From Venice to the world, this special book recounts the prolific and original manufacture of Venini, the glass art company founded 100 years ago in Murano, Venice, by the visionary genius of Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin. Over the course of a century, Venini has pursued the goal of innovation in keeping with tradition: the brand has transformed the ancient art of glassmaking by “intersecting” it with the modern visions of artists and designers. It has gained international fame and become the obsession of collectors all over the world. Venini objects are present in private collections, as well as museums and public institutions.

The book describes the evolution of Venini’s taste, style, and innovation, thanks to the images and stories of key designers and art directors, such as Paolo Venini, Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Tadao Ando, and Ron Arad. The imagery includes about 150 illustrations: photos of glass, archive documents, original drawings, and a photoshoot carried out in the furnace itself. Federica Sala is an independent curator. She edited the book Minimal/Baroque on the Italian artist Gianluca Pacchioni and has authored various publications on the history of Italian design.

Walking surveys the proliferation of pedestrian practices across contemporary art, taking an avowedly political stance on where and how the three practices of art, walking and writing intersect.

Across the world, walking remains a vital way to assert one’s presence in public space and discourse. Foregrounding work by Black artists, Indigenous artists and artists of colour, working-class artists, LGBTQI+ artists, disabled artists and neurodiverse artists, as well as many others, Walking maps the terrain of contemporary walking practices while examining the diverse voices and bodies of those who incorporate walking into their art. This anthology contends that, as a relational practice, walking inevitably touches upon questions of access, public space, land ownership and use; it is therefore always a political act. Although best known as a creator of seminal works of Land art, Walter De Maria also maintained an extensive and highly original practice as a sculptor, painter, draftsman, writer, filmmaker, and composer. This expansive publication presents more than 200 works created or envisioned by the artist from 1960 until his death in 2013. Each work is fully illustrated and accompanied by detailed text entries written by Elizabeth and Michael Childress, supplemented by archival images, many of which have never been published before.

Essays by Michael Govan, Christine Mehring, and Lars Nittve provide detailed overviews and analyses of the early, middle, and later periods of De Maria’s production. The monograph also includes an introduction by Donna De Salvo; the first detailed, thoroughly documented, and illustrated chronology of De Maria’s life and work, written by Dagny Corcoran; and an exhibition history and bibliography.
