Schapiro’s Heroes brings together an extraordinary collection of stories in the photo-journalistic tradition of people who have shaped our lives, our politics, and our tastes by the celebrated documentarian Steve Schapiro. In behind-the-scenes photographs, we visit the young Muhammad Ali and his Monopoly set, followed everywhere by the neighborhood kids; glimpse the warm family life and campaign of Robert Kennedy, who was so suddenly struck down; see Andy Warhol in photographs never before published; watch Ray Charles perform; visit the set with Samuel Beckett; and march alongside Martin Luther King Jr.

One of the most respected American documentary photographers, Steve Schapiro has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. His heroes are the iconic men and women who have influenced the political and cultural climate of our times. Schapiro’s Heroes is a rare and intimate glimpse of a major period of American history, photographed during the golden age of photojournalism by one of the major talents of the late twentieth century.

The photography of Rainer Schlegelmilch is renowned in motor racing circles, in a career spanning over half a century, with a number of books featuring his work to his credit. Since the early seventies he has concentrated mainly on Formula One, but prior to that he attended numerous international sports car races, like Le Mans, the Targa Florio and even the Can-Am series in the USA, and this book is a journal of that period from 1962 to 1973. It is presented essentially in a circuit-by-circuit format, rather than a chronological order, which provides one with an insight into the changes that occurred, not only to the cars, but to the circuits, safety features, fashions, etc through the decade.

The foreword is by six times 24 Hours of Le Man's winner Jacky Ickx, titled “The Splendour of Endurance Racing”, whilst the text is in eight languages by respected motoring writer David Tremayne This concentrates on some of the main protagonists of the era, like Enzo Ferrari, Ferdinand Piech, John Wyer, and drivers like Phil Hill, Henri Pescarolo, Jo Siffert, and Pedro Rodriguez. With a photographer of such calibre, the book is definitely picture-led, featuring a wealth of stunning period images predominantly in colour, but also a number of evocative B&W images. They feature not only images of the cars in action, but in static pose in the pits and paddock, with numerous ambience images of the drivers, pit crew, wives, girlfriends and spectators, a truly kaleidoscopic view of the endurance racing scene of the period.

For the photographs of this book Mario has cultivated one principle in his work in particular. He opened up the borders between fashion, beauty and nude photography and allowed his models to give the images their own interpretation. It is very important to him that the woman in his pictures can present themselves in the way they feel. Mario deliberately withdraws so as not to dominate the collaboration between model and photographer. The result are intensive, mysterious pictures with an oscillating mixture of style, eroticism and personal expression - pictures Mario Schmolka himself call "intimate portraits".

Looking Africa in the face. An homage to the continent of contrasts

"In the footsteps of courage and catastrophe [...] – a 30-year journey across the dark continent by the world's greatest photojournalist." - The Sunday Times Magazines, London

Sebastião Salgado is one the most respected photojournalists working today, his reputation forged by decades of dedication and powerful black-and-white images of distressed people taken in places where most wouldn’t dare to go. Although he has photographed around the globe, his work most heavily concentrates on Africa, where he has shot more than 40 reportage works over a period of 30 years. From the Dinka tribes in Sudan and the Himba in Namibia to gorillas and volcanoes in the lakes region to displaced peoples throughout the continent, Salgado shows us all facets of African life today. He knows exactly how to grab the essence of a moment and his images artfully teach us the disastrous effects of war, poverty, disease, and hostile climatic conditions. This stunning book brings together Salgado's photos in three parts: the first concentrates on the southern part of the continent (Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia), the second on the Great Lakes region (Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya), and the third on the Sub-Saharan region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Somalia, Chad, Mauritania, Senegal, Ethiopia). Texts are provided by renowned Mozambique novelist Mia Couto, who describes how today's Africa reflects the effects of colonization as well as the consequences of economic, social, and environmental crises.

Salgado’s Masterpiece: GENESIS – Earth Eternal. The companion volume to the world’s best-attended photo show

GENESIS is Sebastião Salgado’s love letter to the planet. It is the result of an epic eight-year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts, and oceans, the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society—the land and life of a still pristine planet. The GENESIS project, along with the Salgados’ Instituto Terra, is dedicated to showing the beauty of our planet, reversing the damage done to it, and preserving it for the future.

