A rich sourcebook of design ideas for incorporating workspaces into domestic spaces

Growing numbers of us work not only from home, but from anywhere; job flexibility has become a key requirement for employers and workers alike. This, in turn, has created new challenges for architects and designers, many of whom themselves start out working from home. They are tackling demand head-on with innovative solutions that allow clients to transform their spaces to suit a wide range of needs, from multifunctional studios to homes that seamlessly combine work and family life.

Divided into five thematic sections, HomeWork explores the exciting variety of ways that the workplace can be integrated into the domestic environment. From standalone multifunctional furniture to mobile room dividers and dynamic solutions that fold out or pop up to create new work areas, each design addresses the unique needs of the space, client and working practices for which it was required, and tackles new questions about the rapidly evolving relationship between work and domestic life in the 21st century.

Anyone seeking fresh ideas on how to strike the perfect balance between living and working at home will find this an essential and timely resource.

Contents List:

Introduction • Mobile/Static • Horizontal/Vertical • Fold-outs/Partitions • Pockets/Pop-ups • Integrated/Detached • Project Credits • Index of Designers

This book presents some of the best examples of hostel design from around the world, based on a combination of their interior design, comfort and services.

The majority of the establishments shown are located in major cities, although some are in rural settings.

There are hostels in historic buildings, such as the old Medical Science University in Amsterdam or a 200-year old Venetian palace, while others are situated in modern buildings or converted houses. Some of them even offer terraces, restaurants and reading rooms...but all have been designed with one common factor in mind - creating a friendly and welcoming space for travellers who don't mind sharing a room.

Bright homes with a splash: discover colorful interiors that will make you smile and feel alive.

House of Joy explores the best and brightest in playful interior design. Colors jump from furniture to kaleidoscopic walls. Lines become sinuous and bold. The palette is warm and full, and unafraid of extravagance. The spaces in this book showcase a range of historic influences, imaginatively updated to the present.

A squiggly line connects bold post-war color schemes to the exuberant work of Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group. The vibrancy and eclecticism of 1990s decor is echoed in recent movements injecting rainbow hues into urban greige.

Get inspired by the designers who’ve had enough of the drab and somber. House of Joy is the perfect antidote for those who are starved of color and patterns, and who want their rooms to be bursting with life.

Видавництво: Rizzoli

Highlighting thirty-five spectacular recently completed houses overlooking sea, lake, river, and ocean, selected for beauty and variety across the globe, Houses by the Shore features homes that demonstrate the extraordinarily diverse ways that today's leading architects and interior designers build and design homes on the water and new approaches homeowners are taking to life on the shore.

Frequently elegant and uncluttered, these houses serve as models of smart and often exquisite design with lots of ideas for homeowners who don't necessarily live in a waterfront home, but who wish to have something of that appeal and sensitivity in their own space.
A range of projects encompassing myriad geographic and cultural inspirations show some of the world's most inviting residences, built in stone and glass, in wood and steel and concrete. The houses vary in size and style, though all within the realm of the modern, from open plan homes that include terraces and rooms that flow from indoors to out, to spaces flooded with light and views. Each house is photographed comprehensively with detailed interior and exterior pictures and plans, and placed into context through the lens of widely respected editor Oscar Riera Ojeda and descriptive texts written by design critic Byron Hawes, to give readers a privileged look at the best of shore-side residential architecture.

With its beautiful modernist homes set beside the golden sands of the gulf coast of Mexico or upon the romantic islands of Greece, from Finland to South Africa to New Zealand, Houses by the Shore is a paean to rooms with a view.

ID: 15705
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Following up on their much-heralded first volume of interiors, this new publication presents the next evolution of Atelier AM-virtuosos of mixing antiques and museum-quality artworks with pedigreed design.

"Alexandra and Michael Misczynski, the wife-and-husband team behind the Los Angeles-based AD100 design firm Atelier AM, are standard-bearers for the...concepts of quality and connoisseurship. In an image-driven culture, where novelty and extravagance so often masquerade as virtues, the Misczynskis remain steadfast in their belief that true style can emerge only from substance." -- Architectural Digest
Atelier AM has been the go-to designers for true connoisseurs since they opened their office in 2002. Taking on very few projects each year, each Atelier AM home is a complete masterwork--where design and art are fully integrated into the architecture and landscape for a rich and immersive experience.

