The Czech Republic has long been a land of mystery and magic, home to alchemists, artists, and the original bohemians, all of them weavers of spells, creators of fantastic worlds of the imagination.

Internationally famous Czech photographer Jan Saudek is no exception, and equally as uncompromising in pursuit of his own unique vision. For over four decades Saudek has created a parallel photographic universe, a two-dimensional home full of longing, peopled with the most extraordinary characters and colored by desire. The timeless strength of his hand-tinted photographs lies in their poetic compositions and their forceful — at times ribald — pictorial language, with its overtones of medieval genre pictures and Baroque mythology. Rejecting the traditional beauty in his famous nude photographs, Saudek shows the distinctively different: old women, fat women, children; real people in tableaux vivants that remind us of everything from surreal early movies to fin-de-siecle carnival nights. They exist outside time, a uniquely colored and almost mythical theater of dreams.

Covering his debut in the 1950s through his lesser-known work to recent images, this dazzling collection offers us the true "velvet revolution," fertile and unsettling images from the dreams we might still have.

The photography of Rainer Schlegelmilch is renowned in motor racing circles, in a career spanning over half a century, with a number of books featuring his work to his credit. Since the early seventies he has concentrated mainly on Formula One, but prior to that he attended numerous international sports car races, like Le Mans, the Targa Florio and even the Can-Am series in the USA, and this book is a journal of that period from 1962 to 1973. It is presented essentially in a circuit-by-circuit format, rather than a chronological order, which provides one with an insight into the changes that occurred, not only to the cars, but to the circuits, safety features, fashions, etc through the decade.

The foreword is by six times 24 Hours of Le Man's winner Jacky Ickx, titled “The Splendour of Endurance Racing”, whilst the text is in eight languages by respected motoring writer David Tremayne This concentrates on some of the main protagonists of the era, like Enzo Ferrari, Ferdinand Piech, John Wyer, and drivers like Phil Hill, Henri Pescarolo, Jo Siffert, and Pedro Rodriguez. With a photographer of such calibre, the book is definitely picture-led, featuring a wealth of stunning period images predominantly in colour, but also a number of evocative B&W images. They feature not only images of the cars in action, but in static pose in the pits and paddock, with numerous ambience images of the drivers, pit crew, wives, girlfriends and spectators, a truly kaleidoscopic view of the endurance racing scene of the period.

For the photographs of this book Mario has cultivated one principle in his work in particular. He opened up the borders between fashion, beauty and nude photography and allowed his models to give the images their own interpretation. It is very important to him that the woman in his pictures can present themselves in the way they feel. Mario deliberately withdraws so as not to dominate the collaboration between model and photographer. The result are intensive, mysterious pictures with an oscillating mixture of style, eroticism and personal expression - pictures Mario Schmolka himself call "intimate portraits".

Looking Africa in the face. An homage to the continent of contrasts

"In the footsteps of courage and catastrophe [...] – a 30-year journey across the dark continent by the world's greatest photojournalist." - The Sunday Times Magazines, London

Sebastião Salgado is one the most respected photojournalists working today, his reputation forged by decades of dedication and powerful black-and-white images of distressed people taken in places where most wouldn’t dare to go. Although he has photographed around the globe, his work most heavily concentrates on Africa, where he has shot more than 40 reportage works over a period of 30 years. From the Dinka tribes in Sudan and the Himba in Namibia to gorillas and volcanoes in the lakes region to displaced peoples throughout the continent, Salgado shows us all facets of African life today. He knows exactly how to grab the essence of a moment and his images artfully teach us the disastrous effects of war, poverty, disease, and hostile climatic conditions. This stunning book brings together Salgado's photos in three parts: the first concentrates on the southern part of the continent (Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia), the second on the Great Lakes region (Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya), and the third on the Sub-Saharan region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Somalia, Chad, Mauritania, Senegal, Ethiopia). Texts are provided by renowned Mozambique novelist Mia Couto, who describes how today's Africa reflects the effects of colonization as well as the consequences of economic, social, and environmental crises.

Salgado’s Masterpiece: GENESIS – Earth Eternal. The companion volume to the world’s best-attended photo show

GENESIS is Sebastião Salgado’s love letter to the planet. It is the result of an epic eight-year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts, and oceans, the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society—the land and life of a still pristine planet. The GENESIS project, along with the Salgados’ Instituto Terra, is dedicated to showing the beauty of our planet, reversing the damage done to it, and preserving it for the future.

On over 30 trips—by foot, light aircraft, boats, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme temperatures and in sometimes dangerous conditions — Salgado has created a collection of images showing us nature, animals, and indigenous peoples in such intense beauty it takes our breath away. The reach is truly global. Through Salgado’s lens, one discovers the animal species and volcanoes of the Galápagos; the penguins, sea lions, cormorants, and whales of the South Atlantic; Brazilian alligators and jaguars; and African lions, leopards, and elephants. We travel over icebergs in the Antarctic, the volcanoes of Central Africa, the ravines of the Grand Canyon, and the glaciers of Alaska. We encounter the Stone Age Korowai people of West Papua, nomadic Dinka cattle farmers in Sudan, Nenets and their reindeer herds in the Arctic Circle, as well as the Mentawai jungle communities on islands west of Sumatra.

In characteristic monochrome, Salgado’s painterly notes are perfectly tuned to these sublime scenes, capturing sweeping aerial panoramas as much as the most intricate details and textures, from a reptilian skin to the fur coat of the Nenet people of northern Siberia. The exquisitely reproduced images are arranged not by theme but rather conceived as a journey around the globe, immersing them in Salgado’s vision of the Earth’s mesmerizing scale, order, and beauty.

This two-volume SUMO-size edition is designed and edited by Lélia Wanick Salgado and numbered and signed by Sebastião Salgado. Quarter-leather bound, it is presented with a bookstand in cherry wood veneer designed by Tadao Ando and a clothbound caption book explaining each stunning shot.

Collector’s Edition of 2,500 copies (No. 501–3,000), numbered and signed by Sebastião Salgado.

This thought-provoking collection of superb photographic landscapes explores the connection between land and national identity.

Is Europe a union in name only? How does the land we live on contribute to our culture? How does it divide or unite a collection of cultures? These important questions are at the root of this pictorial examination of Europe’s heterogeneous landscape. This book brings together images from 27 European Union nations and from prominent artists such as Olafur Eliasson (Denmark), Andreas Gursky (Germany), Carl De Keyzer (Belgium), Massimo Vitali (Italy), and Celine Clanet (France).

The book shows how landscape photography in particular offers critical insights into the characteristics of a place, inviting viewers, through a subjective lens, to form their own feelings toward that place. Organized into three broad geographic zones, it offers exquisite depictions of Europe’s wonderfully varied geography — shorelines and fjords, mountains and plains, farmland and urban centers — as it seeks to understand the source of the continent’s diversity and unity.
