When Louis Vuitton: The Birth of Modern Luxury was published in 2004, the book was the first to describe the dramatic rise of the world’s finest luxury company. Written with full access to the company’s archives, it demonstrates Louis Vuitton’s passion for fine design with a stunning array of archival art, product designs, and cutting-edge advertising. The company is examined through the lives of its first three leaders - founder Louis (who invented the modern trunk), his son Georges, and his grandson Gaston.

Now with fresh information on subjects such as designs for ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, jewellery, and even automobiles, this new edition includes 20 additional pages and updated material throughout the book, covering the brand’s recent history, with new texts and photographs.

About the Author:

Paul Gerard Pasols is the former director of communications for Louis Vuitton and a longtime consultant to the company. He was editorial director of Louis Vuitton City Guide 2004, New York, which is a finalist in the "best guide" category of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. The author of the updated sections is all at once journalist, traveller, and lover of all things beautiful. Pierre Leonforte has been editor in chief of City Guides Louis Vuitton since their creation in 1998. He collaborates on numerous French and Italian publications including Les Echos, Vogue and Maison Francaise. He is also the author of guidebooks and lifestyle books appearing in France, Germany, and Britain.

He is the author of Abrams's Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks.

Louise Bourgeois, who has produced art since the 1930s, began in the 1990s to use her clothes and the clothes of her loved ones as components in her sculptures and drawings. It is as much a reincarnation of her past and her childhood as a confirmation of her relationship with memory. Her visual approach to fabrics transforms decorative accessories into emotional and personal references which, especially in her Cells and later in her drawings, create representations of a tormented and at the same time powerful womanhood. Further development of the artist’s work began in 2002: exploiting the iridescent colours and formal structural properties of pieces of her clothing, she created “The Fabric Drawings,” astonishing works alternating between floral figurative pieces and chromatic abstractions.

This set of images is collected here in its entirety for the first time, constituting the closest thing yet to a general catalogue.

• This collection of pictorial and sculptural images is brought together in this anthology in a unique and exhaustive way.
• The publication is a means of approaching her distinctive iconographic and visual explosions and adding to our knowledge of the artist herself.
• Bourgeois’s emotional and figurative strength, translated into compositions of colour and form, is further testimony to her important contribution to the history of modern and contemporary art.

Luggala explores "the scandals, intrigues, and heartbreaking beauty of one of Ireland's grandest homes" (Mitchell Owens, Wall Street Journal) that has bewitched the imagination of poets, rock stars, dreamers and the aristocracy alike.

Nestled in a secluded Irish valley, Luggala is an exquisite eighteenth-century house at the centre of a 5,000-acre estate. In 1937 Ernest Guinness presented Luggala to his youngest daughter, Oonagh, who described Luggala as ‘the most decorative honey pot in Ireland’ and made it the centre of a dazzling social world that included painters, poets, scholars and socialites. In the late 1960s she passed the estate to her son, the Hon Garech Browne, who has not only maintained but surpassed his mother’s gifts both for hospitality and for bringing together a wide range of creative talents. Robert O’Byrne recounts this fascinating story, which celebrates both the unique beauty of this place and the many celebrated names irresistibly drawn there, from writers like Robert Lowell, Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes, to actors such as John Hurt and Daniel Day-Lewis, and above all musicians, including Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull, Bono and Michael Jackson. All of them have succumbed to the enchantment of days passed at Luggala.

Dominic Bradbury, Photographs by Richard Powers
ID: 16133
Видавництво: Rizzoli

This book celebrates inventive and inspired homes that are at once original and the product of visionary designers at the height of their powers.

Making House features the houses and apartments of leading interior, furniture, and product designers—homes by designers, as designed for themselves — including the abodes of well-known figures such as Jonathan Adler, Marc Newson, Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci of Dimore Studio, and Stephen Sills.

A great degree of inspiration is to be found among the personal homes and interiors of the masters. Designers, architects, and artists are free to experiment in a way that is unique, without any of the traditional limitations of a client-commissioned project. These are laboratories of invention. They are also private retreats, which offer a range of design solutions for common challenges from which the reader may glean new ideas and the motivation to make such ideas real.

