Men to Avoid in Art and Life pairs classical fine art with modern captions that epitomize the spirit of mansplaining.

This hilarious book perfectly captures those relatable moments when a man explains to a woman a subject about which he knows considerably less than she does.
Situations include men sharing keen insight on the female anatomy, an eloquent defence of catcalling or offering sage advice about horseback riding to the woman who owns the horse.

- These less qualified men of antiquity dish out mediocrity as if it's pure genius
- For the women who have endured overbearing men over the centuries
- Written with hilariously painful accuracy

"Now, when you're riding a horse, you need to make sure to keep a good grip on the reins." "These are my horses."

Through cringe-induced empathy, this timeless gift book of shared experiences unites women across history in one of the most powerful forms of resistance: laughter.

- Started as a Twitter thread and quickly gained widespread popularity.
- Makes a perfect book for women and feminists with a wry sense of humor, millennials, anyone who loves memes and Internet humor, as well as history and art buffs.

The COVID-19 outbreak has changed the world with enormous effects on politics and society. Can we manage this global challenge?

The coronavirus pandemic has caused unprecedented stress tests for the healthcare system and an enormous challenge for politics and society, resulting in unforeseeable effects on the economy.

Cartoonists from all over the world have had their own take on the crisis. Their drawings and paintings in this illustrated book comment on topical events - straight to the point and with a good dose of humor. The lockdown created funny behaviors: hoarding of toilet paper and DIY haircuts as well as video conferencing in sweatpants.

Unfortunately, social isolation, fear of the future, and economic losses due to short-time working are also part of our new everyday life. The crisis shows which professions are essential to the economic system. Social imbalances and inequalities are becoming abundantly clear. At the same time, issues that demanded urgent action before the outbreak of the virus seems to be forgotten, like the refugee crisis, global warming, and the world economic crisis.

Paper. Pen. Pandemic. critically comments on the current situation and makes us rethink our priorities!

Martin Parr and Richard Hollingham

Видавництво: Laurence King Publishing

In the 1950s the space race between the USA and the USSR was well and truly on, and was for both a matter of pride and propaganda. But before man ventured into the cosmos, his four-legged friends would pave the way for space exploration.

The first canine cosmonaut was Laika, meaning ‘barker’. The little stray could never have anticipated that she would one day float 200 miles above the Moscow streets. She would be canonized as a proletarian hero, appearing on stamps, postcards and souvenirs. Her successors were Belka and Strelka, the first dogs to successfully return safely to Earth, and with them, the cult of the space dog was born.

This fascinating book tells the story of the space dogs, illustrated with legendary photographer Martin Parr’s vintage space-dog memorabilia. In a regime that eschewed celebrating individual achievement, these dogs became Soviet superstars, with a vast array of merchandise, books and films in their honour.

About the Author:

Internationally acclaimed photographer Martin Parr is also known for his astonishing and witty collections of twentieth-century ephemera. Previous publications include Boring Postcards, The Last Resort and a retrospective of his work, Martin Parr. He has also been involved in several TV and film collaborations, and in 2014 set up The Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol, UK.

Richard Hollingham is a multi-award-winning science and space journalist, BBC radio presenter and producer. Space correspondent for BBC future and presenter of the Space Boffins Podcast, Richard is also a video producer and launch commentator for the European Space Agency. He is a regular visitor to Russia, and has reported from space centres around the world, including the Baikonur cosmodrome and mission control Moscow.

Dive into an art form existing at the intersection of design, commerce, and abstract expression.

Cut, paste, create: while collage was conceived in the early 1900's, it seems to be the perfect form of expression for the 21st-century, with all its juxtapositions, eclecticism, and strange bedfellows. In our present age of collage, the simple act of mixing together different elements allows us to question our reality and make new worlds.

The Age of Collage showcases a new crop of artistic vanguards advancing the medium’s possibilities, piece-by-piece. Equipped with a craft knife, paintbrush, stylus, scissors, or tablet, a collage artist’s toolkit is as varied as their creations and this book brings their work back to the paper page.

From the poignant and provocative to the comic and curious, The Age of Collage features the creations of more than 60 artists. Packed with visuals and a number of in-depth profiles revealing what drives the hands behind the pieces, this comprehensive volume is a celebration of the enduring power of collage.

The Age of Collage features work by Adam Pendleton, Amie Dicke, Anthony Zinonos, Collier Schorr, David Noonan, Dennis Busch, Eva Koťátková, Jesse Draxler, Johanna Goodman, Kelly Maker, Kensuke Koike, Larry Achiampong, Lola Dupre, Matthieu Bourel, Penny Slinger, Peter Horvath, Sergei Sviatchenko, Weronika Gęsicka, Yinka Shonibare, and many others.

This book presents the mysterious formula that rules art, nature, and science.

This book deals with the Divine Proportion, a secret code that rules art, nature, and science. It is known by many names: Golden Mean, Sacred Cut and Phi are only a few; and it is not by chance that the Divine Proportion was given its name. It has been called divine because over thousands of years it has been deemed to be so.

The Divine Proportion reveals a number of simple patterns: It is seen in the seed patterns of fruits, the family tree of bees, the pyramids of Egypt, Gothic cathedrals, Renaissance paintings, the human body, shells...the list is endless. Mathematicians use the Greek symbol F to represent the Divine Proportion and equate it to a number that is defined by the ratio (1 + v5) / 2 or 1.6180339... Numbers do little, however, in describing this unique ratio that is found everywhere in nature and for 2500 years has been an aesthetic guide in art and architecture.

Beginning with calculations found on clay tablets in ancient Babylon, the story of Divine Proportion can be traced alongside the history of numbers to the fractals of the digital age. As its many forms unfold we uncover the Golden Rectangle in the Parthenon, Golden Spirals in the human inner ear, a Golden Angle in the petal patterns of a rose, and the Fibonacci numbers in lilies, daisies, pineapples, and in our own DNA. With its natural balance and elegant beauty, the Divine Proportion is a perpetual reminder that our hope for regeneration and continuity lies in realizing the meaningful and harmonious relationship of all the parts to the whole.

Robert Hughes
ID: 8993
Видавництво: Thames & Hudson

This legendary book has been universally hailed as the best, the most readable and the most provocative account of modern art ever written.

Through each of the thematic chapters Hughes keeps his story grounded in the history of the 20th century, demonstrating how modernism sought to describe the experience of that era and showing how for many key art movements this was a task of vital importance.

The way in which Hughes brings that vitality and immediacy back through the well-chosen example and well-turned phrase is the heart of this book's success.

About the Author:

Robert Hughes (1938 – 2012) was an Australian-born art critic, writer, and producer of television documentaries.
