An ode to Venice and all its charms — beautifully captured in breathtaking color photography

With its breathtaking marble palazzi and cathedrals, labyrinth-like azure canals, and palpable spellbinding energy, Venice is a veritable feast for all the senses — and especially the eyes. Whether through casual iPhone snaps or professional-grade images, Venice is, without a doubt, one of the most photographed locations on earth. But it’s never been captured quite like this before. Inspired by its myriad charms and undeniable allure, French photographer Serge Ramelli set out to photograph the mythic Italian city with his signature dramatic flair. Ramelli interprets Venice with a fascinating cinematic-infused style of color photography. From its bustling sites — such as the Piazza San Marco, Rialto Bridge, and Grand Canal — to its mysterious narrow alleyways, Ramelli takes readers on a stunning visual journey through Venice — bathed in morning mist, at sunrise or sunset, viewers can feel the city’s irresistible seduction and secrets. A shot of the opulent Saint Mark’s Basilica — devoid of its usual crowds of visitors — evokes a quiet beauty. While a scene of gondolas floating on tranquil lagoon waters invites quiet reflection. For longtime visitors, lifelong natives, aspiring tourists, and everyone in between, Serge Ramelliʼs Venice truly reflects the poetry, splendor, and romance that characterize this beloved Italian city — making it the perfect title for any serious library of photography, travel, or art.

Daniella Midenge

Видавництво: teNeues

The photography of Daniella Midenge is the perfect symbiosis of artistic photography, erotic appeal, and an unforgettable signature style

Strong women, accentuated by their beauty and sensuality, are the hallmark of fashion photographer Daniella Midenge. Her pictures evoke intimacy and passion, beyond the outer shell. Black-and-white or color, her photos have an incredible power of expression that draws the eye of men and women alike. Her unique style still shows the influence of photographers like Peter Lindbergh and Herb Ritts. As a woman and a model herself, Daniella Midenge is at home both behind and in front of the camera, directing, producing, doing hair and make-up, retouching — all of which she does herself. It’s no wonder she is reluctant to let others handle the processing of her photographs. Growing up in a creative family, her love of images, faces, shapes, and exotic places combined with her work as an oil painting restorer — all contributed to the many twists and turns on Midenge’s path to photography. After her first contact with a camera, she never looked back. For the first time, Daniella Midenge’s best work is collected in a single volume: one that will leave you wanting to see more.

DANIELLA MIDENGE is a self-taught photographer and an enthusiast of contrasts. Her first magazine cover was for Marie Claire, shot in New York 2010, starring top models Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo. Other illustrious magazines in her portfolio include Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and ELLE. Her client base continues to expand with commissions from major companies like H&M and Swarovski.

In addition, she is occasionally in front of the camera herself and is captured by Ellen Von Unwerth in her new magazine with the same name as this book hits the stores.

In Daniella Midenge’s very first coffee table book, Sex & Cigarettes, there are of course a few self-portraits included.

"Daniella is a natural force and through her beautiful piercing eyes, she sees the world from her own magical perspective that she transcends to powerful images... with her charisma she inspires the person she photographs to let go of layers and to be apart of her fantasy during that certain moment ... The photos she took of my daughter Blue are iconic."

In the book Shades of a Woman Guido Argentini began exploring different levels and nuances of the female nature. Shot both in color and black and white the images are telling a story in one single picture, like single frames taken from a movie.

Women, photographed in USA, Thailand, Italy and Cuba are still the source of inspiration of Guido Argentini's photographs.

Argentini’s aim is that women- the muses who have guided him along his path- up until now- being the subjects of his pictures or even simply those who witness his photos, can identify themselves in these stories.

Guido Argentini was born in Florence, Italy. He studied Medicine for three years at the university of Florence. At 23 he decided to turn his passion for photography into a profession and started to shoot fashion and beauty. Since 1990 he has lived in the USA, in Los Angeles. His work has been published by some of the leading magazines in the world such as Marie Claire, Men'sHealth, Panorama, Playboy, Vogue, Max, Maxim and many others.

Shoot gathers over 20 photographers whose work focuses on capturing a moment rather than elaborate lighting setups or controlled, manufactured scenarios.

Employing the most basic photographic tools - a single-lens reflex camera and natural light - they must rely on their instincts and their ability to interact with a situation to create a dynamic image. This freewheeling approach reflects an era in which we are increasingly bombarded by images, and the emotional resonance of images has become an important part of our visual vocabulary.

The book documents the influence of an older generation of art photographers, such as the legendary Nan Goldin and Wolfgang Tillmans, and expands on a younger generation of photographers, including Tim Barber and J. H. Engström, to show how this style has gained traction and influence.

One of the most famous and popular photographers of his time, Jeanloup Sieff photographed some of the most beautiful women and men of his era.

This wide-ranging collection of his work captures some of Jeanloup Sieff’s most famous photographs spanning a career of nearly 40 years. These nudes and fashion shots portray more than beautiful bodies draped, or not, with beautiful clothes; Sieff’s personal interest in whatever lay before his camera, and his continually evolving style, render these photographs pieces of art. Whether his assignment was for »Glamour«, »Vogue«, or »Harper’s Bazaar«; whether his subject was Yves Montand, Rudolf Nureyev, Twiggy, or Catherine Deneuve, Sieff was never afraid to take chances with location, equipment, lighting, or convention. Rounding out this exciting monograph are texts from his favorite models as well as essays by Frank Horvarth and »Purple Magazine’s« editor Olivier Zahm.

Whenever Gerhard Richter goes to Sils (Switzerland), he always takes photographs, some of which he paints and adds to his Atlas . Others he considers independent works of art, and has included them in projects such as the exhibition "Nietzsche Hau in Sils". In his painted images, a photographed reality is combined with the effects of painting. In these painted photographs, the different levels of reality in the photography interact with others from the painting. The realism (as a photographic representation) and the abstraction (as a painting which is not figurative), show themselves to be redundant when the inherent categories of the created image dissolve into one.

Highly Artistic Black & White Photography

“These are moments I usually experience with eyes closed in rapture, moments that say “Yes! Take me, touch me, have me!” And because I know what I see in the pictures actually feels like, I experience a range of different emotions while browsing through it: the memory of recent events is re-awakened, my intellect is stimulated and my physical awareness heightened. It is discovery and recognition at the same time.

I am still coming across photos that show rare perspectives and capture unusual moments never seen before, despite the fact that, in the area of erotic photography, there is really nothing new under the sun. Perhaps Norbert Guthier’s secret is to avoid repeating erotic stereotypes to allow something new to emerge. And the fact that I am familiar with this new thing, but virtually never see it in visual form, is what makes this book truly artistic.”

Sophie Andresky
