Nightclubs and discothèques are hotbeds of contemporary culture.

Throughout the 20th century, they have been centres of the avant-garde that question the established codes of social life and experiment with different realities, merging interior and furniture design, graphics and art with sound, light, fashion and special effects to create a modern Gesamtkunstwerk.

Night Fever. Designing Club Culture 1960 – Today is the first book to offer a comprehensive overview of the design history of the nightclub, examining its cultural context and international scope. Examples range from the Italian clubs of the 1960s created by the protagonists of Radical Design to the legendary Studio 54 where Andy Warhol was a regular and the Palladium in New York, designed by Arata Isozaki, Philippe Starck’s Les Bains Douches in Paris and the more recent Double Club in London, conceived by German artist Carsten Höller for the Prada Foundation, as well as more recent concepts by architecture studio OMA for the Ministry of Sound II in London.

Featuring films and vintage photographs, posters, flyers, and fashion, Night Fever takes the reader on a fascinating journey through a world of glamour, subculture, and the search for the night that never ends.

Author Madeline Stuart, Foreword by Mayer Rus, Photographs by Trevor Tondro
ID: 15792
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The first book from renowned Hollywood-based interior designer Madeline Stuart, whose elegant decorating is predicated on timeless design, be it modernist or traditional in inspiration.

Stuart is hailed as an icon in Los Angeles for her exceptional work. Architectural Digest wrote, "In a city driven by artifice and spectacle, Madeline Stuart celebrates understatement, authenticity, and elegance without affectation." The daughter of director Mel Stuart (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) and a decorator mother whose interiors were favored by actors and entertainers, Stuart grew up as a Hollywood insider. Today, her wide-ranging clientele comes from the entertainment industry as well as the world of business and finance.

In No Place Like Home, Stuart herself writes eloquently about her recent work. With insight and wit, she walks the reader through her design process, from initial vision to execution. From her meticulous renovation of Cedric Gibbons's Streamline Moderne house to a newly built Montana ranch to a Mediterranean-inspired residence on the California coast, each project is informed by Stuart's keen understanding of history and craftsmanship as well as her skill with scale, proportion, and balance. These, along with her unexpected combinations of furniture and fine-art and decorative elements, result in richly layered interiors that feel authentic to their period and place, while remaining always relevant, modern, and beautiful.

Madeline Stuart is an AD100 and Elle Decor A-List interior and architectural designer whose work has been featured in numerous publications. In 1998, Stuart launched her own custom furniture, lighting, and accessories line, available at showrooms across the country. Mayer Rus is a design writer, editor, and critic. In almost no other region of Europe is the connection to nature so pronounced as in the Nordic countries – beginning with the extreme differences between the long, dark winter nights and the long days of summer. A personal celebration of the hunt for — and joy of living with — favorite collections and things

What is it in our homes that we truly value and why? What would you take when you leave in fear of fire?

Our home is an expression of ourselves in many ways, largely through the objects we accumulate. For Maria Hummer-Tuttle, the objects she has collected over the years, from the priceless to the flea-market finds, are precious not only for their beauty, uniqueness, and craftsmanship but also for their connection to the past and the future, for their resonance with one another.

In this exquisitely illustrated book, she serves as our guide through three dwellings, focusing our attention on objects ranging from an ancient Chinese horse sculpture to a Louis XV clock painted with characters from an Aesop fable, from a small snail sculpture found in a venerable hardware store to a monumental safety-pin sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, and from 18th-century to 20th-century furniture.

With a foreword by master ceramicist and acclaimed author Edmund de Waal and featuring two lavish gatefolds, Objects of Desire is a feast for the eyes and an object to be cherished in its own right.

About the Authors:

Maria Hummer Tuttle practiced law for more than 25 years. She served as chairman of the Getty Board of Trustees and is on the board of numerous museums, arts foundations, and foreign policy, government, and education organizations. She is the co-author of Winfield House, written while her husband was American ambassador to the UK. She lives in Los Angeles and New York.
Edmund de Waal is a British ceramist renowned for his large scale installations of porcelain vessels and the author of award winning books, including The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance and The White Road: Journey into an Obsession. He lives in London.
Miguel Flores Vianna is a photographer and writer whose work appears regularly in a variety of leading international publications. His books include Haute Bohemians and A Wandering Eye: Travels with My Phone. He lives in London.

