The Peter and Irene Ludwig Collection was one of the first in the world to bring together works of US and Soviet art in the time period when they originated. Occasioned by the 30th anniversary of the opening of the iron curtain, in this book, which accompanies the eponymous exhibition at the Gropius Bau, works contained in the Ludwig Collection from both sides of the East-West conflict are compared for the first time. In this dialogue, it becomes apparent how Cold War era artists responded to the political and aesthetic issues of their age and negotiated concepts of individual and social freedom. Graham Marsh is an art director, illustrator and writer. He is the co-author and art director of many ground-breaking books including The Cover Art of Blue Note Records Volumes 1 and 2, East Coasting and California Cool all published by Collins & Brown.

Glyn Callingham runs the legendary Ray’s Jazz Shop in London. He is co-author of The Cover Art of Blue Note Records Volumes 1 and 2, East Coasting and California Cool. He contributes to several jazz magazines and is a walking encyclopaedia on jazz of the fifties and sixties.

The Crown Jewels tells the history of the spectacular, priceless objects now in the Tower of London. This book is devoted to Albrecht Dürer’s early art and the circumstances of the young painter’s life that enabled his unique work.

Literature about Dürer fills library shelves. Does this mean everything has already been said about the artist? Far from it, according to the scholars at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and their international partners in the Early Dürer Project. Their essays deal with the core phenomena of Dürer’s early work, ranging from the artist’s biography and surroundings to the question of Dürer’s role as the archetype of the modern artist.

Debra N. Mancoff is an art historian and a Scholar-in-Residence at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Her publications include Van Gogh’s Flowers, Monet’s Garden in Art, John Everett Millais: Beyond the Pre- Raphaelite Brotherhood, Flora Symbolica: Flowers in Pre-Raphaelite Art, Danger! Women Artists at Work, Fashion in Impressionist Paris and many other titles on the history of art. She lectures regularly at many of the major museums in the US and Great Britain.
