Author Wendy Moonan, Foreword by Robert A.M. Stern
ID: 16421
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Design authority Wendy Moonan takes the reader on a tour of some of New York City's finest residential rooms -- past and present.

The selection of interiors is about the "wow" factor -- New York residential spaces that elicit gasps of pleasure and surprise when first seen. Some are very grand, others sparingly modern or eclectic. All are exceptional and, Moonan promises, unforgettable. Groundbreaking rooms include Brooke Astor's elegant library by Albert Hadley; Gloria Vanderbilt's sublime patchwork bedroom; Donald Judd's dramatically spare art-filled loft; Adolfo's opulent and magnificently red entrance hall; a Peter Marino-designed penthouse with sweeping midtown views; and Jamie Drake's stunning dining room for the mayor's residence, Gracie Mansion. Other illustrious interior designers and architects represented in the book include Mario Buatta, Robert Couturier, Albert Hadley, Denning & Fourcade, Mark Hampton, Philip Johnson, Charlotte Moss, Thomas O'Brien, Paul Rudolph, Bunny Williams, and Steven Gambrel.

New York is the epicenter of interior-design innovations. Residents embrace myriad styles -- from pure period historicism to bracing modernity. Moonan investigates the city's best residential spaces and presents them here, a book for the libraries of design lovers and professionals in the field.

About the Authors:

Longtime New Yorker Wendy Moonan has been writing about architecture, design, and antiques for thirty years for the New York Times, Town & Country, House & Garden, Architectural Digest, Galerie Magazine, and 1stdibs.com. She studied at Wellesley and the Sorbonne, and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard. Nonetheless, she says she learned more by sitting in the living rooms of connoisseurs, artists, and patrons than anywhere else. Robert A.M. Stern is the founding partner of New York-based Robert A.M. Stern Architects and the former dean of the Yale School of Architecture.

Author Madeline Stuart, Foreword by Mayer Rus, Photographs by Trevor Tondro
ID: 15792
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The first book from renowned Hollywood-based interior designer Madeline Stuart, whose elegant decorating is predicated on timeless design, be it modernist or traditional in inspiration.

Stuart is hailed as an icon in Los Angeles for her exceptional work. Architectural Digest wrote, "In a city driven by artifice and spectacle, Madeline Stuart celebrates understatement, authenticity, and elegance without affectation." The daughter of director Mel Stuart (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) and a decorator mother whose interiors were favored by actors and entertainers, Stuart grew up as a Hollywood insider. Today, her wide-ranging clientele comes from the entertainment industry as well as the world of business and finance.

In No Place Like Home, Stuart herself writes eloquently about her recent work. With insight and wit, she walks the reader through her design process, from initial vision to execution. From her meticulous renovation of Cedric Gibbons's Streamline Moderne house to a newly built Montana ranch to a Mediterranean-inspired residence on the California coast, each project is informed by Stuart's keen understanding of history and craftsmanship as well as her skill with scale, proportion, and balance. These, along with her unexpected combinations of furniture and fine-art and decorative elements, result in richly layered interiors that feel authentic to their period and place, while remaining always relevant, modern, and beautiful.

About the Author:

Madeline Stuart is an AD100 and Elle Decor A-List interior and architectural designer whose work has been featured in numerous publications. In 1998, Stuart launched her own custom furniture, lighting, and accessories line, available at showrooms across the country. Mayer Rus is a design writer, editor, and critic. Maria Hummer-Tuttle, Edmund de Waal, Miguel Flores-Vianna
ID: 17096
Видавництво: Vendome Press

A personal celebration of the hunt for — and joy of living with — favorite collections and things

What is it in our homes that we truly value and why? What would you take when you leave in fear of fire?

Our home is an expression of ourselves in many ways, largely through the objects we accumulate. For Maria Hummer-Tuttle, the objects she has collected over the years, from the priceless to the flea-market finds, are precious not only for their beauty, uniqueness, and craftsmanship but also for their connection to the past and the future, for their resonance with one another.

In this exquisitely illustrated book, she serves as our guide through three dwellings, focusing our attention on objects ranging from an ancient Chinese horse sculpture to a Louis XV clock painted with characters from an Aesop fable, from a small snail sculpture found in a venerable hardware store to a monumental safety-pin sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, and from 18th-century to 20th-century furniture.

With a foreword by master ceramicist and acclaimed author Edmund de Waal and featuring two lavish gatefolds, Objects of Desire is a feast for the eyes and an object to be cherished in its own right.

