Magical images that defy time from the grand master of conceptual photography.

Through his expansive exploration of the possibilities of still images, the internationally renowned artist and photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has created some of the most alluringly enigmatic photographs of our time; pictures that are meticulously crafted and deeply thought-provoking, familiar yet tantalisingly ambiguous.

Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine is a comprehensive survey of work produced over the past five decades, featuring selections from all of Sugimoto's major photographic series, as well as lesser-known works that illuminate his innovative, conceptually-driven approach to making pictures. Texts by a collection of international writers, artists and scholars - including Geoffrey Batchen, Edmund de Waal, Mami Kataoka, Ralph Rugoff, Lara Strongman and Margaret Wertheim - will highlight his work's philosophical yet playful inquiry into the nature of representation and art, our understanding of time and memory, and the paradoxical character of photography as a medium suited to both documenting and invention.

About the Author:

The enigmatic works of Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto (*1948, Tokyo) fundamentally questioned the understanding of photography. He studied sociology and politics in Tokyo, before moving to Los Angeles to study photography in the early 1970s. In 1974 he settled in New York, where he created his first series Dioramas. His main artistic interests include architecture, abstract forms and intangible phenomena.

Peter Feierabend, Sascha Numßen

Видавництво: teNeues

The first illustrated book that comprehensively illuminates the subject of hunting.

The perfect gift – for young hunters, veteran hunters and interested non-hunters, because here everyone learns something new!
With topics, which are to be found otherwise in no illustrated book: hunting in the art, hunt ethics and celebrities, which are connected with the hunt
The coffee table book by Peter Feierabend and Sascha Numßen from the Ultimate series delves into one of humanity's oldest activities: hunting. Hunting - The Ultimate Book sheds light on hunting from all angles for the first time.

Feierabend and Numßen comprehensively explore the various aspects closely related to hunting in an impressive and holistic manner. Richly illustrated and accompanied by informative texts, they introduce the evolution of hunting attire, the different hunting weapons, and wildlife. They also guide readers through the grandest social hunting events that frame hunting as a pastime in high society.

Furthermore, the two authors focus on the animal companions of hunters. Highly sensitive tracking dogs, trained birds of prey, and noble hunting horses are introduced in this in-depth photo book. Of course, hunting techniques, trophies, and the art associated with hunting are also featured in this impressive work.

But, in addition to hunting techniques and methods, the authors also aim to depict the transformation that hunting has undergone in recent years. In times of an increasingly critical society, hunting can no longer be simply justified by tradition alone. Therefore, Feierabend and Numßen have given topics like animal protection and conservation a special place in this high-calibre and informative work, viewing them as an initiative motivation for hunting.

For anyone wanting to learn more about equipment, wildlife, weapons, and the social background of hunting, this book is the perfect coffee table book.

Text in English and German.

About the Author:

On almost every bookshelf, designer, editor, and author Peter Feierabend will find one of the approximately 3,000 book titles he has worked on, and it's far from Feierabend's end. Born in Hanover, he has lived in Cologne for 25 years after studying design at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
Sascha Numßen (52) studied forestry in Munich. His studies were immediately followed by a traineeship at a publishing house. After taking over as an editor at the hunting magazine Wild und Hund and several years as editor-in-chief at the international gun magazine VISIER, his path led him to the marketing department of the hunting gun manufacturer J.P. Sauer & Sohn in the Allgäu for three years before he occupied the editor-in-chief's chair at the magazine PIRSCH in Munich for over nine years. By setting up the Southwest Editorial Office, Numßen was able to hang up his career and finally "get back on the road" to find good stories for the magazine. Since July 2023, he has been living and hunting with his wife Julia and his Magyar Vizsla dog "Piroschka" at beautiful Lake Balaton in Hungary.

A celebration of the fashion missteps of otherwise stylish individuals — from celebrities and fashion and media insiders to regular humans

In everyone’s closet, there is one article of clothing that truly demonstrates a momentary lapse in fashion judgment. I Actually Wore This is the first book to celebrate these fashion blunders and lets us in on how and why they happened: the purple velour jumpsuit that was supposed to make you look dangerous, the Baron von Trapp–ish Tyrolean jacket that seemed like a good idea after six beers in Munich, and the cocktail napkin–sized swimsuit. Each of these cringe-inducing items somehow managed to find its way into the wardrobe of a typically fashionable person, and the authors are here to tell you how that happened.

In I Actually Wore This, otherwise stylish individuals, from Bergdorf Goodman’s fashion director to actress and SNL alum Molly Shannon, choose the one item from their closet that best illustrates when taste took a holiday, allow themselves to be photographed in it, and tell the story of how, where, and why they bought this article of clothing that makes them mutter "what was I thinking?" each time they see it.

About the Authors:

Tom Coleman is an Emmy-nominated writer and filmmaker who has worked with MTVEsquire, and McSweeney’s, among other firms.

Jerome Jakubiec is a fashion, portrait, and celebrity photographer whose work has been published in magazines worldwide.

An epic visual story of wildlife photography's pioneers and world firsts. From some of the very first pictures of wild lions and tigers on record and the first-ever underwater colour photograph, right up to the spectacular images from the wildest corners of the earth that modern-day technology allows, Into the Wild is an extraordinary collection of over 250 images and 150 years of our efforts to document the natural world. Now, more than ever, these are the photographs and stories that matter.

"Gemma Padley takes us on a fascinating journey through 150 years of the wildlife photography that has informed and delighted us. The text tells us not only about the images themselves, but describes how cameras gradually got faster shutter speeds, longer lenses, greater resolution and are now mostly digital. But it is the patience and endurance of the photographer who waits for hours or even days in tropical heat or arctic freeze to capture these special shots: taken at just the right moment in just the right light and from just the right angle. Into the Wild is a must-have coffee table book."
