This new NeoArchitecture monograph presents the work of Studio Downie, a young practice whose work to date has mostly appeared in the UK, but is poised to make its mark on the world scene. Craig Downie studied architecture within the layered environment of fine art, sculpture, graphics and textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. He formed Studio Downie in 1993 and its first building, a widely published gallery for the Cass Sculpture Foundation, West Sussex, was completed in 1994. The intervening years have involved many projects, including interiors for the Ondaatje Theatre, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), KPMG Microsoft, government- funded outreach centres for the West London Training & Enterprise Council and offices for the French Treasury. Recent commissions include the Library for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a new mixed- use gateway building as part of the King's Cross Development.

About the Author:

Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty founded Studio KO in 2000 after graduating with architecture degrees from Paris’s École des Beaux-Arts. Tom Delavan is a specialist in decorative arts, an artistic director, and interior designer, and is the design editor at the New York Times’ T Magazine. Pierre Bergé was a renowned French businessman and philanthropist who aided his companion, Yves Saint Laurent, in founding and developing his namesake haute couture house. 

Studios Architecture has many years of experience in making communities for corporations. In the early years, much of Studios' work was concerned with the design of corporate campuses. The firm wanted to humanise the workplace and provide a face to these little villages it designed. Studios' architectural language is now more varied to fit a diverse practice where the boundaries between work,culture, technology and society have been blurred; yet is grounded in a sense of humanity. In this volume, US design guru John Saladino reveals the secrets that made him one of the world's most respected interior designers. He reveals the inspiration behind his design philosophy with its mastery of colour, light and scale. Showing how lessons from the classical world can be implemented in contemporary design, he talks through the design principles that guide him and explains how he applies these principles to settings as well as suggesting solutions for your own home. Chapter by chapter he moves from discussing essential considerations such as light and colour to the more ambitious skills of mastering scale, illusion and exaggeration.

John Saladino is a graduate of Notre Dame and the Yale School of Art and Architecture. He worked in Rome with the architect Piero Sartogo before returning to New York where he opened his own architectural and interior design practice over 35 years ago. It is now known as The Saladino Group Inc. In 1986 he started his own furniture company. He has won numerous interior design and furniture awards (including the prestigious Daphne Award) and he is on the Board of Directors of the John Soane Museum in London. His interiors regularly appear in international magazines including House Beautiful, House and Garden, the New York Times Magazine, Architectural Digest, Vogue Decoration and the World of Interiors.

The book selects more than 60 domestic top projects, mostly masterpieces from Vanke, Poly, China Overseas, Greenland, etc and some of the projects are winners of the 7th Kinpan Award.