Eran Chen, Paul Goldberger
ID: 17266
Видавництво: Rizzoli

This first book to comprehensively consider ODA’s range in architecture, from apartment to building to neighborhood. Projects underline a humanistic philosophy seeking community engagement, social connectivity, and above all to inform and uplift.

Founded in 2007 by Eran Chen, ODA seeks to reconcile the conditions of vertical urban living with quality of life and has established a reputation for mold-breaking designs. Seeking to reorder urban architectural priorities by putting people first, ODA challenges conventional perspectives of dwelling that will, over time, influence life in our cities.

Full of setbacks, cutouts, and terraces, an ODA building invariably has an exciting profile, tending to be sculptural where important to be visually exciting, up in the sky, and plainer where more important to be straightforward, at street level. Building shapes catch the eye but forms are never arbitrary or excessive. Some, like 15 Renwick in Manhattan, as observed by Goldberger, “are … well-behaved, and defer to the street more than show off their shape; others, like Bevel in Long Island City, Queens, … are more striking … but they never come off as excessive, as form for form’s sake.”

With chapters moving from Apartment to Building to Block to Neighborhood and a gatefold that reveals an exciting new project destined to enliven the New York skyline, the book’s message underlines ODA’s fundamental understanding that nothing exists in isolation, and the goal of architecture is not just the making of comfortable and visually pleasing places in which to live, but the making of community.

About the Authors:

Paul Goldberger is contributing editor at Vanity Fair, holds the Joseph Urban Chair in Design and Architecture at the New School, and in 1984 was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

Eran Chen is Founding Principal and Executive Director of ODA.

Productive work comes from a creative workplace environment!

Because the work environment has a huge impact on employees' performance, many successful companies value how they design their workplaces to keep their employees happy and productive. For example, an open space where people can gather and communicate can motivate and inspire them to come up with new ideas. A meditation room allows employees to calm down and recover their concentration, leading to positive benefits for everyone in the company to work in harmony.

This second title in the Renovation Graphics series showcases those creative and unconventional renovations of offices. In this book, "office" is defined as "workspace" and includes not only a room in an office building but also an atelier, a workshop, a vacant house and a school renovated into an office. Unlike other books, this collection presents spatial design along with graphic design, introducing many graphic design tools such as company logos, signage, business cards, brochures, letterhead and package design.

This book is the best inspirational reference book for professional graphic designers, space designers, and architectural designers.

Macarena Abascal Valdenebro

Видавництво: teNeues

The book is a compendium of homes, including apartments and single-family houses, that have been remodeled to suit contemporary lifestyle needs.

Rehabilitations of living spaces are often done to reanimate existing constructions that, over time, have become impractical, if not obsolete. The challenge is to adapt these existing buildings to contemporary standards while maintaining what might still be useful or what we like about them. Most old buildings are very compartmentalized, reflecting the human habits of their time and the available building technology.

Nowadays, we like to live in much more open and airy spaces — and new building methods allow for the removal of walls that ultimately free up space. We renovate and upgrade living spaces to various degrees, ranging anywhere from upgrading fixtures and appliances to removing and reconstructing walls and expanding buildings. While extensive work is sometimes required, these rehabilitations can result in stunning transformations. Many add comfort and increase utility, not to mention that the investment generally adds value to the property.

This inspirational book showcases a range of rehabilitated projects, from ones that begin by totally stripping out interiors to a clean slate, to less extensive work that might be limited to cosmetic changes or simple finish and fixture upgrades.

Existing dwellings have proved themselves flexible to changing necessities, and they are key to the regeneration of our living environment.

About the Author:

Macarena Abascal Valdenebro lives and works in Barcelona, collaborating on many architectural and interior design books with booq Publishing. She has recently been the author of the titles, Tiny Homesand Small Home Gardens — both of which have been translated and published in several languages.
