Alastair Duncan, the world-renowned authority on Louis C. Tiffany, has produced the definitive work on America's premier artist-designer, examining every facet of Tiffany's unrivalled achievements in a lifetime consecrated, in his own words, to 'The Quest of Beauty'. As Tiffany's wares have continued to rise in popularity since their resurgence in the market-place in the 1950s, many collectors have focused solely on lamps, others on glassware, while others again have assembled collections encompassing several Tiffany disciplines, for example, a handful of lamps, vases, fancy goods, and a window or painting or two. Only Takeo Horiuchi, however, has set out to build a comprehensive collection that incorporates masterworks in each and every artistic discipline to which Tiffany applied himself: Paintings, Furniture, Windows, Mosaics, Art Glass, Lamps, Fancy Goods, Metalware, Enamelware, Silver, Pottery and Jewellery. This book, based on the superlative Louis C. Tiffany Garden Museum Collection formed by Mr. Horiuchi, presents a unique overview of every aspect of Tiffany's talent. For the first time it is possible to see, gathered together 'under one roof', the range of Louis C. Tiffany's creativity - from his famous lamps and windows to his lesser-known paintings and furniture. Every piece in the collection is reproduced in colour, often complemented by extracts from contemporary art revues and the Tiffany firm's sales catalogues, advertisements and price lists, while photographs show them in their original domestic settings, or in the firm's showrooms or international expositions at which they made their debuts. Tiffany's workshops are also illustrated, as well as the logbook entries of its artisans and annotated sketches of its designers. This wealth of illustrative material is accompanied by Alastair Duncan's detailed and evocative descriptions of the workshops, materials, manufacturing processes, the rich and famous who patronised Tiffany, their commissions, and the colourful personalities of the team of artist-craftsmen with whom Tiffany surrounded himself. This book provides a beautiful and comprehensive picture of every artistic discipline to which Tiffany applied himself, a true testament to his extraordinary talent.

Masterpieces of French Jewelry is a delightful testament to the power of jewelry-like all true art-to mirror changes in America’s evolving social milieu. It offers an enchanting lens through which to view America’s rise from frontier nation to an industrial superpower, with a new moneyed class hungry for recognition and status. French jewelry provided that and more. This sumptuously-designed full color book-the first and only one on this subject-features over 80 photographs of the most remarkable pieces that found their way into prominent American collections. It also showcases a brilliant array of styles. There are chapters devoted to jewelry characteristic of the Art Nouveau period, along with Art Deco, the Victorian Era, 1940s retro, and the 1960s through more contemporary styles. An added bonus: one-of-a-kind jewelry creations from notable artists such as Man Ray, Pablo Picasso, Matta, and Arman.

The publication of Masterpieces of French Jewelry coincides with the National Jewelry Institute’s exhibition, "Masterpieces of French Jewelry from Twentieth-Century American Collections," which will begin at The Forbes Galleries in New York in September 2006.

New Directions in Jewellery II is an astonishing collection of the most exciting jewellery today, exploring the increasingly varied ways in which the boundaries of design are being extended and challenged by contemporary makers.

New Directions in Jewellery II showcases an international array of makers and designers. From established jewellers like Karl Fritsch, Ted Noten and Monika Brugger, to exciting emerging talents like Madeleine Furness and Carla Nuis, the captivating works shown here, each in their own way challenge and engage with traditional conceptions of adornment. Focusing on jewellery as an experimental practice that engages with fine art, craft, design, fashion and popular culture, this book is an essential document of an ever-broadening discipline.

This rich visual survey profiles over 40 designers and also features an essay by prominent maker and academic Lin Cheung. From innovative uses of form and material, to conceptual pieces that critique the cultural and social meanings that have built up around the wearing and manufacture of jewellery— New Directions in Jewellery II is a vibrant study of the contemporary jewellery scene.

Following the success of the acclaimed New Directions in Jewellery, this second volume is as inspired, covetable and beautiful as the jewels it contains. New Directions in Jewellery II is a radical take on this age old art-form.

Rings symbolize many things. They can serve as personal statements, adornments, representations of a commitment, or a sentimental reminder. In the hands of the world’s most creative jewelers they transcend into works of art in endlessly intriguing ways.

This marvelously illustrated survey showcases 591 contemporary rings that have been created by nearly 300 international designers. It is divided into five sections — one for each finger. Aside from being purely decorative, the position of the ring on the hand and the way in which it is worn can denote love, promise, rebellion, compromise, or affiliation.

The rings range from more traditional decorative rings to conceptual and abstract pieces. The featured designers employ a wide variety of techniques, and the materials they use include gold, platinum, precious stones, plastic, bones, fiber, wood, shells, plants, and more.