On over 30 trips—by foot, light aircraft, boats, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme temperatures and in sometimes dangerous conditions — Salgado has created a collection of images showing us nature, animals, and indigenous peoples in such intense beauty it takes our breath away. The reach is truly global. Through Salgado’s lens, one discovers the animal species and volcanoes of the Galápagos; the penguins, sea lions, cormorants, and whales of the South Atlantic; Brazilian alligators and jaguars; and African lions, leopards, and elephants. We travel over icebergs in the Antarctic, the volcanoes of Central Africa, the ravines of the Grand Canyon, and the glaciers of Alaska. We encounter the Stone Age Korowai people of West Papua, nomadic Dinka cattle farmers in Sudan, Nenets and their reindeer herds in the Arctic Circle, as well as the Mentawai jungle communities on islands west of Sumatra.

In characteristic monochrome, Salgado’s painterly notes are perfectly tuned to these sublime scenes, capturing sweeping aerial panoramas as much as the most intricate details and textures, from a reptilian skin to the fur coat of the Nenet people of northern Siberia. The exquisitely reproduced images are arranged not by theme but rather conceived as a journey around the globe, immersing them in Salgado’s vision of the Earth’s mesmerizing scale, order, and beauty.

This two-volume SUMO-size edition is designed and edited by Lélia Wanick Salgado and numbered and signed by Sebastião Salgado. Quarter-leather bound, it is presented with a bookstand in cherry wood veneer designed by Tadao Ando and a clothbound caption book explaining each stunning shot.

Collector’s Edition of 2,500 copies (No. 501–3,000), numbered and signed by Sebastião Salgado.

This thought-provoking collection of superb photographic landscapes explores the connection between land and national identity.

Is Europe a union in name only? How does the land we live on contribute to our culture? How does it divide or unite a collection of cultures? These important questions are at the root of this pictorial examination of Europe’s heterogeneous landscape. This book brings together images from 27 European Union nations and from prominent artists such as Olafur Eliasson (Denmark), Andreas Gursky (Germany), Carl De Keyzer (Belgium), Massimo Vitali (Italy), and Celine Clanet (France).

The book shows how landscape photography in particular offers critical insights into the characteristics of a place, inviting viewers, through a subjective lens, to form their own feelings toward that place. Organized into three broad geographic zones, it offers exquisite depictions of Europe’s wonderfully varied geography — shorelines and fjords, mountains and plains, farmland and urban centers — as it seeks to understand the source of the continent’s diversity and unity.

A must for any lover of elegant erotic photography

It takes enviable skill and dedication to achieve mastery in the arts. Yet even more remarkable is the artist who widens his scope to venture beyond his already widely acclaimed signature style. Few would dare to even consider such a risk… However, in Senza Parole, Marc Lagrange is audacious enough to make that thrilling leap as he boldly showcases a broad array of distinctive approaches — everything from starkly straight nude studies to Lagrange’s more typically intricate and exotic compositions. The photographer’s devoted followers will still find the dream-like eroticism he is known for, yet, in this work, each photograph is one of a kind, with Lagrange’s hallmark of technical perfection. As one would expect from Lagrange, each tableau is carefully configured with not a single detail left to chance

Marc Lagrange's fascination with sculpture led him to seek out settings that somehow embody the sculptural arts. For this oeuvre, he travelled to Pietrasanta (Italy), which has long enjoyed the patronage of artists, due to the region's fine marble, which has been treasured since the days of Michelangelo. Staying closer to home, the iconic "Handelsbeurs" in Antwerp (Belgium) was an irresistible temptation: an architectural marvel if ever there was one. The last visit was Paris, where an artist's loft filled with baroque decadence created the perfect atmosphere for a Fellini-inspired shoot.

