Quadrille Publishing

For almost 40 years, Tricia Guild has been setting the pace with her up-to-the-minute collections of fabrics, wallpapers and furnishings for interiors. Her extraordinary gift for colour, her innate understanding of space and proportion, her brilliance at mixing pattern and her elegant, feminine view of the world make her collections and the rooms in which they are applied uniquely stylish and beautiful.

Over the years her collections have varied from vibrant hot colours to cool shades of white, from floral prints in every shape and size to elegant stripes and plaids, yet in every case they are instantly recognisable as designs by Tricia Guild. To celebrate these four decades at the forefront of interior design, Tricia now presents a collection of international locations decorated with her latest and arguably most beautiful designs.

This is no retrospective - Tricia never looks back - but a confident statement encapsulating everything that is memorable about her, certain, style. Each of the fourteen locations featured in the book is viewed throughout, to show how Tricia enhances different types of room and connects spaces effortlessly and elegantly.

Whether a stunning modern Manhattan loft brightly specked with fruitdrop colour on a background of gleaming white or a Regency English manor house rustling with silks in subtle hues, a steel and glass Mediterranean beachfront retreat or a timeless Parisian apartment, every detail is perfectly considered.

As always, Elspeth Thompson's descriptive text interprets how each effect is achieved and James Merrell's state-of-the-art photography makes every room glow with light and colour.

From furniture and frames to traditional fabrics and from ceramics and glassware to garden furniture, this new, compact edition of a best-selling classic describes how to create a home that is quintessentially Provencal.

In this volume, we are shown the exteriors of some of the most beautiful houses in Provence, including French designer Edith Mezard's home and British designer Terence Conran's former French residence. Images of gold-hued walls, iron balustrades, leafy terraces, and painted shutters inspire in the reader's mind thoughts of balmy days in the Provencal sunshine. Aromatic lavender in terra-cotta pots and almond trees casting shade over cobbled courtyards evoke the magic of Provence-style living. From plain, rustic-style benches and beds to delicate walnut armchairs and elaborate dressers, all the painted and polished accoutrements of a Provencal home are featured. A section on ceramics and glassware explores the world of the Provencal potter and glassmaker: the materials they use, their techniques, and the distinctive styles of decoration are all described and illustrated in detail. And from tableware to what lies beneath, we trace the exotic history of Provencal textiles and explore a variety of traditional flower-print fabrics and intricate quilted and furnishing textiles.

The final section of the book provides extensive source details for decorating the home in Provencal style.

When we describe a home as being ‘full of character’, we mean that it’s individual or exceptional in some way. Character comes from a variety of sources, from the property itself to the people who live there, while the act of bringing character into a home is a layering process, one that starts with the bones of the building and finishes with the decor – the human element. In this new book, interiors expert Sally Coulthard explains just what it takes to turn an uninspiring space into a personality-packed home, whether it’s a cottage, an apartment or a modern family house. Each chapter focuses on a particular element – for example, the importance of family and loved ones, and making an interior feel like a social space – and explains why this element matters and how to bring it into your home. Inspirational features, in the form of ‘Keys to Character’ boxes, offer tips on incorporating individuality into even the most unpromising of spaces, from making the most of period details and mixing old and new furnishings to introducing artwork and displaying photographs.

  • A unique guide to introducing personality into your home, regardless of whether you live in an old or a new property
  • Explores both the architectural and the human elements necessary to create characterful interiors
  • Combines 250 inspirational images by leading interiors photographers with a wealth of practical advice

Though times have changed, the charm and grace of Southern style endures. It’s a design tradition that values gentility and gracious living above conspicuous consumption; history and mystery above the cutting edge; and hospitality above all else. Today’s Southern homes reflect a sense of style that remains in touch with the past as it embraces the present.

In this affectionate portrait of Southern homes, Frances Schultz and Paula S. Wallace lead a tour of more than twenty of the South’s proudest houses and most remarkable modern domiciles, proving that the legendary graciousness of the Southern home lives on in all forms – from seaside cottages to some truly over-the-top domains.

Despite the differences among these diverse homes, the most timeless aspects of Southern style abound, including:

- Using wrought iron for decorative elements both inside and outside the home
- Incorporating the porch as an essential room of the house
- Collecting antique silver to complement the contemporary table

Magnificent full-color photographs of each house show everything from the grand and elegant to the quaint and quirky, making this unique book a visual treat for anyone enchanted by the eternal grace of the American South.

Thirteen exquisite houses create a portrait of life in one of America’s most exclusive coastal destinations, along the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod.

Hutker Architects, led by founding principal Mark A. Hutker, has designed more than three hundred houses along the New England shore. A member of the close community on Martha’s Vineyard since his arrival in 1985, Hutker has become an expert at interpreting the ideal lifestyles of his clients within the respected traditions and restrictive codes of the beautiful but fragile environment.

In their design and construction, these houses honor the vernacular traditions of craft and indigenous materials, are deeply respectful of the cherished landscape, and demonstrate a lively range of solutions to building on the bluffs and dunes that line the shores of the Vineyard and Cape Cod. A working organic farm fulfills a family’s dream of simpler values; a luxurious renovation saves the best of an antique shingle cottage while transforming it for contemporary family life and a raised structure clad in naturally weathered boards combines the legacy of midcentury regional modern architecture with Cape Cod’s maritime tradition.

The firm is committed to the principle “Build once, well,” looking to the historic architecture of the region and the inherited experience of its carpenters and craftspeople as inspiration for contemporary design. The result is an architecture that is at once adaptable and livable, yet enduring, efficient, inevitable, and appropriate.

The houses sit lightly on the land, deferring to their surroundings, often built as a series of modest pavilions linked by passages or grouped to enclose an outdoor space. Creative design solutions — a light-filled gallery running the full length of a house, a continuous wall of sliding glass doors — make houses both open to views, but protective in a storm. Specially commissioned photography captures the craftsmanship and the settings of the houses, from dramatic bluffs overlooking the sea to secluded coves and rolling meadows filled with wildflowers, creating a unique portrait of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.
