About the Authors:

The Rolling Stones - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood - have all been interviewed specially for the exhibition and accompanying book. Anthony DeCurtis is an author and music critic. He has written for the New York Times, Relix and Rolling Stone, for which he is a contributing editor.

This visually arresting book is a testament to the unique collaboration, going back three decades, between the photographer and illustrator Matt Mahurin and the musician Tom Waits. Having shot magazine portraits, album covers, and music videos of Waits, Mahurin was inspired to resurrect 100 dormant film negatives as a jumping-off point to explore his own surreal, poetic, and occasion­ally dark vision.

When Ziggy played The Marquee Club in Soho, London, in October 1973, most of those invited to the small venue did not realise that this would be the last performance David Bowie would ever give as Ziggy Stardust. Terry O’Neill, celebrated photographer, was given unprecedented access to document the event.

O’Neill captured Bowie and his crew backstage as they went through costume changes, and Bowie transformed into the character he’d soon put to rest. On stage, dodging television cameras and lights, O’Neill snapped the incredible stage presence for which Bowie and his crew had become renowned. O’Neill remembers of Bowie: “He became a character on stage. As much as a person takes a role in a play for the West End or on Broadway, learning the lines, putting on the costumes – this was, I think, the way Bowie treated his stage. This night at the Marquee, I witnessed a modern-day Hamlet – and it was Ziggy Stardust”.

He has been photographer-of-choice for a multitude of celebrities,ftom Sinatra and Audrey Hepburn to Raquel Welch and Paul Newman, and remains the only photographer to have captured shots not only of every James Bond to date, but also more than 25 Bond girls and a staggering 150 Oscar-nominated actors and actresses. The same thing happened in graphic design. All you needed were a few sheets of Letraset and access to a photocopier, and you could make your own record covers. And lots of people did just that.

A beautifully produced book tracing Bowie's career

David Bowie's career as a pioneering artist spanned nearly 50 years and brought him international acclaim. He continues to be cited as a major influence on contemporary artists and designers working across the creative arts. Evan Auerbach is a globally recognized hip-hop historian. His career as a blogger and archivist has made him the number one source for providing rare hip-hop memorabilia to the masses. A walking encyclopedia of rap knowledge, Evan has played an essential role in revitalizing music media's nostalgia for 90s ephemera and landmark hip-hop events. His website UpNorthTrips continues to be pivotal in sparking a modern wave of obsession with rare photos, classic hip-hop flyers, promo material, and posters. In 2016, Evan co-authored No Sleep: Nightlife Flyers (1988–1999) with Stretch Armstrong.

Daniel Isenberg is a seasoned hip-hop journalist who has written for Complex, Def Jam, Pitchfork, Pigeons & Planes, and XXL, and who created the NahRight Mixtape Memories blog series highlighting legendary mixtape DJs and moments. Isenberg is also an award-winning sports and entertainment marketing creative director, a GRAMMY Award–nominated songwriter, and author of the children’s hip-hop and sports-themed chapter book My Name Is Spit: The Dunk Dance.

The first book on artist, musician, and DJ Eamon Ore-Giron who mines the complex nature of Latinx identity, the history of the Americas, and the many legacies of abstraction in art.  

Over the course of his career, Eamon Ore-Giron has examined the personal and historical ramifications of cultural hybridity. Raised in Tucson, Ore-Giron is inspired by his roots in the American Southwest, his visits to his father’s hometown of Huancayo, Peru, and his time spent as a practicing artist in California and Mexico.
