Written by Margaret Russell and Michael S. Smith, Foreword by Michelle Obama
ID: 13529
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The long-awaited insider's look at one of the design milestones of the twenty-first century: Michael S Smith's celebrated decoration of the Obama White House, featuring a foreword by Michelle Obama.

Created for design enthusiasts, political aficionados, and students of Americana, Designing History documents Michael Smith's extraordinary collaboration with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Not since Jacqueline Kennedy's iconic work on the White House has a designer of Michael Smith's stature been commissioned to bring a new design spirit to the mansion. Through extensive photography, behind-the-scenes stories, and rich archival material, the book places the Obama White House within the context of the building's storied past and its evolution over the past two centuries. The book beautifully documents the process of updating the country's most symbolic residence, revealing how Smith's collaboration on the decoration, showcasing of artworks, and style of entertaining reflected the youthful spirit of the First Family and their vision of a more progressive, inclusive American society.

Ultimately, this book will serve as both a historical document and a voyeur's delight, capturing a specific moment in time for the White House, the Obamas, and the American experience.

Internationally renowned decorator Michael S Smith is a longtime member of the AD100 and was named Designer of the Year by Elle Decor. Stephen Shadley, Patrick Pacheco
ID: 13249
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Stephen Shadley, interior designer to the stars -- from Diane Keaton and Robert Altman to Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Modine, and Ryan Murphy--presents here the first comprehensive volume of his work, which showcases his rare and much-admired ability to set the perfect scene.

Designer extraordinaire Stephen Shadley began his working life as a scenic artist at 20th Century Fox. Throughout a celebrated career (landing a coveted spot on the AD100), his work has been marked continually by the glamour of Hollywood as well as by a kind of visual storytelling that is richly informed by the world of the movie screen and by the artifice and allure of film's great cinematographers. Notable for their expression of an exquisite sense of style, his designed homes -- including the interiors for a classic Beverly Hills abode for Diane Keaton, an apartment for Robert Altman in the legendary Pythian building on New York's Upper West Side, as well as a luxurious contemporary home for Jennifer Aniston -- are all expressions of a masterful sense of scale and an appreciation for understated beauty and refined materials that are ultimately warm, inviting, and serene. The book features numerous beautifully designed homes of Hollywood royalty, primarily in Southern California, though with notable projects in New York and beyond, as well as three green rooms, which Shadley designed for the Oscars and the Emmy Awards.

Maureen Footer, Hamish Bowles

Видавництво: Vendome Press

The first exploration of the two decorators who worked closely with Christian Dior and translated the spirit of the New Look into interior design

Dior and His Decorators is the first work on the two interior designers most closely associated with Christian Dior. Like the unabashedly luxurious fashions of Dior’s New Look, which debuted in 1947, the interior designs of Victor Grandpierre and Georges Geffroy infused a war-weary world with a sumptuous new aesthetic — a melding of the refined traditions of the past with a wholly modern sense of elegance. Author Maureen Footer recounts the lives and work of this influential trio, illustrated with a trove of evocative vintage photographs. Grandpierre designed Dior’s first couture house, creating not only the elegantly restrained look of the salons but also the template for the Dior brand, including typeface, logo, and packaging. Both Grandpierre and Geffroy (who worked independently) designed the interior of Dior’s townhouse. After the couturier’s untimely death in 1957, Grandpierre and Geffroy went on to design salons for other couturiers, as well as homes for the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Marcel Rochas, Gloria Guinness, Daisy Fellowes, and Maria Callas.

About the Author:

Maureen Footer is an interior designer and the author of George Stacey and the Creation of American Chic. Hamish Bowles is the European editor at large for American Vogue.

Emily Summers
ID: 16488

The first book by AD 100 designer Emily Summers, featuring interiors that celebrate a new idea of American modernism.

