Who can resist the magic of beautiful wrought ironwork? What artists in iron have wrought over the centuries in ornaments and decorations is shown in this book through hundreds of captivating photographs. Thorough attention is paid to the restoration of wrought iron through discussions of techniques and various materials.
The ironwork examples are organized according to the uses of ironwork, such as gratings that protect doors and windows, entries and gates from Europe in the Middle Ages, through the artistic creations of the 17th and 18th centuries up to works of our own day.
Balconies and stairways, arbors, fencing, and church gratings provide exceptional opportunities for beautiful wrought iron artistry. Look and learn, and be inspired.
The designs in this book have been derived from floor mosaics and wall decorations in a number of Italian churches, all of them architectural masterpieces. Most of these churches were built between the 11th and 14th centuries AD. One exception is the Church of San Vitale in Ravenna, which was built as early as the 6th century AD and is a prime example of Byzantine architecture and decoration.
Decorative Patterns from Italy contains a selection of designs derived mostly from floor decorations found in some of Italy’s most beautiful mediæval and early Renaissance churches. For this book, these patterns have been carefully digitised and included on the enclosed CD-Rom.
Agile Rabbit Editions contain stunning images for use as a graphic resource, or inspiration. All the illustrations are stored in high-resolution format on the enclosed free CD-ROM and are ready to use for professional quality printed media and web page design. The pictures can also be used to produce postcards, or to decorate your letters, flyers, etc. They can be imported directly from the CD into most design, image-manipulation, illustration, word-processing and e-mail programs; no installation is required. For most applications, single images can be used free of charge. Please consult our section on image rights for conditions.