About the Authors:

Maria Hummer Tuttle practiced law for more than 25 years. She served as chairman of the Getty Board of Trustees and is on the board of numerous museums, arts foundations, and foreign policy, government, and education organizations. She is the co-author of Winfield House, written while her husband was American ambassador to the UK. She lives in Los Angeles and New York.
Edmund de Waal is a British ceramist renowned for his large scale installations of porcelain vessels and the author of award winning books, including The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance and The White Road: Journey into an Obsession. He lives in London.
Miguel Flores Vianna is a photographer and writer whose work appears regularly in a variety of leading international publications. His books include Haute Bohemians and A Wandering Eye: Travels with My Phone. He lives in London.

Macarena Abascal Valdenebro
ID: 11973
Видавництво: teNeues

The book is a compendium of homes, including apartments and single-family houses, that have been remodeled to suit contemporary lifestyle needs.

Rehabilitations of living spaces are often done to reanimate existing constructions that, over time, have become impractical, if not obsolete. The challenge is to adapt these existing buildings to contemporary standards while maintaining what might still be useful or what we like about them. Most old buildings are very compartmentalized, reflecting the human habits of their time and the available building technology.

Nowadays, we like to live in much more open and airy spaces — and new building methods allow for the removal of walls that ultimately free up space. We renovate and upgrade living spaces to various degrees, ranging anywhere from upgrading fixtures and appliances to removing and reconstructing walls and expanding buildings. While extensive work is sometimes required, these rehabilitations can result in stunning transformations. Many add comfort and increase utility, not to mention that the investment generally adds value to the property.

This inspirational book showcases a range of rehabilitated projects, from ones that begin by totally stripping out interiors to a clean slate, to less extensive work that might be limited to cosmetic changes or simple finish and fixture upgrades.

Existing dwellings have proved themselves flexible to changing necessities, and they are key to the regeneration of our living environment.

Oliver Furth
ID: 17294
Видавництво: Rizzoli

AD100 and Elle Décor A-List Interior Designer Oliver Furth masterfully combines bi-partisan enthusiasm for classical and contemporary influences with California cool, to create sophisticated, livable spaces with relaxed rigor, infused with color and joy.

Known for his timeless approach to design, as well as his irreverent ability to blend different styles and eras seamlessly, Furth combines his expertise in historic decorative arts and contemporary collectible design to create encyclopedic interiors where aristo-irreverence meets West Coast optimism.

A fourth-generation Los Angeles native, Furth’s homes conjure something magical, with optimism for the power of design as a guide to life well-lived. His signature style — a mix of freewheeling creativity, scholarly historicism and unabashed joie de vivre — has been applied to an array of homes over the past fifteen years, resulting in interiors full of personality and calibrated elegance that are prized by celebrities, creatives, and collectors.

Furth grounds his interiors with a sense of place and people over trends, considering his collaborators’ individuality and the materials, objects, textures that tell their story. His sophisticated eye for color is the antidote to misconceptions of current mass beige-ness.

The first monograph from the internationally celebrated designer, OP! Optimistic Interiors shines a light on Furth’s ingenious approach, showcasing homes that strike a balance between modernity and tradition, aesthetics and functionality, all while leaving room for self-expression and that most important ingredient: joy.

The cover of this book includes a circular die-cut.

Heide Hendricks, Rafe Churchill, Laura Chávez Silverman, Asad Syrkett, Chris Motallini
ID: 17207
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The glorious Connecticut property of Heide Hendricks and Rafe Churchill (of the architecture and interior design firm Hendricks Churchill) illustrates how a late nineteenth-century farmhouse can be adapted for stylish and comfortable twenty-first-century living.

Rafe and Heide discovered their true home in a late 1800s New England farmhouse after a decade of living in Brooklyn, New York. The historic property, Ellsworth, is a showplace for their shared aesthetic and sensibility of designing for real life, and not for formality. At the core is a house of pared-down traditionalism with references to Shaker tranquility, Arts & Crafts practicality, and bohemian chic. Whimsical wallcoverings, striking colors, a mix of contemporary furniture and antiques, exciting works of art, and comfort abound—turning a workaday house from the nineteenth century into a creative laboratory of the twenty-first.

The house and its surroundings — a constant work in progress with evolving interiors, landscaping objectives, a reconfigured sunroom, a barn restoration, and planned hiking trails — have become an endless source of inspiration for the couple’s many projects, which include residences in New England, New York’s Hudson Valley, New York City, Oyster Bay, Boulder, and Austin. The narrative of the book addresses the couple’s design process in terms of architecture, decoration, and final installation. As many Americans are deciding to leave cities for calmer, more connected lives in the country, Heide and Rafe illustrate how this transition can be one of beauty and logic.

About the Author:

Rafe Churchill and Heide Hendricks are the husband-and-wife team behind Hendricks Churchill, an architectural and interior design firm that respects historic accuracy and modern relevance. Laura Chávez Silverman is a creative director and writer. Asad Syrkett is editor-in-chief of Elle Decor. Chris Mottalini is a photographer of architecture, interiors, and design.
