, decorative porcelain and ceramic vases are unpretentiously urbane.
Lavishly printed, this book showcases Marcel Wanders’ work over the past decade. It features tableware for the renowned Dutch porcelain manufacturers Tichelaar Makkum and Royal Delft, as well as his personal art editions such as his acclaimed oversized ceramic bells, crochet seating and sculptures launched by his own studio. In addition, it presents textiles and furniture he has designed for an extensive client list including brands such as B&B Italia, Poliform, Moroso, Cappellini, Droog as well as Moooi, of which he is also Art Director and co-owner. An entertainer at heart, his theatrical performances and installations are also included, which prove his exceptional skill at amplifying experience with mesmerising environments.
The book also introduces designs for interiors and architecture such as the extraordinary “all over city” hospitality-concept Lute Suites he established in Amsterdam as well as unpublished projects, including the new Mondrian South Beach Hotel in Miami and the Villa Moda flagship store in Bahrain, scheduled to open its doors in 2009.
Marcel Wanders: Behind the Ceiling includes stunning photographs and sketches, and accompanying text along with abundant quotes from the designer himself offers a first-hand account of Wanders’ irresistible universe.
