About the Author:

Henrietta Thompson is an English writer, editor, creative consultant, and entrepreneur with many years’ experience working with some of the world’s most renowned brands and creative visionaries. Emanuele Coccia is an Italian philosopher teaching at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. He is known worldwide for his thinking on the centrality of plants in the theory of knowledge and his reflection around a new relationship between humanity and nature. He has been collaborating with several universities, including Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Harvard, and Columbia University. He is the author of books translated in several languages including The Life of Plants (2018).

About the Author:

Aaron Betsky is Dean of the Frank Lloyd School of Architecture, Taliesin West, in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. He has been deeply engaged with the world of architecture for almost fifty years and has written numerous monographs on the work of late 20th-century architects.

As we recognize the necessity of creating more sustainable and humane cities, Jackie Brookner’s most recent work, Urban Rain: Stormwater as Resource, points the way. How do we learn to not just see what we have chosen to ignore and consigned to waste, but to actually celebrate and utilize it? As Patricia Phillips says in her informative essay, “The artist uses stormwater as both a raw material to exploit and the problem to solve producing a fascinating feedback loop of aesthetic decisions and ecological imperatives.”

Founded in 1980 by its current directors Denis Valode and Jean Pistre, Valode & Pistre Architects is a highly sought-after architecture and design firm based in Paris. Their predominantly large-scale projects are distinguished by their high degree of diversity — from the Contemporary Art Museum of Bordeaux to the L’Oréal factory and more recently the T1 Tower La Défense in Paris. Their innovative designs for the Beaugrenelle Center on the Front of the Seine won the Global Award for Excellence in 2015 for its approach to urban development.
