Elizabeth Semmelhack is the creative director and senior curator of the Bata Shoe Museum, and her work focuses on the intersections of fashion, economics, and gender with a particular interest in the history of footwear. The Bauhaus, the school of art and design founded in Germany in 1919 and shut down by the Nazis in 1933, brought together artists, architects and designers in an extraordinary conversation about modern art.

From its inception in 1919, the Bauhaus was a truly international institution.
