ID: 16028
Видавництво: Rizzoli

A dazzling tour of Château de Haroué, the epitome of opulent French style and one of today’s must-see examples of vibrant eighteenth-century architecture and design.

Located in a remote village in the Lorraine region of northeastern France, the estate of Château de Haroué is an unrivaled treasure of Gallic culture and heritage. Built between 1720 and 1729 for Marc de Beauvau, Prince de Beauvau-Craon, constable of Lorraine and viceroy of Tuscany, his descendents have inhabited the castle and kept it going in high style ever since.

Throughout the pages of this volume, readers are invited to discover the château’s impressive architecture and fashionably chic interior design. Newly commissioned photographs by leading interiors photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna alongside archival documents offer unprecedented access to 82 sumptuous rooms, which are enlivened by dynamic tapestries and family portraits, a breathtaking artwork collection, and stately antique furniture. Informative texts by Victoria Botana de Beauvau, one of France’s preeminent modern-day aristocrats and an It girl in Parisian society, paint a picture of the castle’s architectural splendors, lifestyle, notable events, and her family’s unique approach to keeping history alive — all published in an exquisitely crafted book, with creative direction by Peter Copping, worthy of this stunning property.

This intimate tour provides a lesson from Jacques Garcia in the art and technique of historic house and garden restoration.

The Château de Villette, situated in a lush woodland near Paris, has been an oasis of art and beauty since its construction (1663–69), according to François Mansart’s plans, among its prestigious ownerswas Sophie de Grouchy, wife of the Marquis de Condorcet. As leading political actors of their era, she and her husband hosted some of the most intellectually influential salons of the prerevolutionary period for an international elite that included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Paine. The Marquis de Lafayette was a witness at the couple’swedding at Villette in 1786.

New owners have commissioned Jacques Garcia to restore the house and gardens to their idyllic former glory. Presented here for the first time, the result is a veritable museum of French craftsmanship, with interiors featuring fabulous silks and passementeries, as well as eighteenth-century paintings, decorative arts, and furniture. The original stone features and elegant trumeaux and boiseries of the château’s historic dining room have been restored to their initial splendour. Villette’s austerely elegant facade houses an octagonal grand salon that gives way to magical vistas of formal gardens inspired by Le Nôtre, cascading fountains, reflecting pools, and eighteenth-century sculptures, sphinxes, and an obelisk, alluding to classical artistic traditions and eighteenth-century aesthetics. All-new photography, along with drawings by architectural historians Bernd Dams and Andrew Zega, illustrate this lavish volume.

About the Author:

Historian Guillaume Picon wrote several books, including Versailles: A Private Invitation. Bruno Ehrs’s photographs have appeared in many books, including A Day at Château de Vaux le Vicomte. Bernd H. Dams and Andrew Zega create watercolors of historic buildings and garden ornaments.

The longtime Angeleno and celebrated photographer Tim Street-Porter offers this sweeping survey of the best of both historic and contemporary Los Angeles houses that have tremendous resonance for interior design today.

Los Angeles’s Street-Porter has been chronicling this metropolis’s architecture and interiors for over twenty-five years. This stunning collection of inspiring homes begins with a look back, which includes examples of iconic houses inspired by Hollywood film fantasies, Modernist residences by such luminaries as John Lautner, and Frank Gehry’s Deconstructivism-style home. The heart of the book features today’s forward-looking homes, divided into two sections: Living with Art and Design and Los Angeles Modern. Antiquarian Joel Chen artfully blends an eye-catching collection of period furniture and Chinese objets while interior designer Jean-Louis Denoit’s house sparkles with a Tony Duquette gilded mirror and an abalone shell chandelier. Another trend is the renovation of modernist houses with a personal touch. Artist Mary Weatherford’s reworking of her A. Quincy Jones–designed home, in collaboration with designer Oliver Furth, has a striking orange bedroom. Illuminating Los Angeles’s dramatic indoor-outdoor living spaces, this tome is a must-have for architecture and design enthusiasts.

Philip Mitchell and Judith Nasatir, Foreword by Bunny Williams
ID: 16194
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Modern maximalist designer Philip Mitchell reveals his talent for blending collections, family heirlooms, contemporary art, and accessories in visually creative environments that are brimming with personality, color, authenticity, and warmth.

The elegant, clean classicism of Philip Mitchell’s style is on full display in these homes, where he masterfully incorporates a wide-ranging mix of antiques, vintage collectibles, and contemporary pieces — everything from inherited furniture collections to modern art — in rooms that are filled with memories and warmth. As a master of what he calls modern maximalism, Mitchell embraces the challenge of taking wonderful things that a homeowner already has and making more of them. Once Mitchell has established a connecting thread among a variety of disparate pieces — whether through finish, material, scale, color, texture, or line — he starts the process of building the relationships that bring a space to life.

Brilliant photographs take readers on in-depth tours of nine homes, ranging from an elegant Upper East Side pied-à-terre to a classic cottage on the water in Nova Scotia. Mitchell’s personal narrative in elegant text enlightens, while his takeaways accompanying each home help readers understand how to blend new and old, mix colors and patterns, and fill a home with an eclectic mix that is truly their own.