Beautifully illustrated, this volume is at once a document and a celebration of some of the most inspiring homes from around the world and the creative minds and personalities behind them, photographed specifically for this book.

About the Author:

Writer and journalist Dominic Bradbury and photographer Richard Powers have produced more than twenty books on design, architecture, and interiors between them. Among their most successful books are The Iconic House and its successor, The Iconic Interior.

Edited by Michael Boyd, Photographs by Richard Powers, Foreword by Ray Kappe
ID: 16196
Видавництво: Rizzoli

This is the definitive volume on Craig Ellwood, a visionary architect, designer, and tastemaker often called the “California Mies van der Rohe.”

Craig Ellwood, “the Cary Grant of architecture,” was one of the most visible faces of California mid-century modernism. He was known as much for his exquisitely designed, minimalist structures as he was for his exuberant lifestyle.

This book celebrates and explores the glamour of Ellwood’s work, life, myth, and career. Through photographs, primarily of the iconic houses he designed in Southern California during the 1950s and ’60s, we see a life of refined decadence, expressed through gorgeous architecture, fast cars, beautiful women, Hollywood style, palm trees, swimming pools, and minimalist design — all in the context of the Southern California postwar building boom.

This volume will appeal to design junkies, architecture buffs, students of modernism, and anyone interested in problem-solving and elegant solutions.

About the Author:

Michael Boyd, a designer based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, is a renowned and published expert on twentieth-century design and postwar modernism. Richard Powers is a widely published photographer whose books include Rizzoli’s Making House. Ray Kappe is an internationally recognized architect, urban planner, and educator and is a cofounder of SCI-Arc in Los Angeles.

What do you picture when you think of New York City? For most, it is the city's distinctive skyline, made famous by countless movies and photographs.

Everyone in Manhattan, whether first-time visitor or longtime resident, experiences the awe of gazing up at the soaring stone, steel, and glass towers of Wall Street or Midtown, and wonders how those structures came to be built.

First published in 1999, Manhattan Skyscrapers was the first book to document the most important peaks in the city's concrete canyons. From the earliest skyscrapers built in the city - such as the 1896 American Tract Society Building - to the most well known, including the Woolworth, Empire State, and Chrysler buildings, the book has become the definitive reference work on the Big Apple's skyline.

Now available in a revised third edition, Manhattan Skyscrapers presents more than a century's worth of New York's most fascinating and important buildings. Each skyscraper is presented with informative and entertaining texts by New York Times contributor Eric Nash, a striking full-page photograph by architectural photographer Norman McGrath, archival images, interior views, and architectural drawings.

In addition to the eighty-five buildings documented in previous versions of the book, Manhattan Skyscrapers showcases eight of the most exciting new skyscrapers built in the past few years.

These wonderfully diverse additions to the city - the New York Times Building by Renzo Piano, the Standard Hotel by Polshek Partnership Architects, 7 World Trade Center by SOM, the Blue Tower by Bernard Tschumi, Bank of America Tower by Cook + Fox, 11 Times Square by FXFOWLE, 200 West Street by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, and 425 Fifth Avenue by Michael Graves - give an indication of how the city continues to evolve in the twenty-first century.

Manhattan Skyscrapers is an indispensable book for both the serious student of architecture and the casual collector of all things New York.

On September 12, 1609, Henry Hudson first set foot on the land that would become Manhattan. Today, it’s difficult to imagine what he saw, but for more than a decade, landscape ecologist Eric Sanderson has been working to do just that.

Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City is the astounding result of those efforts, reconstructing in words and images the wild island that millions now call home. By geographically matching an 18th-century map with one of the modern city, examining volumes of historic documents, and collecting and analyzing scientific data, Sanderson re-creates the forests of Times Square, the meadows of Harlem, and the wetlands of downtown. His lively text guides readers through this abundant landscape, while breathtaking illustrations transport them back in time.

Mannahatta is a groundbreaking work that provides not only a window into the past, but also inspiration for the future.

About the Author:

Eric W. Sanderson is a senior conservation ecologist in the Global Conservation Programs of the Wildlife Conservation Society. He is adjunct faculty member at Columbia University and New York University and has lectured at Princeton, Harvard, and Oxford universities, and at TED.