Eight new homes are featured in this new volume, and each features Atelier AM's signature reverence for patina mixed with the new: reclaimed wood beams and well-loved vintage modern furniture pieces mingles comfortably with century-old artifacts and antiques. The projects in this volume show a deep understanding of design history -- from Spanish Colonial and English Classicism to contemporary. The mix of modern and ancient acknowledges and celebrates both the past and the future of design. With photography by their long-term collaborator Francois Halard, and insightful texts by Mayer Rus, Houses: Atelier AM promises to be as rich and satisfying as an Atelier AM home itself.

How They Decorated illustrates some of the great rooms of the twentieth century, whose stylish residents influence our tastes today.

Gloria Vanderbilt cleverly noted, “Decorating is autobiography.” Reflecting that truism, the interiors in this book capture the individual approaches of these icons of style: Bunny Mellon’s spare all-American elegance; Hélène Rochas’s refined sophistication; Vanessa Bell’s colourful bohemianism; Mona von Bismarck’s breezy opulence; and Georgia O’Keeffe’s earthy chic. Author P. Gaye Tapp analyzes each of her subjects’ refined way of living, how she embellished her residences (or left them elegantly stark), and the long-lasting effects on today’s generation of designers and connoisseurs of beauty.

The book is presented in four sections that describe the aesthetic approaches that the ladies took in decorating their abodes: “The Fashionably Chic”, “The Unconventional Eye”, “In the Grand Manner”, and “Legacy Style”. Each interior illustrates the crucial aspect of the lady’s definitive taste. Some worked closely with decorating legends such as John Fowler, Albert Hadley, Billy Baldwin, Syrie Maugham, and Jean-Michel Frank. Others took to the task of decorating single-handedly — like Pauline Trigère, Sybil Connolly, Vita Sackville-West, and Fleur Cowles. The interiors of these trendsetting ladies defied their time and inspire and delight to this day. In How They Decorated, one can learn from the most notable style muses of the last century.

About the Authors:

P. Gaye Tapp is the creator and author of the highly regarded blog Little Augury and an interior designer for more than twenty-five years.
Charlotte Moss is a noted American interior designer and author.

Hudson Modern showcases the stunning new houses in the Hudson River Valley that embrace their dramatic settings in this popular and culturally bountiful region.

As the birthplace of American landscape painting, the Hudson River Valley has long been a refuge from the city and a laboratory for new aesthetic expression. Today, thanks to its ascendant reputation as a weekend utopia, architects are extending that tradition into the built environment. Designing residences that revere local climate, landscape, and history in a distinctly modernist language, these talents are sowing a new Hudson River school of architectural thought.

Hudson Modern surveys this emerging domestic architecture, featuring nearly twenty houses that integrate with site and region through composition, scale, and materials, and which strike a balance between innovation and rootedness. A reconstructed midcentury house accented in cedar, walnut, and bluestone by Joel Sanders and landscaped by the late Diana Balmori blurs the edge of habitation and nature. KieranTimberlake revises the classic vision of a glass box by cladding a home on a rocky site in Pound Ridge in a tapestry of steel, aluminum, copper, and glass. In Rhinebeck, Steven Holl experiments with a radical form that has both ecological and social dimensions.

Author David Sokol presents these and numerous other examples of design-forward residences that are responsive to terrain, building vernacular, and cultural legacy. Together, the new Hudson Valley houses point a way forward for rural living in the twenty-first century.

About the Author:

David Sokol is a New York-based journalist specializing in architecture and design. He is a contributing editor at Architectural Record and Cultured magazines, and he writes regularly for Azure, Departures, and multiple other publications. Before he focused solely on writing about the built environment, Sokol was managing editor of I.D. magazine. Since then he has authored several books, including The Modern Architecture Pop-Up Book and the series Nordic Architects, and taught graduate-level writing at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Color is powerful – it can change our moods or raise our spirits. It can be positively life-enhancing, yet so many of us struggle with choosing the right shades for our home, instead falling back on a safe but unadventurous palette of bland neutrals.

In this, his third book, celebrated interior stylist Hans Blomquist reveals his lifelong passion for color and the way in which it can affect our emotions. Color can soothe, enchant or excite. And as Hans demonstrates, it has the ability to render rooms cool and calming, dynamic and stimulating or moody and intriguing.

As ever, Hans draws his inspiration from the treasures of the natural world, exploring shades from the dazzling optic white of newly fallen snow to the fiery crimson heart of a newly unfurled poppy and the inky canopy of the midnight sky. Divided into five sections – Dark, Pale, Soft, Natural and Bright – In the Mood for Colour will make you see color in a completely different light.

About the author:

Hans Blomquist is an art director and stylist whose evocative, painterly style is highly sought after by many prestigious brands.