Weaving mid-century Continental furniture and modern art by the likes of Frank Stella and Jasper Johns into important American homes, Summers has created a vast collection of cohesive, covetable interiors notable for their streamlined beauty. Oberto Gili, Text by Marella Caracciolo Chia
ID: 16332
Видавництво: Rizzoli

An insider’s tour of the most creative and inspiring rooms belonging to tastemakers — artists, interior designers, craftspeople, collectors, and aristocrats — in Italy today. Italy has been a source of inspiration for generations of artists and lovers of beauty. In this book, Italians Oberto Gili and Marella Caracciolo Chia take us around the country and into the homes of some of its most stylish habitués. From rural estates in Tuscany and spectacular seaside villas to an eighteenth-century palace in Puglia and city residences in Turin, Milan, Venice, Rome, and Naples, the properties reveal the unique personal visions of the owners and the inescapable appeal of Italian style. The diversity of places echoes the wide range of geographical contexts. Each interior acts as a source of surprise and an impetus for creativity, reflecting the individual tastes and talents of those who live and have lived there — designer Carlo Mollino, couturier Stephan Janson, art and literary scholar Mario Praz, and artists Sandro Chia and Alessandro Twombly. In addition to the houses of artists and craftspeople, rooms of visionary interior designers, such as Camilla Guinness, Roberto Peregalli, and Laura Sartori Rimini, are also included. This book — an intimate glimpse into some of the most beautiful and inaccessible dwellings in Italy today — is perfect for aesthetically minded readers with an interest in interior design, Italy, and the art of fine living.

Oberto Gili, an Italian photographer based in New York, has contributed to the leading interior design magazines and countless illustrated books. Marella Caracciolo Chia is a Rome-based writer and editor who has written for House & GardenArchitectural Digest, and other design and lifestyle publications.

Combining sustainability with trendsetting design is one of the great challenges of contemporary architecture. In addition to an increased awareness of the interdependence of human beings, their built environment and the eco system, coupled with the desire of maintaining a livable and intact world for future generations and the wish for a healthy residential environment, economic considerations have considerably gained in significance in recent years. The creation of resource saving residential buildings is, therefore, an important and exciting task today.

The project selection of this volume includes more than 120 examples of all types, ranging from single family dwellings via apartment houses to entire estates. Depending on the type of project and its circumstances, a great variety of methods, procedures and techniques are applied. This publication shows the great variety of possibilities offered by established strategies as well as new and experimental approaches and highlights the interaction of an artistic expression and environmentally friendly technology.

Kate Hume, Linda O'Keeffe, Photographs by Frans van der Heijden
ID: 16071
Видавництво: Rizzoli

The first book from celebrated interior and furniture designer Kate Hume.

Kate Hume's passion for interiors stems from her lifelong love affair with color and her respect for anything artisanal. Color, light, and texture inform all of Hume's projects to create a distinctive style that is casually luxurious; bold patterns are expressed in rich, elemental hues. Though color drives her design schemes, it is never dominant. For Hume there is no wrong color, only wrong combinations.

Hume's inimitable approach to design favors tactile materials such as linen, grass cloth, silk, jute, and impeccably sourced homespun fabrics. Unabashedly mixing different furniture genres, Hume prefers vintage over brand-new, considering for instance the best dining tables to look as if they've witnessed countless lunches and dinners. That is why she and her husband and collaborator, Frans van der Heijden, design their own pieces from sandblasted wood and brushed timbers where signs of age already exist. Exquisitely employing beautifully crafted furniture, intriguing objects, engaging color schemes, and seductive, ambient lighting, Hume consistently demonstrates her mastery of eclectic, warm, and sophisticated design.

About the Author:

Linda O'Keeffe has been involved in design for over three decades, including sixteen years as the creative director at Metropolitan Home magazine. She currently contributes to a variety of shelter and architecture publications and is the author of Heart and Home: Rooms That Tell Stories.

This monograph dedicated to the most spectacular example of Parisian First Empire interior architecture retraces the history of the building and the lives of its residents.

The Hôtel de Beauharnais, constructed in 1713, gained renown during the Consulate period. In 1803, Josephine Bonaparte acquired the property for her son, Eugène de Beauharnais, and had the building renovated and decorated at great expense. At the fall of the Napoleonic Empire, it was sold to the King of Prussia and became an embassy during the nineteenth century. With its unique Consulate and Empire décor, the palace is an invaluable specimen of Parisian interior architecture.

The result of more than ten years of research and restoration work, this book recounts three centuries of European political history through the lives of the Hôtel’s successive owners.