About the author:

Marc Lagrange has developed a reputation for his opulent and timeless settings — a world where sensuality and seduction both play key parts. It is desire rather than its fulfilment that fascinated Lagrange. Not surprisingly, his otherworldly images have met with critical acclaim, being collected and exhibited in all corners of the globe. Lagrange’s previous publications include teNeues’s highly successful, Diamonds and Pearls.

- A significant landmark in Lagrange’s esteemed publishing career
- The all-new work by Lagrange showcases his multi-faced talent

In this unique book, photographic legend Elliott Erwitt presents a series of vignettes, each showing a sequence of photographs shot just moments apart. The characters portrayed vary widely from infants to the elderly to dogs. The themes range from the buzz of street life to lovers in a casual embrace. True to Erwitt’s distinctive style, these images are un-staged, and the subjects’ spontaneity shines through — heartbeat by heartbeat. Gifted storyteller that he is, Erwitt gives you a sense of what happens next, the end point being sometimes comic, sometimes poignant, and often with a wink.

- Another masterpiece from one of the most perceptive photographers of our time
- An essential volume for any library of the visual arts.

In these spectacular photographs taken in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara Natural Reserve in Kenya, Anup Shah reveals African wildlife as never before, through the use of remote hidden cameras planted across the plains. Organized by season from January through December, here is life on the plains in all its dynamism and vitality. Readers find themselves literally face-to-face with hyenas and cheetahs as they feed on a kill; elephants communing at a watering hole; playful lion cubs; wildebeests hauling themselves out of a river; a leopard growling a warning; and inquisitive monkeys gazing at their reflections in the camera lens. Many of these animals have noticed the camera, to them an odd device that makes a strange clicking sound. Captions written by Shah tell the story of the daily ebb and flow of life on the African plains.

A tribute to the city of Los Angeles from YellowKorner photographer, Serge Ramelli

Photographer Serge Ramelli turns his lens on the vast and complex coastal metropolis of Los Angeles, whose name “City of Angels” reflects its Spanish-Mexican influence, although it is most familiarly and affectionately known by its acronym: “LA.” Despite the city’s relatively short history, this Californian hub has been the global center of the film industry for over a century. Stars and starlets have always felt at home beneath their celestial counterparts as seen in a twinkling LA sky captured in Ramelli’s celebrated night photography. A place of contrasts and stark topography, Los Angeles is well situated for drama and spectacle — flanked by mountains to the north and east, demarcating the San Fernando Valley, opening to the south and west onto Santa Monica Bay, and the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Beyond Paramount Pictures Studio and a breathtaking landscape, the Los Angeles map boasts universities and museums, concert amphitheaters and opera houses, and is home to cutting-edge air and spacecraft industries. It is a geographic region as well as a place in our collective imagination that embodies the American Dream: freedom, space, home ownership, ambition, and pursuit of luxuries, large and small — while the accompanying urban density, crime, and smog are harsh reminders of its flip side. Featuring a stunning selection of vibrant and varied photographs, this Los Angeles photo book from YellowKorner star Serge Ramelli captures all the dichotomies and allure of this storied Californian metropolis. Candid and posed, color and black and white, romantic and documentary, Ramelli’s images is a dynamic visual journey through a fascinating and seductive city. www.photoserge.com

In Serge Ramelli's photos, people are a secondary subject. What matters is the setting, the mood, the light, the environment. Typical elements and landmarks are shown as no one has quite seen before, except, perhaps, in a dream, or in a movie. In his unique and masterful way, Ramelli imbues a cinematic quality in the everyday. The viewer is spellbound by the suspense and suggestion of his images: what will happen next?

Anyone familiar with Ramelli's black-and-white photographs of New York will marvel at the different sides of the city he captures in color-the luminosity of the yellow cabs and traffic lights and the interplay of natural and artificial light. Times Square, Broadway, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty-everyone has a different, mostly romantic, association with the many icons of this storied city, perhaps inspired by a book, a movie, a song, or a visit. That poetic trace, and many more, are sure to be found in this photo tribute, which reveals both the treasured NYC hotspots and lesser-known corners of the metropolis.

A beautiful New York photography book unfolding in Ramelli's characteristic cinematic style-now, at last, in colour.
