About the Authors:

Uli Weber studied at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Rome for two years and then worked as an assistant in London for four years. In 1990 he became a professional photographer. His first cover shot was for iconic style magazine, Arena, and featured Sting wrapped in a vivid red fake fur coat. Other prestigious commissions quickly followed from Marie Claire, Elle or Vogue. Uli was elected a Hasselblad Master in 2006.

Christer Strömholm (1918-2002) is considered to be one of the most important Swedish photographers of our time. He spent most of his life in Sweden but early on made France his second home. He founded the legendary photography school Fotoskolan in Stockholm in 1962 and inspired an entire generation of photographers.

His first book, Poste Restante, made him a renowned photographer and his depiction of transsexuals in the Paris of the 1960s resulted in Vännerna från Place Blanche (The Friends from Place Blanche). His images from travels in Japan, Spain and the United States have won wide acclaim and he is represented in several of the worlds leading museums.

Christer Strömholm was appointed professor of photography by the Swedish government and was honoured with the prestigious Hasselblad Award in 1997.

The volume collects a rich selection of photographs from the archives of the Magnum Photos agency, taken by Robert Capa, in a combination of emblematic shots of his work and images that have appeared more rarely.

The intent is to hint at some facets of a passionate and ultimately elusive character as Capa was: a courageous witness of his time, a strong, insatiable and at the same time dissatisfied personality, with the traits of a gambler. Therefore, not only the war images that made him one of the most famous photojournalists of the 20th century, but also lesser-known shots that allow you to appreciate the very high formal quality of his photography and, together with it, his personality.

About the Authors:

Robert Frank (born in Zurich, 1924; died in Nova Scotia, 2019) was a Swiss American photographer and documentary filmmaker. He is best known for his seminal book The Americans, first published in 1958, which gave rise to a distinct new art form in the photobook, and his experimental film Pull My Daisy, made in 1959. His other important projects include the books The Lines of my Hand (1972) and Black White and Things (1954), and the films Cocksucker Blues (1972) and Me and My Brother (1968).

Jack Kerouac (born in Lowell, Massachusetts, 1922; died in St. Petersburg, Florida, 1969) was an American novelist, writer, poet, and artist, best known for his novel, On the Road. He was one of the pioneers of the Beat Generation in the 1950s.

The series Mi Sangre by Roj Rodriguez started as a photo documentation of a personal journey to retrace his Mexican heritage and has evolved into a fine art project aimed at highlighting Mexican culture on both sides of the US–Mexico border. Everyday aspects of Mexican life as well as its culture and popular iconography are documented here. Both in terms of how they exist in Mexico and how Mexican Americans in the US reinterpret them. Ryan McGinley, since the earliest days of his unparalleled career, has chronicled his friends and cohorts. Whether on the now legendary annual road trips he has organized with a large coterie of twentysomethings documenting summertime exploits or documenting the early gritty years in downtown New York, McGinley is known as the consummate storyteller about freedom and abandon of youth. A few years ago, however, he wanted to challenge his creative habits and asked more than one hundred of his friends and colleagues -- guided by detailed instructions and a camera given to them by the artist--to take nude self-portraits using mirrors and other props. Though related to the ubiquitous selfie, the participants didn't have the benefit of seeing the image before they clicked the shutter. Furthermore, McGinley would make the selection of the final image to represent the photo session. About the Author:

Ryan McGinley is a New York-based artist who was raised in New Jersey. After moving to the city, he began extensively photographing in the East Village. At the age of twenty-five, he became the youngest artist to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Over the last ten years, McGinley has traveled continuously throughout the United States to create work that incorporates nude figures active within the American landscape. McGinley frequently has solo gallery and museum exhibitions around the world. His work is included in the prestigious collections of The Solomon R.
