The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) has been rehabilitating existing parks and creating new ones for more than 20 years in the Muslim world, but also in the West. The chalet is a building type that enjoys lasting popularity all over the world. Dating back to the herdsman’s hut in the Alpine region, it became a longed-for destination and the most preferred holiday domicile in the 19th century with the emerging fascination with the Alps. Today, architects and designers are primarily inspired by the constantly redefined interplay of sublime nature, traditional architecture, regional building typologies, individual design, and modern formal language that pushes them to reach magnificent creative peaks.

About the Author:

After completing a degree in architecture in architecture Sibylle Kramer worked for gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners in different functions, such as Chief Representative in Beijing. In 2001 she set up her successful architecture practice in Hamburg which has received various awards and competition prizes. Kramer is also a frequent participant on selection committees for architectural competitions.

About the Author:

A native of Manchester, England, Phillip James Dodd attended the prestigious Prince of Wales' Institute of Architecture in London - where he was taught by many of the architects featured in this book. He received a Degree in Architecture from his hometown university, before moving to America, where he gained a Masters in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame. As a well-regarded expert on classical architecture and interiors, Phillip has worked for some of the most recognized residential architectural firms in America. He is a Fellow Emeritus at the Institute of Classical Architecture (ICA), and Classical America (CA), where from 2006 to 2009 he served as the jury coordinator for the annual Arthur Ross Awards. He has taught classical design at the ICA & CA and at Notre Dame, and has been a guest critic for the Interiors Departments at Parson's School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
